Apparently the end of August has been designated as catch up week, at least in the land of comics and DVDs. Over the next few days, you have the opportunity to jump into a number of critically acclaimed series, contained in trade collections or DVD sets . We lay them all out for you, plus:

in the comic stores in a day or so. Collections are some things you may have missed and series that you might want to try and add to your regular buying list. We'll tell you what those are, including one we think is a best bet. On the way on August 26, 2008, ComicMix used.

We start the week with a couple of stories. They're going to take some explaining down the road, but here's what we know so far. You read this yesterday on ComicMix that Marvel is teaming up with the renowned animation studio Madhouse

to create an entire new universe for their superheroes. It all consists of four anime series set to premiere in spring 2010 in Japan. It's an entire parallel universe for Marvel with four characters completely reimagined and new looks to reflect the Japanese culture. Now Madhouse, you may know, are the guys who were behind the Animatrix,

Batman, Gotham Knight, and the Hellboy animated features. Meanwhile, Warner Brothers told the Wall Street Journal they're planning to reimagine and reintroduce Superman to the movies. That means much like we did, they'll be forgetting Superman Returns and bringing a darker version of the Man of Steel to the big screen soon.

In the meantime, they also hope to have two more DC comic movie adaptations in the works, which are expected to be single character movies. No word as to whether they count one of those as being the Green Arrow movie Super Max. Last weekend, Kurt Busiek announced that Marvels will be coming back as a new six-issue miniseries starting in December.

Marvel's chronicle of the early days of the Marvel Universe has seen through photographer Phil Sheldon's eyes, and this series will pretty much be doing the same thing. It'll pick up with the Marvel Universe of the 70s and the 80s and also drop back for a couple of events in the 60s as well.

Marvel's Eye of the Camera debuts in December. Mash-On is announcing the public beta of the Mash-On Spore comic creator. It's going to be available for Mac, PC, Nintendo DS, and other mobile devices coming up on the 7th of September, not that far from now. The Mash-On Spore comic book creator is a browser-based application

that allows Spore players to create, design, write, and share their own digital comic books, storybooks, and graphic novels by combining graphic, sound, and videos from the game with their own unique Spore creatures and gameplay. You can take these creations, email them to your friends, post them to your favorite social network, or put it on your Mash-On.com profile.

What's coming out this is This Week. Enter the breach this week and we start with a collection of books you may have missed. You know, Terry Moore's got that new series called Echo. Well, the first few issues are collected in a trade paperback, volume one, titled Moon Lake from abstract this week.

Good way to check it out, see if you'd like to continue buying the title. From Arcana, there's Burn number five, which is a six issue series. And then from Dark Horse, Emily the Strange 2, Alone issue number four. Star Wars Legacy number 27 and Star Wars Rebellion number 16. Speaking of collections, from DC, All-Star Superman is collected,

the first few issues anyway. And the All-Star Superman trade paperback, volume one. There's Ambush Bug Year None, number two in a six issue series. America's Best Comics Primer, the trade paperback, if you want to catch up on that particular arm of the DC Universe.

Also this week, Batman Gotham After Midnight number four, that's a 12 issue series. Little Beetle number 30. More collections, Brave and Bold, this time volume two of the Book of Destiny. This is the second run of stories in the recent Brave and Bold revival

and that's a hardcover too as well. Catwoman winds it down, I believe, this time with number 82 this week from DC. Another trade collection from Countdown, Lord Havoc and the Extremis collected all in the trade paperback. Speaking of Countdown, Final Crisis and the like,

here we go with a couple of about three titles this week that I'll tie into that. It's the DC Universe Last Will and Testament number one from DC. From Vertigo, DMZ number 34, there's Family Dynamic number one for the All Ages group. And then back to Final Crisis, we get Final Crisis, Rogue's Revenge number two. That'll be three issues when it's done.

And the first of two issues is something called Final Crisis, Superman Beyond. We get Jag of Fables number 25 this week, Justice Society of America number 18, which has a very uncover. Legion of Superheroes number 45 continues. There's Lost Boys, Reign of Frogs, which winds up a four issue series, that being number four.

Madame Xanadu number three is this week, Northlanders number nine. There's Keith Giffen's Reign in Hell number two. That'll go a total of eight issues. Secret History of the Authority Hawksmore number six winds up that series. There's the Collection of Suicide Squad from the Ashes in a trade paperback this week.

Superman number 679 continues to get better and better. There's Supernatural number five, that's Rising Sun is the story arc. And that's number five in a six issue series. And then that brings us to our first best bet of the week. It's Team Titans number 62, a really fun story here.

Nothing's going to shake the world, but it's got some references back to the old days of the Super Friends, including Wonder Dog. You'll understand when you read it. Also, there's Team Titans year one number six, which winds up that series. Trinity of course, number 13 this week. There's Wildcat Worlds end number two from WildStorm, and that winds it up for DC.

From Devil's Do this week, there's the Halloween 30th Anniversary special, which has at least four different covers. Make sure you get the one you want from your retailer. Also, Voltron, a Legend Forge number two, that has a couple of different covers as well. Then another best bet this week from Image and creator Robert Kirkman.

It's cool! Astounding Wolfman has been a series that has gotten a lot of accolades for Robert, despite the fact he's done some amazing stuff just about everywhere. And now the Astounding Wolfman first few issues collected in a trade paperback, a great way to check it out.

That's this week from Image. Also, there's Brit number eight, Gorilla's number one, which will be a nine issue series, New World Order Dawn of the New Day collected in a trade paperback, Pax Romano finally number three, and that four issue run comes out, as well as proof number 11 this week from Image, and Vix number two, which is a three issue series.

From Marvel, we get Angel Revelations number four in that five issue series. Sacred Invasion tie-in moves over to Black Panther number 40. There's Daredevil number 110 this week, which has one of those rare monkey variants, if you're lucky enough to get it. Fantastic Four, true story, continues his four issue run with number two.

Speaking of the FF, there's the Walt Simons and issues collected in a trade paperback, the second volume of Walt's work in a visionary trade paperback this week from Marvel. There's Ghost Rider Annual number two this week, Haunt of Horror Lovecraft number three, which winds up that series. And more Lion Fist number 18, and then for the all ages crowd,

a nice chunk of reading. Just in time for Back to School, there's Marvel Adventures Avengers number 27, Marvel Adventures Fantastic Four number 39, and Marvel Adventures Iron Man, the third trade paperback digest there, as well as the second issue of Marvel Adventures Super Heroes. As Marvel Comics presents number 12 this week, New Exiles number 10,

New Warriors number 15 is a Secret Invasion tie-in. There's new Universal Conqueror Nova number 16, which is a Secret Invasion tie-in. And then our last best bet for the week, third run of the title back again, and it's gotten a lot of notice each time it's been around. So this time will probably be no different.

You may want to jump on board right away to the third version of Runaways. Runaways three this week, we get number one in the new run, and it should be really interesting for Marvel. We also get Secret Invasion Spider-Man number one this week. That'll be three issues when it's over.

I'm going to grab that fast. She-Hulk 2 number 32 this week is not only a Secret Invasion tie-in, but it has a Monkey variant as well. There's Scar set up Hulk number three, Thunderbolts number 123, again a Secret Invasion tie-in. Finally, we get to wind up Orson Scott Card's Ultimate Iron Man 2 with the fifth issue in that run.

There's X-Force number six, part of the divided we stand run for the X-Men series. We also get the Young and Human's trade favor back this week. And wrap it up, good reading with alter ego number 80 from tomorrow. The world of DVDs this week continue to be a good place for you to catch up on the TV series you may have missed last year, just in time for the start of the new season.

Not that far away. But there are a few direct to DVD or direct for the big screen releases as well, starting with Ashton and Cameron in What Happens in Vegas. Red Belt is on DVD this week, a British import called My Sassy Girl 2. There's also one called Postal, Purple Violets, a film called August.

Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden from Morgan Spurlock Hits DVD this week, and they had a little run in some indie theaters. Also on DVD, Hayden Christensen and Virgin Territory. And then we got our remakes, Blu-ray versions and collections of The Nightmare Before Christmas from Tim Burton. There's a Blu-ray version this week I think you would enjoy.

Oh dude, where's my car? Well, just in case you want that. Better versions though of things like Pale Rider and Arnold Schwarzenegger's End of Days and the recent Miami Vice movie. Again, all repackaged this week on Blu-ray. Now let's move on to TV this week.

You get collections of One Tree Hill. That is season five. There's also NCIS season five this week on DVD. A few days from now we finally get to see the final season of The Shield. You can catch up with last season number six in a great DVD collection this week as well.

Another good thing to catch up on, on Tries you get season number four this week on DVD. But I know the one we're all going to be lined up for, season two of Heroes. Packed with lots of extras. Hits the stores this week. And of course season three premieres on NBC on September 22nd.

We got Star Trek Next Generation number 76. How about Shadow Dragon? There was the first Shadow Dragon annual this week. We also got the Rey number 17. A good series that I miss.

Legionnaires number 30 of course and Batman Chronicles number two from DC. From Marvel, Generation X number nine. Wolverine 95. X-Men Adventures was running. We're up to issue number nine there.

We got Gargoyles number 10 and New Warriors number 65. From Image this week we got Glory number eight and it was Ghost number eight from Dark Horse. 1995. In the news, a blazing wildfire burned for a second day, destroying thousands of acres of land on New York's Long Island.

Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole returned campaign contributions from a gay rights organization. And after repairs, the space shuttle Endeavor was ready to lift off. In the movies, you had a few choices for your ticket money, which included Baby-Sitters Club, A Walk in the Clouds, Babe, Nine Months, and Michelle Pfeiffer in a movie with an incredible soundtrack from Coolio.

Some well-deserved awards for Dangerous Minds. TV Tonight had The Adventures of Mary, Kate, and Ashley. Somehow we forgot that one. There was the world's funniest commercials two-hour special, Walker, Texas Ranger, and another episode of Dr. Quinn, Netizen.

On the radio was a girl group that ranks so high they sold 22 million albums in the U.S. alone and made them the second best-selling female group and the best-selling R&B group in American music history. It was a long row though to that point. One of the members had to go through rehab, and they got help from a lot of great people, including Sean "Puffy" Combs. This is though when they were at the top of their game with a best-selling album called Crazy Sexy Cool.
