Hi, it's Mike Raub with a look at a comic company that is going back to basics and we mean all the way back. That and more coming up on… Honest 14th. 2008. ComicMix. Use.
Alright, so you didn't make it to San Diego, or if you did, maybe you didn't have a chance to grab one of those fringe preview comics that were given out. Oh, no worry, the graphic story is detailed completely each and every page at a website called FringeTelevision.com. Now, this story leads into the six-part fringe comic book story that goes on sale at the end of this month. Now, that comic leads into the TV show, which begins on Fox in the fall. In the meantime, if you're a Jonzen for a lot more fringe information before you pick up the comic or start the TV series, check out a website called FringePedia.net.
Heads up on this one. In a few days, premiering on the web is Gemini Division. It's a sci-fi mystery thriller done by the NBC Universal Group. It stars Rosario Dawson as an NYPD vice cop searching for her fiance's murder. Now, the plans will be to distribute 50 episodes weekly on NBC.com, Sci-Fi.com, and of course, more than likely Hulu and other outlets as well. It begins on August 18th. Run to Google right now.
Top Cow has a new imprint from a well-deserved creator, Paul Dini. You know him best from his great work these days in detective comics, as well as on the animated Batman and DC superhero series. The imprint is Dini cartoons, and the first book will be Jingle Bell, Santa Claus vs. Frankenstein, which continues. Paul's Jingle Bell series has been out the past couple of holiday seasons from various and different publishers. It'll be written by Paul and illustrated by Stephanie Gladden.
There's a lot more coming, and by the way, these are not all-ages kid comics. Instead, they're broad, humorous, and damn funny things. Take a chance and grab one when you catch it in the store in a couple of months. It's Jingle Bell, Santa Claus vs. Frankenstein, coming from Dini cartoons and Top Cow. With all the talk of Doctor Who and Torchwood, we almost forgot about this, and I kind of feel bad about it.
BBC America has ordered a third season of Robin Hood coming in 2009 with 13 more one-hour episodes. The network is co-producing the new series with Tiger Aspect, and it'll be distributed by BBC worldwide, which means it'll also end up on BBC America at some point. If you haven't caught it in the first two seasons of Robin Hood, both of which I do believe are available on DVD, give it a try, a really excellent interpretation of the classic character.
Ever thought that you could do voiceovers in cartoons or animated features? Well, Bang Zoom Entertainment, which is a leading full-service audio post-production company, has a new documentary, a website, and even a workshop coming on the way. First of all, the website is adventuresinvoicestacting.com, and that is also the name of their documentary, Adventures in Voice Acting Volume 1.
It details a rarely seen behind-the-microphone world of talented and diverse personalities that bring animated and video game characters to life. In addition, with the launch of the website, Bang Zoom has also announced an upcoming Adventures in Voice Acting workshop, where you might even be able to get involved to find out more about whether you fit into the industry as well.

You say you've been there and done that, well, probably not in this way. It's a new line of comics with a totally different back-to-basics twist. And if you don't believe me, then you'll be convinced by writer, creator, publisher, and penciller Ryan Mojiko from Legion Studios. Legion Studios is a horror-based comic that revolves around a lot of spiritual warfare between battle of good versus evil. We do a lot of old EC Comics type stuff with a lot of old-school horror comics.
So is there a way to describe this line of books? A lot of people ask us what kind of books we do, and I don't know if I could put myself in a category, because we just have such a wide range of all kinds of stuff in the horror genre. First off, there's the flagship book. Oh, yeah, our Book of Legion series. That's our bread and butter.
People love that book, but it deals with a war-thought book, that each book is filled with several chapters. Every chapter revolves around somebody's sinful nature and the consequences of being a sinful person here on Earth. Our books really don't deal with anything like superheroes or villains. They're more like everyday people, like you and I or the people next to us, where it's like a constant struggle between just staying good nature.
But yet, there's a lot of people out there who are so wicked and so evil that yet, you can try to be as nice as you can, but there's always going to be one or two people that's going to screw you over somewhere down the line. And then the one that I have to admit is called My Eye, one called The Queen of Sin. The Queen of Sin deals with the story of Lilith, the first woman created before Eve, and she deals with her creation in the Garden of Eden,
and how a lot of mythology said that where Lilith actually was the serpent in the Garden of Eden, that tempted Eve. Also, we have her, like a more modern age story, where Lilith has been, again, through different mythology. She's been known to be like the backbone of every woman who has their moments of getting angry. But yeah, I mean, The Queen of Sin appears as like, I think she could be an actual mythology person, but at the same time, I feel she's energy, where for every woman who has their time of wanting to be confident and angry
and want to get upset and want to do what they want to do, and not so much listen to the quote unquote male supremacy and want to be their own individual person. That's, Queen of Sin is like our one strong female book. I recommend it for a lot of females out there. By these titles, it might take a bit of work, but we can get you started in the right place. Of all the lists we get to share with you, this is one of my favorites. It's the top 20 graphic novels that sold in the bookstores.
That means that the people that shelled out their money for these probably aren't familiar with comic book stores or at least don't make them a regular stop in their daily routine. There's a list of the top 20 that begins with the Marvel Zombies hardcover, volume number 2 from Marvel. At number 19, Death Note from Viz, Death Note volume 2 that is. And Kingdom Hearts 2, volume 2 also from Tokyo Pop is at number 18.
At number 17, The Walking Dead, volume 8 from Image at number 16. The All-Star, Batman and Robin hardcover the first volume collecting the DC Frank Miller series. At number 15, Death Note volume 1 from Viz. At number 14, Bleach volume 23, more top rated manga also from Viz. At number 13, the hardcover or trade paperback of Batman year 1 from Frank Miller and DC.
At number 12, Chiba Vampire, volume 8 from Tokyo Pop. And again back to Miller and Batman for number 11 with the Batman the Dark Knight Returns collection. At number 10, well I would suggest that the movie had something to do with this. The wanted trade paperback by Mark Millar from Image. At number 9, always a mainstay on these lists, Naruto, this is volume 28 from Viz.
At number 8, you guessed it, back to Batman this time for the work of Jeff Loeb in The Long Halloween. At number 7, In Odd We Trust by D.R. Coons, an interesting choice. At number 6, Why the Last Man, volume 10 from Brian Vaughan in DC. At number 5, another Naruto, this time volume 29 from Viz. At number 4, the collection, The New One of Batman the Killing Joke by Alan Moore in DC.
At number 3, Fruits Basket, number 20 from Tokyo Pop. At number 2, Naruto, volume 30, the newest one. That's also from Viz. At number 1, and I bet you're not surprised at this, Watchmen by Alan Moore in DC Comics. At this part of the summer in the comic book stores, we were deep involved in DC's zero hour promotion with a lot of zero hour titles this week.
That included Flash number zero, Legion of Super Heroes zero. Remember Primal Force? Well it was in at number zero as well. We also got the trade paperback of the Jonah Hex two gun Mojo series. Excellent piece of work. From Milestone there was Hardware number 20 and from Vertigo, Sandman Mystery Theater number 19. Over at Marvel there was Marvel Comics Presents at number 164, Guardians of the Galaxy was up to number 53.
We got Deadpool, the new volume of that issue number 3 came in, played the vampire hunter on the way to the movie. Not too far from now. It was in at issue number 4. Iron Man number 309 from Marvel this week as well as from Image, Spawn number 19 and Chaos gave us Evil Ernie Revenge number 1. In the news, the IRS threatened to seize a Colorado sprinkler company for a one cent under payment in their quarterly taxes. Woodstock 94 boasted a crowd of about a quarter of a million people this weekend except it was a little less muddy than the first one.
And Saudi Arabia signed a four million dollar contract with AT&T for the world's most extensive telecommunications project. In the movies there was Airheads, Harrison and Clear and Present Danger. It can happen to you with Nicolas Cage. There was the client from Robert Grisham, Angels in the Outfield. Most of us were more than happy to give our ticket money once, twice, maybe three times through our pals at Dark Horse. It's party time! P-A-R-T. Why? Because I got him!
Sure, it was catchphrase heaven but it was also from comics. It was the mask. On TV tonight on this Sunday we get episodes of America's Funniest Home Videos. 60 Minutes, Lois and Clark, of course the Simpsons and the CBS series that refuse to die. Angela Lansbury plug it away in Murder Heroes. On the radio a young lady born in the Midwest who graduated from Brown University in 1990 with a degree in comparative literature.
But she wanted to be in the music business. Had a lot of friends who wanted the same and they all worked together looking for their big break. Hers came when the guy who lived across the street took a tape of her music to the director of a little film he was working on. The neighbor was Ethan Hawke and the film was Reality Bites where director Ben Siller took one of the songs and slipped it into the soundtrack. And here's where records were broken. The success of the film helped propel this song onto the charts and all the way to the number one spot.
Before the artist, Lisa Loeb, even had her first record contract. Here's Stay. Stay. Atomic Mix. Back on the weekend as we share the story of the phenomenon that is waiting to happen. A lot of people are already into Jane and the Dragon and we're going to explain to you exactly why and how it's going to be taken over American television very, very soon.
