Hello, it's Mike Raub. Welcome to The Point, where all parts of pop culture come together. You know her from Jenny Craig, from episodes of The Big Bang Theory, and so much more. She's Sarah Rue, and she's here to talk about the next big step in her career and her life. And if you love the DC Universe game, wait till you see what Marvel has in mind for you.
It's Monday, May the 2nd. Let's get to The Point right now. This is The Point, The Point radio, get The Point, baby I can't believe it. How many ways to stand like you? She's a beautiful and familiar face on TV the past few years.
She's Sarah Rue, who now managed to land herself a part in the final few episodes this season of Rules of Engagement, a series where she seems to fit in just fine. It's pretty on target, I would say. You know, it's fun for me because I feel like I always, a lot of the time I play like a sweet, really nice bubbly one. So it's fun to come in.
Brenda's got sort of like a sarcastic kind of biting edge tour, which I really like. So I feel like it's kind of right in line. I mean, I was a fan of the show before I was on it. So it's definitely something I watched and now being a part of it, it's sort of right in line with my sense of humor and what I find funny. And I think that's maybe why the show has worked so well.
I feel like everybody in the cast and the writers, everyone has a very sort of, I mean, like everything, they have a similar sense of humor. Like they find the same things funny. And that's why I think it works because they're all on the same page. And, you know, I hope I, I mean, I find the same things funny too.
So I hope I sort of fit in with that group. Sarah's worked with Siri star Patrick Warburton in the past and that just makes things that much easier. Well, it's great because they've written, I mean, and smartly so, I think, you know, when the character is introduced as his buddy, you know, and they're alike in a lot of ways. They're both very dry. They're both pretty deadpan and it's sort of fun to have that back and forth.
And I think, you know, Patrick and I have known each other for years. We did another show together years ago. So, you know, we just, we know each other really well. And I think I know his rhythm really well. And so it was fun coming in and being able to be like, okay, well, if this is like one of his best friends,
I think they'd be on par with one another in terms for the back and forth. And I like that she sort of doesn't back down to him and she's, you know, tough. And I think it's been, it's been kind of a nice, it's fun. It's a nice fit for me. I was able to sort of slide right in because like I said, I've watched the show and going Patrick as well as I do sort of like an easy sort of transition for me to come on in and sort of hold my own with him.
Between rules, a little reality TV and those Jenny Craig ads, there's a lot going on in Sarah's life, but the top of the list is a wedding that's coming up pretty soon. Is she just a little crazy about that? We're having a very small thing in Malibu and we're, you know, we're halfway there. I'm starting to freak out. I'm not going to lie to you. I've been very, I'm starting to freak out. Actually, the story Megan, I said to her one day on rules that we were in the middle of, I think we were shooting something.
And I was like, Megan, where would you go if you were to get trying to get it like a cute flower girl dress because Megan has a daughter. And I was like, she'll know where to go to get a cute flower girl dress. And Megan was like, my closet? So I was borrowing Megan's daughter's flower girl dress for my flower girl. But, you know, details are it's stuff like that that will drive you crazy. It's like, where do I find a flower girl dress? And then all of a sudden, you know, you feel like your life is spinning out of control because you can't find the right shade of, you know, off white.
It's a little bit crazy, but I think everything at this point is coming together. My dress is en route from New York. It's somewhere between New York and here. So hopefully it will show up soon. And I think as soon as it lands or arrives at my door, I'll feel a little bit more relaxed. Catch Sarah right now on Rules of Engagement Thursdays on CBS and past episodes on CBS.com. It's Monday, May 2nd, 2011. Here's what's going on in pop culture.
Most fans I know are of two minds, especially when it comes to watching trailers of upcoming fantasy movies. Well, for example, do you want to see more trailers, more footage from Thor before it opens in a few days? Or do you simply just want to be surprised when you go into theater? Well, if you're among the people who want to see more, there's a great new Japanese trailer that's out. If you don't mind the subtitles, there's all sorts of new footage in there.
And it's actually paced a little better than most of the American ones so far. We've got it up for you on our website, GetThePointRadio.com. Check it out. Let us know what you think with a comment. Either to us at ListenToGetThePointRadio.com. Or of course, you can leave a comment on ComicMix for us anytime.
Whether or not you're a fan of The Office, more than likely you've encountered those famous words, that's what she said. And now as Steve Carell, as Michael Scott, begins his farewell on the NBC hit comedy, is a compilation of all those moments put together at FunnyOrDie.com. It's worth about four and a half minutes of your time, especially if you've ever seen an episode in The Office.
Check it out again. It is under, that's what she said, of course, at FunnyOrDie.com. Truneries were Chuck Lorre, co-creator of CBS's Two and a Half Men, has developed a new version of the show for the network. It gives it a fresh creative direction without Charlie Sheen, of course, with John Cryer and with a new cast made as yet unnamed. CBS and the show's production company is aware of the plans.
They've not made a decision about how they're going to go forward for this, for a ninth season of what would be Two and a Half Men. The writing credit dispute over X-Men First Class seems to have been taken care of due to the Writers Guild arbitration, which held up the WGA decision that Ashley Miller and Zach Steins, as well as Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn, all get screenplay credits on X-Men First Class when it opens up.
Now, in addition, Sheldon Turner, who actually wrote an origin film about Magneto, and Bryan Singer, of course, who wrote an outline for the film at the beginning, back when he was involved with the X-Projects, will also get story credit. They'll all appear on screen when the film does as well, coming to theaters on June 3rd. Looks like you might actually get to see Joss Whedon's long-awaited cabin in the woods.
It's been on the shelf for a while, but now Lionsgate's making a deal with MGM to make that not the case. The Whedon name should carry it through, as well, of course, as the writer Drew Goddard from Cloverfield, who also directed the film and co-wrote it with Joss. And then again, there's also Chris Hemsworth, you know him as Thor, also in the film as well. Right now, they're looking to make that deal to get the cabin in the woods in theaters later this year,
more than likely in October. Some new facts were revealed about the Marvel massive multiplayer online game, which by the way, the biggest of is that it will be free to play when it gets up online. Another interesting point is that one of the writers involved is a name you're familiar with, Brian Michael Bendis.
In contrast to the DC Universe game, which does charge the free play, should get a lot of people interested in playing the Marvel game. But how they're going to deal with the fact that most of the major Marvel characters are there, and everyone's going to want to play the big ones. Everyone wants to be Wolverine, who really wants to be, well, Speedball.
Nonetheless, developers say they have that all under control with all the major characters, including some of Bendis' favorites, some of his new Avengers cast. Yes, that includes Squirrel Girl as well, being involved in the game. Look for more notices coming soon, and your chance to play online free coming up very quickly. Get used to lots of Marvel publicity over the next week or so, all for Thor,
and of course Captain America, not far behind that, and X-Men first class as well. To kick off the week, Marvel Entertainment and Thor himself rang the closing bell for the New York Stock Exchange, all in celebration of Thor, of course. If you didn't catch it live, well, you can see a webcast recording of that at newyorkstockexchange.com and yse.com is how you go there.
Here's an amazing act. Here's a tremendous act. Here's a startling act. The amazing, the thrilling, the greatest, spectacular, incredible, exciting, wonderful, world-famous, most unusual novelty act. I know nothing, nothing. This is Mike Gold. Did you go to college? Did it do you any good?
I mean, you know, other than earning you a huge debt load. The folks at the Daily Beast compiled a list of the most useless college degrees, and according to those folks, horticulture, agriculture, advertising, fashion design, child and family studies, music, mechanical engineering technology, chemistry, and nutrition topped the list from two to ten. So what's number one? What's the most
absolutely useless degree you can possess? Number one with a bullet is journalism. Average starting pay is 35.8, the median mid-career pay is 66.6, and between 2008 and 2018, there is an anticipated loss of 6 and 1 third percent jobs in the field. Yet during the 2008-2009 school year, our journalism school spat out over 78,000 sheepskin-carrying wannabes. Did I mention I went to J-School? This is Mike
Gold on America's true pop culture channel. GetThePointRadio.com. Blink and you'll miss our quick list of the five things you need to check out in the comic stores this week. First, a quick stop at the DC area for the second issue of Bad Woman. It's taken a while to get this far, but it's well worth it. More than likely you could pick up that previous issue and also the zero one as well in some pretty good or another. DC's attempted to bring this character
back after a lot of people have been asking for it. It's been slow in coming, but we're finally to a second issue. Also this week, another movie tie-in, so to speak, Green Lantern, super spectacular number one, has really nothing to do with the movie but some great stories in a collection there. From Image this week, they're doing their first program where they take a classic image comic and bring it back for a dollar so you can see what you've been missing and maybe go back and check
them out. This time it's Phonogram, a really good series and you can catch the first issue for only a buck. First issue from Marvel this week includes Moon Knight back again for a new series, worth checking out and also a little heavy on the wallet but still well worth it. A beautiful collection of X-Men stories. X-Men followed the mutants all in a hardcover collection this week for Marvel. Grab them at comic stores near you and check those out with the comic book locator
service. You can call toll free to find the one in your area. 1-888-COMIC-BOOK. Better than that, arm yourself with a free app that's available right now in the iTunes App Store.
