Broadcast to 93. ComicMix.com Good news for me, one of my favorites is back. ComicMix 3.0 Hi, it's Mike Raub. I've got a feeling this is one of your favorites as well.
The Comic 3 Geeks. And there's a whole new bunch of things on the way. Gonna talk to the creator and give you the very latest coming up on… November 29th. 2008. ComicMix News. As we've said a number of times, the things that are going on in the Superman books,
compliments of Geoff Johns, are gonna have some long-standing effects on exactly where the Man of Steel will be for the next few years in the DC Universe. And now there's gonna be a definitive guide to that with Superman, The Secret Origin. It'll be written by Johns, drawn by Gary Frank. It'll be six issues coming in 2009. It'll redefine Superman in the new post-infinite crisis world.
And, by the way, bring back Superboy. No, not the clone. And no, not the one from Earth Prime. But at least at this particular point in time, it looks like the Legend of Superman will now be re-fitted to contain a period of time where he actually was Superboy. Not much else is known at this point. However, if you dig around on the web this weekend,
you'll see some of the preview covers for that upcoming miniseries. Luke Skywalker's lightsaber, Indiana Jones hat and whip, and a lot more are all up for grabs as part of the Profiles in History Hollywood auction. You may have heard about this. It's coming up December the 11th at the company's headquarters in Calabasas, California. If you can get yourself out there, you might be able to pick up the lightsaber, for example.
They're looking to get at least 150 grand for that. Other things in the auction include Batman's cape and cowl from Batman Begins, C-3PO's helmet, a complete set of Harry Potter books signed by J.K. Rowling, a three-volume collection of Lord of the Rings signed by J.R. Tolkien, and Arnold Schwarzenegger's costume from Terminator 2.
If you'd like, though, just to win the shop over the weekend, check it out at profilesinhistory.com. According to TVguide.com, it looks like NBC is still on the fence about the future of heroes. Right now, it looks like they're planning to not air episodes of Heroes, or Chuck, by the way. Anytime in January, the earliest we'll see new episodes after next week will be in February as well. Right now, there's still no definite confirmation that Brian Fuller from Pushing Daisies will return to Heroes,
even though it is pretty strongly rumored that that's true on the web. And as you know, Fuller was a writer on the series during the first season. At Neil Adams took a list of guests of honor at the New York Comic Con in February. He's going to be there, and he'll be doing the artwork that'll be seen most around to promote the convention over the next few weeks. Adams joins a lot of other people, including George Perez, Geoff Johns, and Jim Lee of the convention,
which takes place in February in New York City. It may be the best-selling comic book you've never read, but you probably should pay attention to this, because I get the feeling you're going to hear more about it. It's the Kuwaiti-based comic The 99, published by Tishkeel Media. It's a superhero comic, very popular in the Middle East and South Asia.
The book is targeted to his law-maker readers who really don't have their own comics, and pretty much have only had access to Western or Japanese comics over the past few years. The 99 is a group of young superheroes from all over the world, each possessing one of the famous 99 attributes that are cited in the Koran. Now, there's a lot of artists from Marvel and DC who have worked there over the past few years that are helping to produce this.
The Wall Street Journal, by the way, says that the book is selling more than a million copies per year, and there's a theme park and other tie-ins, including one with Nestle's chocolate, planned in the near future. However, the biggest news is that a Dutch company is creating a series of 30-minute animated TV shows based on the comic, and those should appear around the world sometime mid-to-late 2009. If you've caught any of the Planet of the Apes movies this weekend on Fox, well, you've probably heard that rumor.
It's going all over the Internet today. There may be a new Apes movie. This time it'll be a prequel to the originals. It'll be called, alternatively, Genesis Apes. It's set in modern times, Earth 2009, and there's no real word on when and if it'll go into production. Hi, I'm Peter David from the Dark Tower, and this is ComicMix. ComicMix Radio.
Basically, he was a geek, sir. One of the nice things about the comic business is, no matter how long you've been hanging around, it's always fun to meet somebody who's work you've admired for a long time, but never had a chance to reach out and shake their hand. For me, in recent weeks, it was Rich Kozlowski, who you may know from a number of places. Among other things, I've done graphic novels The King, Three Fingers, and the series of Three Geeks.
Three Geeks has always been a favorite comic of mine. It's been a series of one-shots and little miniseries over the past few years. But for the past 12 months or so, the strip has been a little dormant. I was really excited to find out that Rich had published a new one-shot a few months back, just in time for the Baltimore Comic Con. Yeah, I'm friends with some of the CGC guys, and for years I said, I had a story idea with the Three Geeks and the whole phenomenon of getting your books graded.
And finally, when this show was two months out, Mark Nathan called me and said, can you make the show? Long story short, I had that foot surgery we were talking about earlier, so I didn't think I'd make it, but he said, we'll do an exclusive if you've got any stories lying around. You think you can get done in time? We'll do a Baltimore Comic Con exclusive. And I had this story patched already for a couple years. I actually had like 11 pages penciled, so I told him, yeah, I do have a story, yeah, I'm going to get it done.
It was a good reason to get that story finally finished. And the good thing from all this, there'll be more geeks on the way. I think I'm going to, right now, not a permanent schedule, like a bi-monthly or anything, but I think I'm going to do a mini-series, series of mini-series. That seems to be the best way to go right now. Not one to be boxed in with one thing, which has a lot of other plans for the new year.
I have my third graphic novel with Top Shelf Productions coming out in 2009. I did the illustrations on that, and the writer is named JD Arnold, newcomer to the industry. It's a wonderful book called BB Wolf and the 3 LPs. It's retelling of the whole Big Bad Wolf 3 Little Pigs story. So that'll be out in 2009. Re-geeks Slab Madness is available through Diamond Comics.
Check with your retailer and get them to order it for you. You won't be signed. ComicMix Radio! ComicMix timeline November 29th. Now to the drug story, it was the combination of action and adventure comics we always got at the end of the month. It was Superman and the Legion in action.
Supergirl was the headliner in adventure comics. We also got DC Special number 6 with a bunch of great western stories and a new one by Gil Kane and Nick Cardi. There was Detective Comics number 395 with Neil Adams on Bad Band. There was Phantom Stranger number 5. There was a new Adam Strange story in Strange Adventures number 222.
And then kind of a small week for Marvel. We got Captain Savage number 18, Chamber of Darkness number 3, Hulk number 124, Silver Surfer. Beautiful work by Buscema there. And it was issue number 13. We got Sub-Paranter number 22 and Kid Cold Outlaw number 143.
Charlton Comics was still chugging along with a couple of interesting books including Jungle Gym number 28 and the Phantom number 36. 1969. In the news, the Apollo 12 moon explorers were back on Earth saying their trip was a blast. Arab terrorists hurled two hand grenades into a crowded marketplace on the Gaza Strip. And the South Vietnamese officials have called for the reopening of an investigation into the alleged Neelai Massacre.
In the movies, the holidays were starting to rule with things like Santa's Fantasy Fair and the Christmas it almost wasn't. For the big people, there was The Undefeated and Gypsy Moths. For the really big people, there was Russ Meyers the Vixen. And pretty much for everybody, Woody Allen's classic Take the Money and Run. TV Tonight had episodes of the Jackie Gleason show with the Honey Mooters.
Saturday Night at the Movie showed us Journey to Shiloh. There were episodes of My Three Sons, Adam 12 and Petticoat Junction. And the Andy Williams show with Bob Hope and Dusty Springfield doing her hit single Brand New Me. This is my same old car and my same old shoes. I was the same old me.
On the radio, a group originally called the High Fives. They started singing together in the early 1960s, but they finally didn't hit the charts until just about 18 months ago. 1969. Working with a string of songwriters, they produced a line of hits like this one written by Lauren Nero. Here's Wedding Bell Blues and the Fifth Dimension.
