Too Much Coffee Man, the comic that became an opera, is returning for a "Refill." Shannon Wheeler’s crazed series about the caffeine-fueled adventures of an eclectic group of coffee house regulars (and the barista who serves them) has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, so I was equally thrilled and perplexed by the creator’s…
When I first heard about the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Mark Miller’s Wanted, I was, as I usually am in these situations, skeptical. Hollywood’s treatment of comic books has ranged greatly over the years and produced some seriously bad movies such as Daredevil, Ghost Rider and The League of Extrordinary Gentlemen. However, to be fair,…
Zack Snyder is a giving man. Not only is he trying his best to stay faithful to the source material in his adaptation of Watchmen, but he keeps the fans informed as well. Continuing his tradition of giving, Snyder has posted large pictures of The Comedian, Rorschach, Silk Spectre, Nite Owl and Ozymandias on his…
The live-action adaptation of Dragonball, originally set to be released on August 15, 2008, has been pushed back to April 3, 2009. 20th Century Fox has moved the film from the busy tail end of this year’s summer movie season to the beginning of next year’s, where it currently faces no competition. The nature of…
Another day, another comic book series being adapted into a movie. Variety is reporting that Pras Michael, best known as the guy who’s not Wyclef Jean in the Fugees, picked up film and TV rights to the ’90s comic book series Dark Oz. The series, which was first published by Caliber Comics under the title…
When the people of the future are in trouble, they turn to one thing to save them from the forces of evil -a tiny robot that doesn’t own a pair of pants and can deploy guns from his rear. Astro Boy is being adapted into a big budget CG movie by Warner Bros. and The…
So you grow up with a favorite comic character and then you actually get into the industry and get a chance to work on the hero you read as a child. What happens when the story you work on happens to be the one in which they trash the character? ComicMix‘s Andrew Pepoy shares his…
Kung Fu Rodeo has posted reports from visitors to the set of "Watchmen" that reveal how many of the characters will look in the live-action adaptation of the graphic novel. The reports contain some spoilers for people who haven’t read the book. (And if you’re one of the people who hasn’t read it, all I…
Turning water into wine: superpower or blessed miracle? The recently released Manga Bible presents it as a little bit of both, apparently. Illustrated by British-born Nigerian illustrator Ajibayo Akinsiku (a.k.a. Siku) and written by Akin Akinsiku, the 200-page book claims to be the "first ever Manga adaptation of the world’s bestselling book." According to a…
USA Today reports that the director of the big-screen adaptation of Y: The Last Man, D.J. Caruso, plans to break up the story of the last man on Earth into several parts. According to Caruso, the first film of what is likely to become a trilogy will focus on the storyline of issues #1-14 of…
This is the second of the “Graphic Classics” series I’ve reviewed for ComicMix, and Mark Twain has essentially the same strengths and weaknesses as Bram Stoker. It’s exceptionally wordy and takes a while to read, since it incorporates big swaths of the original Twain stories as narration or extensive dialogue. I’m not sure if there’s…
