Broadcast, 254. ComicMix.com September hits hard, are you ready? ComicMix.com Hi, it's Mike Raub. What a month September's going to be with another good comic convention to wind up the year.
The brand new TV season kicks off at last, and of course a lot of great comics as well. We're going to cover them all beginning right here, right now, so get ready on September 2nd. 2008 ComicMix Use The big news this week on the internet is the release of Google Chrome. It's a search giant's long-roobered open-source browser project.
Like it or not, there's one thing that may catch your interest. It's a detailed 38-page comic book on how to use the browser system. Designed and created by long-time cartoonist and friend of ComicMix, Scott McCloud. Like everything Scott does, it's cute and clean and very well done. It was a big story over the weekend, but it's well-deserved to mention again that the Dark Knight has now hit the $500 million mark in domestic box office receipts. Actually, it's $504.7 million, according to the money taken in over the weekend. It reached in just 45 days. The number one movie, Titanic, which stands at $600 million, took 91 days to reach its first $500 million. And one more fun water cooler statistics.
If you take inflation into account, Dark Knight would have to equal somewhere in the neighborhood of $900 million in ticket sales to equal what Titanic has done so far. Remember Elton John's animated movie project to be done by CGI called No Me Oh and Juliet? It's a Shakespeare adaptation, of course, about the star across lovers. Well, it looks like the movie might feature the voices of a hot male star James McAvoy and Emily Blunt. At least that's according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie's expected to include a soundtrack that features a number of Elton Tits songs, maybe some new ones as well. Originally, it had been set up to be released through Disney, and originally, Kate Winslet was assigned to the project as well. Even Ian McGregor was also associated with the project, but right now, Disney, Ian and Kate are no longer involved in the deal. Hi, this is Darwyn Cooke, and you're listening to ComicMix. What's coming out this is This Week. Always a lot of interesting choices in the stores. When you start out with the Dark Horse section, this week, another issue of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That's number 18. We get in League number four and M.B.D. Psycho, the trade paperback series.
This is the sixth volume in that run from Dark Horse. From DC this week, couple of notes you may want to look for. There's a second printing variant from Action Comics number 866. They want to check on that one. We get the Adam Strain special number one, Our Army at War, The Art of War number two, and that six-issue series continues.
Enjoying that a lot. Authority number two this week from DC Comics, as well as for the Old Ages group. Batman Strikes number 49. Batman R.I.P. continues in a couple of titles this week, starting with Detective Comics number 848. El Diablo was revived, and believe me, this is not your 70s western character.
It starts out with the first issue now that'll run six issues in total. We get Fables number 75, Fringe number one, based on the series. It'll begin in a few weeks from ABC and J.J. Abrams. This is a six-issue run. We get Green Lantern number 34.
We get Hellblazer Presents, Chaz the Knowledge number three. That's five issues when it's done. House of Mystery number five this week, Jonah Hex number 35, and Manhunter number 34 all this week. Another Batman R.I.P. tie-in, this time Nightwing number 148, and then our first best bet of the week. It's cool!
It's Gail Simone's revamp of Secret Six, which she explains pushes the limits just a little. Nicholas Scott's the artist on it, and trust me, she's every bit as wicked as I am, if not more. So this series probably pushes the limits of DC a little bit, but we will have Newt Katman. It begins a run this week with issue number one. Check that out.
Also from DC Storming Paradise number three, that'll be six issues when it's done. Supergirl number 33, Titans number four. Joe Cubis' beautiful tour continues. We get issue five in that six-issue run. Of course, another issue of Trinity this week.
We're already up to number 14, and we get the Unman number 13, final underground number 12, and the war, the time-forgotten number five in a 12-issue run from DC Comics. This week from Devil's Dew, there's Spooks Omega team number one. A couple of different covers on that one you want to check out. From Dynamic Forces, Army of Darkness, Long Road Home number 12, and our second best bet.
It's cool! Always an easy choice here when it comes to the boys. We're up to issue number 22 in the run from Dynamic Forces. We also get new Battlestar Galactica season zero this week at number 12, and Savage Tales number nine from Dynamic Forces.
From Image, there's Darkness, the reader edition of the new issues one through three. Great catch-up there. You want to check out what that title has to offer in the months to come. There's Noble Causes number 36, Savage Dragon number 137, and Spawn number 182 from Image, as well as Witchblade number 120, which has a couple of different covers as well.
Over to Marvel, Counter-X, the trade paperback. We get volume two in that run. There's also Dead of Night, Devil Slayer number one from Marvel Comics, and the Essential Thor trade paperback. Now, this is a new printing of it, of course.
If you haven't picked it up yet, add to your shelf. There's a good time to do it. We get Eternals number four, the Iron Man Golden Avenger one shot, and the Iron Manual trade paperback. Speaking of catch-up, there's the Kick-Ass Must Have this week,
which has a number of those early first issues that are impossible to find. And again, a great way to jump onto a really good book. There's the Marvel 1985 Must Have editions. There's a couple of different ones of those, including some covers and wraparound versions as well,
but again, a great way to catch up on that ongoing title. For the all-ages group, Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, the trade paperback, volume 10, this is the Crisis issue. There's also Marvel Apes number one. Now, this is not the variant.
This is the actual Marvel Apes book. It's a four-issue run, and of course, it comes with a variant as well this week for Marvel. There's Marvel 2 and 1 number 15, Ms. Marvel Annual number one this week.
But as your War Journal hits number 23, which does have a monkey variant if you're lucky enough to get it, there's Secret Invasion front line number three and a five-issue run. That is, of course, a Secret Invasion title. Speaking of second printing variants,
there's She-Hulk 2 number 31, which is a second printing variant this week. Terry Moore continues, and Spider-Man loves Mary Jane season two, issue number two of a five-issue run, and yes, there's a monkey variant there.
We're almost ready for Marvel's release of the Stephen King stand series. Can't wait for that. We get the stand Captain Drips miniseries this week. That'll kick it off and whet your appetite. It's a five-issue run,
and it has a number of different variants available as well. There's also the Submariner miniseries, the new one called Submariner Depths. It hits this week with the shoe number one and a five-issue run. And then our next best bet, the 12-issue one-half.
Again, another great series to catch up on. 12.1 half this week makes an excellent bookend. Check out and see what JMS is doing here. There's a Universal War 1 number three, which winds up that three-issue series.
Denim Dark Origin hits number two in a five-issue run, then back to the X-land. X Factor number 33, there's a second printing variant this week, and X Force number five, a second printing wraparound variant this week. X-Men Manifest Destiny number one begins a four-issue run,
and that story arc is going through some of the X titles. We also get X-Men Origin Beast and X-Men The Return of Magic from Marvel. Not a lot of features this week on DVD, but lots and lots of TV as we get ready for the new season, just days away. There's the Pierce Brosnan movie Married Life,
and the Sean William Scott, John C. Reilly film The Promotion, as well as a little something that looks almost direct to DVD called Then She Found Me. Speaking of direct to DVD, it made the rounds on the IFC cable channel. Now it is on DVD as well. A little independent movie called How to Rob a Bank.
From TV and repackaging this week, well, we got a lot of different stuff. Let's talk about the repackages, lots of things coming out in new editions and or in Blu-ray, including Bright Lights Big City. Also this week, of course, there's the Boys in Company C repackage, Eraser, as well as a number of Clint Eastwood movies,
The Gauntlet, Every Which Way But Loose, and the Outlaw of Josie Wales as well. All available this week in some repackaging in one way or another. And the big Blu-ray release this week was the special edition of the Transformers. Of course, our favorite overall, not repackage, is all brand new, and one we've been looking forward to, is the next original Marvel release.
This is the next Avengers. You heard us talk about this a lot direct from the San Diego Comic Con. Finally in the stores and worth checking out, The Next Avengers is available this week on DVD. Now from TV, lots of stuff to catch up on. There's the season four of The Office package.
Lots of extras on there as well. Season one of Life, in case you missed that, I want to check it out when it returns to NBC on Fridays in a few weeks. From the past, season 10 of Cheers available this week on DVD, as well as season one of The Big Bang Theory from CBS,
season three of The Ghost Who Whisper this week, and season one of The Little Show That Could. Eli Stone, co-created by comic book writer Mark Guggenheim, who talks a bit about how he came through the creation process for the show with his writing partner Greg Berlant.
We were talking about it, and that's where we coincided with an idea that Greg had for a lawyer who might be a modern day prophet. Because, you know, as one of our characters remarks, if God were to send another prophet to Earth, why not a lawyer? And it actually makes a lot of sense because the original word prophet
comes from the ancient Greek, which, prophetes, which means a delegate or a spokesperson for another, and that's what a lawyer is. So it actually all ties together, makes a lot of sense. Eli Stone returns to ABC in a few weeks,
