Hello, it's Mike Raub. Welcome to Comic-Con 2013. It starts in a couple of days. We've got your preview about the things you might not know about. Of course, there's all the big comics and all the big movies, but what about the other

cool stuff that you might just pass by? Settle in for our Comic-Con preview and then get ready to pack your bags, because we're heading to San Diego. But first, let's get to the point. This is the point, the point radio, get the point radio.

It's alive! Comic-Con starts here on your pop culture channel, The Point. Well, it is about comics, and comics certainly deserve to be celebrated again this year at Comic-Con. All the major publishers will be present, Marvel, DC, and of course, the ones just under

that list, including IDWs, have a pretty good year so far, and with the stuff they're showing this year at San Diego, looks like they got some big plans for 2014 as well. There'll be lots of different folks available at their booth, including James O'Barr, creator of The Crow and director of the upcoming Crow movie, Javier Gutierrez. IDW also plans a couple of special projects to be revealed sometime during the show, including

one by Walt Simonson and another by Taryn Killiam from Saturday Night Live, working with Mark Andraco on something we'll find out about in a few days. X-Files is celebrated with a special appearance by Chris Carter and Gillian Anderson, and there's lots more too, including some exclusive books you can pick up as well. All of the IDW booth, if you're on the floor, it is booth number 2643.

Of course, plenty of movie stuff going on at Comic-Con this year, but also some interesting looks at what happens behind the cameras. The Art Directors Guild has three different programs during the show, including the art of collaboration and the collaboration of artists to feature film art department, motion picture and television illustrators of The Art Directors Guild, and film production and

designers of the TV world with The Art Directors Guild as well. There are folks at these panels from things like Mission Impossible, Man of Steel, Oz the Great and Powerful, Avatar, and a lot more. Set designers, model makers, and special effects artists all to reveal what they're doing and the show some interesting footage that you may not have seen before from some of these

major films. There will be programs on Friday and on Saturday as well. If you're at the show, check the program book for the time. They'll be taking place in room 24 A, B, and C. Ever thought about writing a comic book?

Well, if you have, there's a competition that's opening up at Comic-Con that could get you involved in the business. It's done by the Wright Brothers, and they're partnering with UCreate Comics for the become extraordinary comic book writing competition. If you enter, you'll compete for a chance to write a one-shot comic book that'll be

illustrated and distributed by the folks at UCreate Comics. There's even more. There's a $1,000 grand prize and a whole ton of writing software from Wright Brothers valued at almost $750 as well. And you get a 20% royalty on the comic book that you write and a one-year freelancer membership

with UCreate Comics as well. Runner-ups also get software packages too. You can get more information on the Comic-Con floor at their booth, which is $14.29, or you can go to the website, ucreatecomics.com. One of the most beloved franchises in fantasy will be showcased heavily this year at Comic-Con.

Robotech is back. All the celebrations release of a big double DVD that features a never-before-seen film, Love Live Alive, and the classic hit, The Shadow Chronicles 2, with lots of extras too in the set as well. A special event will be Thursday.

It'll run from 8.15 to 9.15 in room 6 D&E. However, we can all grab the DVD. That'll be available in stores and on Amazon coming up on the 23rd. It's about time this happens. Somebody made a video game about Comic-Con.

It's one you can play if you're at the show or even if you're not. It's available for the iPhone and the iPad. It's a 2D runner game. It's available for the iOS. Done by the folks at Devastator, the Comic Print Magazine.

It's called Comic-Con Star Stalker. Look it up in the iTunes App Store as well. It should give you a lot of things to do if you're waiting in line at the show or if you're not going to Comic-Con but want a little piece of the fun on your own. If you're at the floor, you can visit booth F03, which is in aisle 800 to see more about

the game. Or if you want to play again, you can pick it up right now for the iPhone or the iPad. From the App Store, just look under Comic-Con Star Stalker. Joe Madelena, star of the Sci-Fi show Hollywood Treasures, is at the show again this year at his Hollywood Profiles in History booth.

It's number 1605. There's a lot of great things on display that Joe's going to be offering for auction suit, including the Rorschach Comedian and Night Owl costumes from Watchmen. Christopher Reeve's Superman suit from Superman 3 and George Clooney's Batman costume as well.

You'll see these in person if you want to, and you can do so at the show at his booth. Or if you've got some spare cash you're looking to spend, the Profiles in History Hollywood auction will take place the 28th to the 30th in Los Angeles with these and a lot more rare items all up for auction. Folks at Cartoon Network are hoping to make your Comic-Con experience a little more fun

with Adventure Time Conquest, which basically is a scavenger hunt game that they're running at the show. It begins, of course, at their booth, which is number 3735, and then they give you a list of other places to go to go around and get some different things and to win the final prize.

If you'd like more information, you certainly can stop by the booth. Again, it's all from Cartoon Network and the Adventure Time show where there's a lot of those creators on hand and a few panels too as well to look up. That's booth number 3735. If you've got some extra wall space at home and you're looking to fill it, Comic-Con is

a place to do that. Bondo is on hand again this year with some beautiful new prints, including three great pieces of monster artwork from the Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures film, Pacific Rim, as well as some other things as well. The Pacific Rim prints are absolutely beautiful and they come in a regular or a variant, and

prices are pretty inexpensive, running from $45 for the regular to about $75 for a variant as well. There's also material from Dark Tower, Conan, and a lot more available from these folks and they're all on display at their booth and on sale too as well so you can walk away with exactly what you want from Bondo.

Seema booth 936. You've got a great idea. Maybe you've even written your book, but now what do you do? Well, you can get it published and get paid too in the way to start. Maybe you have a particular panelist taking place at Comic-Con called Geeks Get Published

and Paid. It takes place on Thursday at about 4.30 p.m. in room 26A and B. It gives you an idea about whether or not to find an agent. Do you need to be your own publicist and what the differences are between vanity publishing and print publishing as well?

Lots of questions and hopefully lots of answers for you too as well and again it's at 4.30 on Thursday in room 26A and B. It's a combination of Comic-Con fun and Choose Your Own Adventure. It's the mechanic which is a new comedy adventure series available for smartphones and tablets and will be released at Comic-Con as well. It's from the folks at Movie Maze and it's an app that lets you watch a sequence and

then select from a series of choices to advance the storyline as well. It's not in the style too of some of the great games of the 80s as well. Now Movie Maze won't be available until September, but you can get a preview at Comic-Con as well. Movie Maze has a booth on the floor at number 5535.

He was one of the great talents of the underground comics era back in the 70s. His name is Robert Williams, but you might know him a little more as Mr. Bitchin. And there's also a documentary on Robert's work as well. You can meet him, maybe get a copy of the documentary or even get a print signed as well.

He'll be at the Gentle Giant booth number 3513 daily during the show, Thursday through Sunday, so stop by when you're on the floor. The folks at Geek Ed celebrating Geeks in Education make their third appearance at Comic-Con this year, talking about the intersection of geek culture and education as well. And they have some educators who will sit down and talk about how when geek culture

intersects education expands. There's a lot more to hear as well. It's in a special program that will take place in room nine Friday at 8pm at Comic-Con. That does it for our little Comic-Con free view. We're back at the end of the week and we'll take time from walking to Florida to talk

to you about the cast of The Conjuring that opens in theaters this weekend. Plus we'll let you know exactly what's happening and what the big news is so far from the show.
