When young Orville-nicknamed “Hope”-moves from the hills of Jamaica to the bustling streets of New York, everything changes. Gone are the mango trees, the laughter of his siblings on the farm, and the warm embrace of home. In their place: snow, strange accents, and teasing classmates who call him “the boy from the banana boat.”

But when a kickball gets stuck high in a tree during recess, Hope’s island-born courage and climbing skills turn him from outsider to hero.

Told with warmth, humor, and nostalgia, The Boy Who Saved Recess is a heartwarming coming-of-age story about family, identity, and the bravery it takes to belong-no matter where you come from.

Perfect for young readers who enjoy inspiring true stories, multicultural tales, or childhood adventures filled with heart.
