Broadcast, 270. ComicMates.com They got hacked right out of the diamond catalog. ComicMates.com Hi, it's Mike Raub and you know copyrights might affect the way you get or don't get a copy of one of your favorite independent comic titles.
We'll tell you the whole story and send you in the right direction all coming up on October 7th, 2008. Standing firmly behind one of their biggest titles, Devil's Dew Publishing is going to self distribute hack slash issues 16 and 17. That means they won't go through Diamond Comics and your local comic store won't be able to buy them that way. This whole thing started when Diamond Comics got a cease and desist letter about the issues from a recently registered company Reanimator LLC.
This company claims that they own the rights to the Reanimator character, the one that's being used in the current story arc in hack slash Cassie and Vlad beat the Reanimator. So far the original owner Brian Usana says that he owns the film franchise rights and the comic book rights to the character and he's the one that did the deal with Devil's Dew. Getting out of the way, Diamond says they don't want to touch these comics until it's all settled somewhere in a legal fashion.
So for your local retailer to get a copy of hack slash 17 and 16, they have to go through Devil's Dew Publishing. Check their website out for that. You may want to do the same if you want to be sure you get your copy. Here's a phrase we'll probably get used to saying over the next couple of months, just in time for Christmas. That's what we can tack on to the announcement that The Dark Knight will be available on DVD and of course in a Blu-ray release as well.
On December the 7th, putting it in stores just in time for the holiday. No announcement officially yet on all the extra features or exactly what will be contained or how many releases of the movie they'll be on DVD. Trust though, we will let you know as soon as we do. Mike Newell, the guy behind Four Weddings and a Funeral and Harry Potter Goblet of Fire, has optioned the rights to the character Mercy Thompson. Mercy Thompson comes from a series of books written by Patricia Briggs.
She's a shape-shifting vampire hunter who also happens to be a car mechanic on the side. The series began in 2006. There are three volumes out so far. With a fourth volume ready in 2009, seems to me it would make a pretty good comic book as well. Creator-owned comics advocate Robert Kirkman has made the announcement that his titles, Walking Dead, Invincible, Astounding Wolfman and Brit,
will be guaranteed this ship by their solicited ship dates in 2009. Yep, guaranteed is the magic word there. He said he's taken the extra step of hiring Aubrey Stidderson as an editor for the entire line. Aubrey's a guy that Robert worked with at Marvel for the Irredeemable Ant-Man and Marvel's team-up books as well. Again, you should get on time Walking Dead, Invincible, Astounding Wolfman and Brit all through 2009, says Kirkman.

The Apple Brothers leads the list this week with their fourth issue of the George RR Martin's Wild Cards series. It's issue number four. It'll be a six-issue run when it's over. This one is called Hard Call.
Dark Horse has BPRD, the warning this week, number four. That'll be five issues when it's done. Also from Dark Horse, the in-league number five, goon number 29, helm number three, which is a four-issue series. Rex Mundy, the Dark Horse version, hits number 14 as well this week. From DC, 100 Bullets number 96 and then our first best bet. It's cool!
Try to keep hammered at home until you pay attention, but there's a lot going on in the Superman universe. And it is my uneducated guess that this is going to tie into big things for DC in 2009. James Robinson, Geoff Johns and a lot of great talents are involved. Right now you get Action Comics number 870 this week, which by the way has a variant edition as well, so pay attention. Over the All Ages group this week, there's Batman Confidential number 22.
Batman RIP heads to the home stretch in Detective Comics number 849. There's the first issue of Ferryman. That'll be five issues when it's done. Final Crisis checks in with Final Crisis Revelations number three. That's a five-issue series. We get the first issue of Gears of War this week. That could be interesting. There's a variant edition on that one as well.
Gen 13 number 23 is this week, just like Green Arrow Black Canary number 13. Green Lantern number 35 and Green Lantern Corps number 29. Again, for the All Ages group, Legion of the Superheroes in the 31st century number 19. Gail Simone's Secret Six hits issue number two. There's Simon Dark number 13. And again, Trinity this week. This is issue number 19.
We get Two-Face Year One number two, which winds that one up. And Wonder Woman number 25 plus Young Liars number eight from the scene. From Devil's Doo, there's Core number zero this week to take you back to that point. Crafted hits number 11. Forgotten Realms Starless Knight begins a new series with number one. And a couple of different covers there as well.
And there's Worlds of Dungeons and Dragons number five, which also has a couple of different covers. From Dynamic Forces, Giant Size Red Zone number two, and Lone Ranger number 14. As well as New Battlestar Galactica Ghost number one, which is a four-issue series. Just in time to replace the candy maybe in those Halloween bags. I bought Walt Disney Comics and Stories number 695 and Uncle Scrooge number 380.
Both great packages from Gemstone. And then from Image this week, there's the 13 Chambers one-shot. Bomb Queen 5 number four rolls along. That'll be six issues when it's done. There's Dragon Prince number two. That has a couple of different covers, including one by ComicMix's own Mike Oeming. There's High Kill Giants number four. That's a seven-issue series.
And Spawn number 184, as well as just getting ready to be on time. So Promises Robert Kirkman. Walking Dead number 53 from Image. From Marvel, there's Amazing Spider Girl number 25, which has a variant drawn by the Busama guys. That should again be something you look forward to. There's also a Zombie variant on Amazing Spider Girl 25 as well.
Speaking of variants, there's a second printing version of Amazing Spider-Man number 570 in this week. If you're lucky enough to find that. Also Amazing Spider-Man Family number two. Big Hero 6 hits this week. That'll be five issues when it's done. Another second printing variant comes in with Black Panther number 40 this week.
You may want to check on that one. Stephen King material Dark Tower treachery number two in his six-issue series. That's this week along with some variants. And Dead of Night Devil Slayer number two as well. That's a four-issue run.
We get Deadpool number three, which has a variant as well and is a secret invasion tie-in. And then the first of two best bets from Marvel. Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game begins the run of the first of two different series at Marvel. And Orson is more than happy to explain that it was not an easy road to get there. I finally was able, about a year ago, I, my wonderful entertainment lawyer,
was able to detach the rights to the Ender's Game comic book from the movie rights. So that as the movie goes into perpetual limbo, which is, you know, it's been 12 years now I'm working on this movie project. We're the same producers, but we detach the comic books so we can go ahead. That we are going to be doing not one but two comic book series, one of Ender's Game and one of Ender's Shadow. And so they'll be moving parallel, you know, the two novels are parallel.
And so we're going to have two comic book series where there are actually scenes that are identical, except from different points of view and meaning different things to the different characters. It's going to be a lot of fun, especially because two different artists are going to be doing the books. So we're going to be having a lot of fun. Ender's Game battle school this week, it's number one.
There'll be five issues when it's done and there's a sketch variant and a regular variant on this one as well. The Dragon Seat Saga story arc is contained this week in an Iron Man grade paperback. Now, if you want to catch up on kick ass, there's a way to do it this week. There are various printings of the first four issues come again. There's a third printing varied on issues one, two, and three, and a second printing varied on number four.
Check with your retailers. You can get the whole thing and catch up on what everybody's talking about. For the all ages group Marvel Adventures Hulk number 16 this week and Marvel Illustrated Odyssey number two, that'll be eight issues when it's done. And then yet another, it's cool. As time goes to Marvel Zombies 3, this is a new series for Marvel, four issues when it's done.
We get the first issue this time along with an Arthur Sudan variant as well. There's Secret Invasion Inhumans at number three. One more to go to wind up that four issue run. Spider-Man brand new day number one this week as well as Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane season two number three. Speaking of Stephen King, The Stand continues with Stan Captain Trips number two and a couple of variants on that to keep it going in its five issue run later in the week. We'll talk to the creative team behind The Stand to let you know exactly what's going on with his really innovative new Marvel adaptation.
Of one of the best of Stephen King. Twelve number eight hits this week. Speaking of the best, that'll be twelve issues when it's done. There's another second printing variant this time for the old man Logan run in Wolverine. There's a Steve Magnificent variant to Wolverine number 68.
We also get X-Men Magneto Testament number two in a five issue run and X-Men Manifest Destiny number two, which also is a five issue miniseries. First issue of X-Men Original Sin hits this week. There's the Young Avengers Presents series all contained in a trade paperback and all out this week for Marvel and winding down. There's Succulina Vampire 10th back again and it sold out for a while.
It's available again in stores from our buddies at Moonstalk on the DVD shelves this week and equal amount of feature films and television. You don't mess with the Zohan hits with a couple of different versions, including one that has multi discs and all sorts of special features happening this week. Hits DVD shelves as well as does the visitor. Two totally different concepts. Don't get those confused. Direct to DVD there's Slacker Uprising and Paranoid Park. Enter those at your own risk. How about some repackaging? There's some beautiful remastered stuff done this week with a new version of the Seventh Voyage of Sin bed.
And Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty. There's also repackaging special editions of some of the James Stewart Alfred Hitchcock or some of the plain Hitchcock movies. For example, you can get Rear Window and Vertigo with James Stewart under Alfred's direction. There's also a new version of Psycho and Touch of Evil. The Omen, but in the Omen collection around this week and also a new repackaged Blu-ray version of Young Frankenstein.
You can also upgrade to Blu-ray versions of Carrie and Watership Down. A lot of choices for your TV collection, including Simpsons Season 11. The critically acclaimed 30 Rock Season 2 is out this week on DVD as well. And Robot Chicken wound up Season 3 just a few days ago. Now it is in a DVD package you can touch and own if you got the money to pay for it. Submission Impossible Season Number 5, one of the best of that series is getting into the really good ones.
That is available this week on DVD as well. Plus the Beverly Hillbillies Season 2, the Speed Racer animated series this week on DVD. I'll admit your mother is Season Number 3 this week. And don't overlook this one, one of the best of the Doctor Who spin-offs and it does tie into everything in the Who universe, especially in the future. The Sarah Jane Adventures Season 1 available this week not on the internet, but on DVD.
ComicMix Radio ComicMix Timeline October 12, 1968 There was a little turmoil in DC Comics at this time, not necessarily in the company, but in the comics as well. We were down at the Spinner Rack talking it over with our friends when we got Adam and Hawkman Number 40.
Not real happy about the fact those two titles have been smooshed together into one. We got Bad Lash Number 2, great work by Nick Carty in there. Bad Man Number 207, Brave and Bold Number 81 with Bad Man in the Flash. Aukendove hit issue number 3 with No Steve Ditko and a total change in direction for that book. We got Jimmy Olsen Number 116, Justice League Number 68.
And The Metal Man by Mike Sakowski, totally different from the original concept here as well. All dressed up as humans and running from the police. In Marvel Land it was a little bit different story. We got Avengers Number 59 with Yellow Jacket and the introduction to him. X-Men Number 51 had a Jim Staranko issue we'll never forget.
We got Daredevil Number 47, Thor Number 159, which actually gave us the answer behind who Thor really was. We got Sergeant Fury Number 61, Submariner Number 9 and Marvel Super Heroes Number 18 with a brand new feature called the Guardians of the Galaxy. In the news, South Vietnamese troops and US Green Berets seized five Vietnamese villages without firing a shot. Half of the US Senate voted to halt any bombings of North Vietnam
and Werner von Braun said that unless something dramatic happens, the Russians will soon be flying rings around the US in the space race. In the movies there was Heart is a Lonely Hunter, Boom, The Bride Wore Black, The Secret Life of an American Wife and Five Million Miles to Earth. Close to the home tonight, episodes on TV of Mayberry RFD, The Outcast, the Prime of Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, an episode of Family Affair and the Magistry of Barbara and the Big Valley. 1968
On a radio, one of those English rock bands formed by bits and pieces of other groups. For example, you take Chris Curtis, who was the drummer for The Searchers, team him up with Hammond organ genius John Lord and begin the process that would produce a group that the Guinness Book of World Records would call the world's loudest band. Doesn't work though unless you turn it up a couple of notches, especially with this wood. Here's Hush and Deep Purple. Hush, Hush, I need the lovin' and now I'm playin' now.
