Hello, it's Mike Raub. Welcome to The Point where all parts of pop culture come together. You know the voice, you might know the face. Now you get to meet the man. It's Patrick Warburton along from Family Guy and the Venture Brothers. You probably won't see an Anchorman too, but you might see a Magic 8-Ball movie. Yeah, we're serious. It's Friday, April 30, 2010. We get to The Point right now. This is The Point. The Point radio. Get The Point
radio. Some actors make it with their face, others with their voice, but Patrick Warburton does it both. He's the voice behind characters on The Family Guy and the Venture Brothers, and he's the face behind a character on the CBS.com Rules of Engagement. And you might even recognize him from back in the Seinfeld days as well. And now you can add movies to that list. Flicka 2. Yeah, I know it's not going to do anything to help with the cool
quotient, but you know, doing a direct DVD flick a movie. But I did like the script. I thought it was sweet. And every now and then I, you know, I don't think it's a crime to go out and spend a month, you know, working on a movie that you know all 14 of your nieces and nephews can watch. Well, there are some other ways to up that cool quotient. My son Talon found for us and I purchased six months ago a 1969 Dodge Charger and it is the coolest
car ever. Yeah, we love it. It's black. It's got a little bit of a right to it, you know, and it's just she's a beauty. Her name is Angelina. Angelina Jolie. She's too dark, dark and sexy. And so, you know, we named her Angelina, I think, you know, primarily because we felt it was fitting, but also to piss mom off. A full time sitcom, two animated series, now a movie you think Patrick would be the busiest guy in Hollywood. Not so much, you know, I
mean, you're going to adventure brothers, you know, we'll do three or four episodes at once over a couple hour period. No big deal. Family Guy is that's a quick in and out too, you know, because that's that works fast, you know, and then half our TV is not a huge commitment. So I really there's I think there's a perception out there that I'm working all time when I'm not, you know, those who spend all their hours working are those working
on one hour TV shows, you know, who are constantly on film sets, you know, they don't have a life. I have a life. I'd play golf. I hang out with my kids. You know, I actually I have time. Meanwhile, Patrick's acting wish list has a pretty familiar character right at the top. I love like, I love the idea of doing kind of a lack that super. I mean, I'd love to do you know, it would be so much fun to do like to take the movie would be awesome,
you know, but somebody has to jump on that. And, you know, at Barry, you've got themselves always, you know, teasing me with we're talking about it, you know, but he still hasn't done it. So Barry, this is me once again challenging you to make the tech movie before I'm too old to play. And while there's still a shot that I actually get to do the role, because you know, if they were to do the tech movie, I would argue that they'd probably hold higher,
higher, you know, movie star. Patrick's acting resume includes Family Guy, Venture Brothers and Rules of Engagement every Monday on CBS. It's Friday, April 30th, 2010. Here's what's going on in pop culture. In a recent interview with BBC Radio, Steve Carell said that next season might be his last one with The Office. Carell's contract with NBC and the weekly sitcom runs out next year. So it would be an appropriate jumping off point for the actor,
who's certainly starting to make his way into the movie world as well. As of the past few weeks, The Office has had a few rating problems hitting some series lows in the last few Thursday evenings. Right now, it still remains NBC's top rated scripted show award winning director Bill Condon, best known for things like Dreamgirls and Gods and Monsters, is now stepping into the Twilight Arena. Condon has been chosen by Summit Entertainment to direct Twilight Saga Breaking
Dawn, the next movie in this series. The script is still accredited to be by Melissa Rosenberg, although there are rumors that Condon might take a pass at that as well. In the meantime, also still no confirmation that the last movie in the series might be broken up into two separate parts. It's been out of print for almost a decade, but images bringing it back gets the Crusades done by Steven Seagal, drawn by Kelly Jones, who you know from Sandman, and some great Batman stories as well.
There'll be two remastered volumes, the first of which is the Crusades Night, which collects Crusades Urban Decree and Issues of the Crusades 1 through 9. The entire package of the first volume is 256 full color pages in a hardcover format. It'll retail for just under $30. You can find it in comic stores on July 4th. It's already making noise and it hasn't even seen print. It's Chuck Dixon's latest project, Sword of Wood, a historical medieval combat saga with a powerful dark fantasy
vampire side to it. Sword of Wood has been acquired by Frame Light Productions. They have the feature film, video game, merchandise, and comic book rights to the project. No plan yet on exactly which avenue they want to take to get this in the hands or in the eyes of readers in the near future. More than likely, there'll be information between now and the time of Comic Con. Warner Bros. has announced the first Hobbit movie will be released in theaters in December 2012.
That's part of a 20-picture deal between IMAX and Warner Bros. that also has a couple of other interesting things on the schedule. Batman 3 and Superman, no other titles listed there, will be released IMAX theaters by Warner Bros. sometime before the end of 2013. Christopher Nolan is allegedly working on both films for Warner Bros. but neither one has an approved script. Shout Factory has got the rights now to distribute the Marvel Knights' animation properties
to home video. They're going to be doing the motion comics you could have seen on the Marvel.com site over the past year or so, including Astonishing X-Men, Gifted, Iron Man, Spider Woman, and the Black Panther TV series, which was to be released here in North America but instead has only been seen so far in Australia. Look for more information coming soon or check the latest updates at shoutfactory.com. Chances of seeing any more of Ron Burgundy look pretty slim these days. Writer-director of Anchorman
Adam McKay now says that Paramount has passed on doing Anchorman 2. He said that they cut the budget down as much as he could. But Paramount still passed on the project and that pretty much puts an end to any more adventures of the Channel 4 news team because Paramount owns that property and more than likely wouldn't want to hang on to it even though they would not at this point want to do an Anchorman 2. The Jonah Hex trailer is out. We've got a posted for you on our website
GetThePointRadio.com and well let's not go too much into this. I'll give you a little hint though. It's slightly disappointing especially when it looks like all of a sudden Jonah Hex has become a cross somewhere between the Spectre and the Grim Reaper. You'll see more of it when you see the trailer and of course there's plenty of Megan Fox in there as well. I guess in the overall scheme of things when you've got a Stretch Armstrong movie and a Battleship movie coming
out it makes sense to have a movie based on the Magic 8 Ball toy. Paramount has decided to extend its deal with Mattel to option the Magic 8 Ball as a basis for a live-action adventure film. John Gunn and John Mann are attached to do the script for the film. So when is it headed toward theaters? Well, information cloudy. Try again later. If you're having a problem waiting for the return of True Blood to HBO, well first of all me too. Second of all HBO is trying their best to
keep the interest going with the teaser images and even a couple of promos as well that have hit the web over the past couple of weeks but the best thing is a new web series called A Drop of True Blood. It's all original material. There will allegedly be four of these from HBO over the next few weeks. You can catch the first one right now. Silent Green is people. This is my gold. Every few months there's a news story that reminds us school administrators are a pack of idiots. Here's the latest. The Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Ridgewood, New Jersey has ordered its students to drop their Facebook accounts. One of their guidance counselors told CBS News, it's tough love. When they're old
enough and able to handle it, then they can do it. They are children. Middle school kids are around 12 years old. They're just developing their social skills and even if you're a control freak luddite like this idiot counselor, kids need to develop those skills on long contemporary lines. The high school hasn't dropped its driving course to hand out buggy whips. The principal suggested parents monitor text messages and install tracking software on
computers used by their children and that's a very good idea. But banning Facebook, which unlike email and texting is a public vehicle, is a stupid reaction to administrators feelings of impotence. Mind you, I'm hardly Facebook's biggest fan. I have an account but I only go there about once a month. It sucks too much time out of my life but that's my decision. If adolescents aren't allowed to make their own supervised decisions, they will grow up to be useless adults. This is Mike Gold
