This just in: a rep from BBCAmerica has let it out to our man on the scene that Torchwood has been picked up for another season by the BBC. Details to come…

UPDATE: BBC America told ComicMix’s Mike Raub that Torchwood has been picked up for a fourth season. No word on when it will air or the number of episodes. This follows the highly succesful UK broadcast of Children Of Earth.

Face front, true believers, because Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau, along with actors Robert Downey, Jr. (Tony Stark), Scarlett Johanssen (Black Widow), Don Cheadle (James “Rhodey” Rhodes), and Sam Rockwell (Justin Hammer), were on hand to screen some previously-unseen footage at SDCC tonight. Newsarama was there, and thanks to the magic of liveblogging, we have some new tidbits for you:

  • Filming wrapped last week, but it’ll still be a year before it’s ready for theaters.
  • In case there was any doubt, War Machine makes an appearance in the footage they showed.
  • There was nothing to indicate the presence of an alcoholism subplot. At least, not yet.
  • Bob Layton, old-school Iron Man comics scribe, was brought on stage to answer a question about his involvement–which was minimal, save for a visit to the set and his blessing on the project, apparently.

The majority of the panel was Q&A, so if Don Cheadle dodging questions about Meteor Man floats your boat, go take a look.

While they had nothing quite as surprising to announce as the Marvelman announcement yesterday, the DC Universe panel at SDCC had some interesting tidbits come out of it. The highlights, as per CBR’s liveblog:

  • DC has finally acquired the rights to T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents. This has been a long time project for Dan DiDio.
  • Geoff Johns will be writing a Flash ongoing after Flash: Rebirth and Blackest Night: Flash conclude.
  • Sterling Gates, of Supergirl fame, will be writing a Kid Flash ongoing series to accompany Johns’ main title.
  • James Robinson starts his Justice League of America run with issue 38, a Blackest Night tie-in. His line-up will include Mon-El in a new, Superman-inspired costume, Dick Grayson/Batman, and Donna Troy.
  • An upcoming issue of Booster Gold will guest-star G4 TV personality Blair Butler.
  • Deathstroke will become the leader of the Titans later this year(?!).

Folks walking the tiny (ahem) floor at the San-Diego Comic Con this weekend got a sneak peak at the 197 10th and 11th wave of Mattel’s DC Universe Classics line! While wave 10 continues to add another New God to it’s ranks, Wave 11 starts a whole new year of figures you’ll be stomping over kids in Wal-Mart for… That’s right, wave 11 introduces the Green Lantern Corps (and probably the multi-hued combatants forthcoming as well…)!

In appreciation of all the fan support through five seasons of Lost, co-creator/executive producer Damon Lindelof, executive producer Carlton Cuse, and a number of cast members including Jorge Garcia, Michael Emerson, Nestor Carbonelli, Josh Holloway, and… Dominic Monaghan?… gave a fond farewell to all the fans at their final Comic-Con appearance.

Answering questions? I’m sorry, how long have you been following this show?

Oh, all right, we’ll try…

  • Yes, they’ll explain where the food drops came from.
  • We will get Richard Alpert’s backstory. And apparently, Nestor Carbonelli puts on eyeliner before stage appearances.
  • Elizabeth Mitchell will appear in Season 6. So will Daniel Faraday. And a whole slew of people we haven’t seen since Season 1.

Beyond that… wait for January.

If you’re anything like me, your interest in the upcoming animated Marvel Super Hero Squad Show was pretty low, based as it is on a line of toys and comic strips meant for kids too young to know that proper superhero stories involve lots of rape and horrible gory messes. Which is to say, I thought it would be fine for its target demographic, but a little too lowbrow to have the same level of grown men in tights and Neil Patrick Harris musical numbers that the discerning adult requires.

But then there was the Q&A panel at San Diego Comic Con.

Now, what if I told you that Stan Lee was voicing the Mayor?

What if I told you Kevin Sorbo was voicing Ka-Zar?

WHAT IF I TOLD YOU GEORGE TAKEI WAS VOICING GALACTUS?!

Well, if the Marvel liveblog is to be believed, it’s all true. Some other highlights:

  • Steve Blume, who voiced Wolverine in Wolverine and the X-Men and Wolverine vs. The Hulk will be reprising his role here.
  • Tom Kenny, the voice of Spongebob Squarepants, will be playing the roles of Iron Man and MODOK. Other casting announcements here. 
  • “Over 40 years we have seen many interpretations,
    and Marvel has a history of poking fun at themselves- this is a show I can watch, and want to watch with my 8-year-old.     There is humor on an adult scale,” said Marvel E-I-C Joe Quesada, who’s also the show’s Executive Producer.
  • The plot, according to producer Matt Wayne: “All the heroes are in Super Hero City, the
    villains in Villainville, Dr. Doom wants all the pieces of the
    shattered Infinity sword, Iron Man is trying to make sure that doesn’t
    happen.”
  • The associated video game is out October 20th and will feature the main voices from the show.
  • You’re going to see the Heroes for Hire, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Paste Pot Pete, and Screaming Mimi in the first season.
  • Premieres Sept. 19th on Cartoon Network.

Man, is the Twerd Herd out in force for this panel. Not surprising, considering the subject matter, but– wow.

Chuck came back to Comic-Con, to thank all the people who yelled and screamed and supported the show hard enough to help save it while it was on the bubble of cancellation. On hand were executive producers and co-creators Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak, joined by series stars Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Joshua Gomez, Ryan McPartlin, Mark Christopher Lawrence, Vik Sahay, Sarah Lancaster, Scott Krinsky (strolling on stage with his keytar to the tune of “Fat Bottomed Girls” while everyone else played air instruments) and Adam Baldwin, who was on a day pass from doing all those Joss Whedon panels.

Major takeaways from the panel:

  • Chuck Season 2 DVDs will be out in 2010, probably right before whenever the third season airs and that date isn’t locked yet. It will feature 3D episode, behind the scenes footage, Captain Awesome’s tips for being awesome, and Casey’s spy tips.
  • Josh Gomez jokingly addressed the budget cuts required for the renewal: “This season, we can only afford to have Adam Baldwin grunt.”
  • Captain Awesome is ready for his “call to duty” in Season 3. He’ll occasionally be submerged into the spy world as well.
  • Zac Levi wants his own action figure so he can fight Jayne.
  • Chris Fedak was taking notes of all the ideas generated by the Q&A section, including whether Chuck got languages downloaded, Casey’s parents, and a musical episode.
  • http://www.chuckmeout.com/ is a new hub for the Chuck fan community that launched today.

Dwayne McDuffie: “I was once hired to write a Wu-Tang Clan vs Marilym Manson animated feature. And I wrote it. They ended up teaming up.”

The 21st annual Eisner Awards, the “Oscars” of the comics industry, will be given out at a gala ceremony at a brand-new location: the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront. This year’s special them is “Comics and All That Jazz.” Scheduled presenters include writer/actors Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (Reno 911, Balls of Fury), acclaimed comics creators Jeff Smith and Terry Moore, actor/comedian Patton Oswalt, actor/musician/writer Bill Mumy, actress/musician Jane Wiedlin, and G4’s Blair Butler, with many more to be announced.

Other prestigious awards to be given out include the Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award, the Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award, and the Bill Finger Award for Excellence in Comic Book Writing. The master of ceremonies is Bongo Comics’ Bill Morrison.

We’re going to cover it as best as we can here… boldfacing the winners as they are announced.
