ComicMix Radio: The Stand Spreads Slowly

Broadcast, 271. ComicMix.com Stephen King's already on firm ground. ComicMix 3.0 Hi, it's Mike Raub, and just about a month ago, Marvel Comics added another tier to their Stephen King empire when they released the beginning of the stand.
It's going to be a long run with a lot of twists and turns, and we've got the artist Mike Perkins to fill us in on the path. That's all coming up on October 9th, 2008. ComicMix News. Back at Comic-Con, Warner Brothers announced their new way for comic fans to have access to some of the characters and stories they love. On their phones and on iTunes as well, this was to be called Motion Comics from Warner Brothers. The first Motion comic to debut was Watchmen, and the first chapter of that was available.
Now this week, the second chapter of the Watchmen Motion comic is available on Xbox Live and the Sony PlayStation Store over the next couple of days. In addition, customers have arrived in wireless who have Vcast and Sprint customers with Sprint TV can also access it, and is also available on iTunes as well. Chapter 3 will be out not that far from right now, the week of October 20th, and there was also news this week. A future plans for more DC Motion Comics. Batman Black and White and the Superman Red Sun graphic novels are also being developed into the system. No word on when we'll see those. In the meantime, keep up on the latest Motion Comics and iTunes, Amazon Video on Demand, through Xbox Live and the Sony PlayStation Store, and Verizon Wireless with Vcast and Sprint customers.
Check your Sprint TV account. If you're playing the World of Warcraft CCG, here's some great news for you. There's new information on some loot cards that'll be part of the new Drums of War expansion for the game. They'll come out in stores on the 28th of October. It includes a couple of great cards, one called Own, which is an uncommon loot card giving players the flag of ownership, and is playing a thumbs down for victory by planting a corpse at the feet of a fallen enemy. And Slash Dance, the super common loot card giving players a stack of party grenades, which when thrown make the targets dance for one minute.
These and more available in the new World of Warcraft expansion, they'll be out in stores on the 28th of October. While you read it here earlier this week on ComicMix, Berkeley Brethren is putting the end to Opus, which pretty much also puts the end to the Bloom County franchise. It's been a major part of pop culture since the 1980s. Opus, which has spun off from the original Bloom County, has been a five year old Sunday comic with a pretty much political slant, and has been appearing in newspapers around the country. In a slightly ironic move, the political based comic will end on November the 2nd, right before this year's election day. It's one of those great internet things that are fun to talk about, but probably don't have a lot of bases in fact.
While Bryan Singer and Brandon Routh probably will be involved in any sort of Superman project in the near future, the Belfast Telegram newspaper has an interview with actor Kevin Spacey. He says that whenever the film takes place, he'll be returning as the character of Lex Luthor. It all began last March when Stephen King broke the news that Marvel was adapting to Stan as a comic book series beginning in the early fall. And then things kicked off like they usually do for Stephen King Marvel Comics collaborations with a big late night September release party. Stan Captain Trips is now in comic stores and it picks up at the very beginning of the Stan story, the beginning of the super flu outbreak, as elaborated on by Stan artist Mike Perkins.
So for the true Stephen King Affectionato, is this a true adaptation? Yes, yes, it's a true adaptation of it. Now you might remember the amazing work Mike Perkins was doing on Captain America, so how did he get here? They, I was very lucky. They asked me, I was ready to move on from Cap and they asked me if I was interested in the Stan and I jumped at the chance. To bring the entire story of the Stan into comics, it's not an easy task. There will be six five-issue miniseries.
It's 30 issues and it's gonna be a nice chunk of work for the next three years. Meanwhile, Mike is still staying a little active in the Marvel Universe. I'm doing covers as well. I've been doing some covers for the Civil War, House of M thing that's coming out. And I'd still like to keep my hand in the Marvel Universe as well, by doing different covers for different things. So that's something I've got to chat with the guys about.
So right now he's busy, but when it comes time to move on, I had to ask what other characters Mike would like to see on his drawing board. Well, it's gonna be a while. But yeah, yeah, I mean, there's plenty of things. I love to have a nice run on Wolverine or something. There's so many characters at Marvel. Oh yeah, yeah. So, but yeah, I mean, there's so many different things I'd like to tackle. ComicMix Radio. ComicMix timeline.
October 9th, 1973. This week down at the Spinning Rack, we were smacked up in the middle of what a lot of us called the Spooky 70s for DC. I mean, with a week that gave you House of Mystery 221, Ghost number 22, and Secret of the Sinister House number 16. How could you think anything else? There was also Secret Origins number 6, which had a great recap of Black Hawk's origin.
We got GI Combat number 168, Commandee came in at number 13, and there was Superman number 271. From Marvel, there was Amazing Adventures number 22, Captain America number 169, just about ready to head into some great Steve Gerber stories. Creatures on the Loose number 27 was this week, Marvel premiere number 13 as well. Marvelous Men and Gene Colan cranked out Tomb of Dracula number 16, and then there was the first issue of the latest incarnation of K-Saw. 1973.
In the news, it was all about the Mideast conflict. Secretary of St. Henry Kissinger said that Russian relations could be imperiled if the Soviets didn't act responsibly in the Middle East. The Arab-Israeli war heated up on the ground and in the air as Israeli Phantom Jets bombed Cairo for the first time, and the UN Security Council were miles apart in their efforts to end the conflict. In the movies this week, not a lot of highbrow affair. There was Don't Look in the Basement, Lady Kung Fu, Robert Blake was in Electric Lide in Blue,
and there was Westworld as well with Yule Brenner. Couple of bright spots though, we're banging the drums slowly, and of course the movie adaptation of Godspell. While the monsters were in the comics, the cops were all over TV. Tonight there were episodes of Chase, Hawaii Five-0, Police Story. There was The Magician, you threw in a little bit of fun with an episode of Maud, and the season premiere of a show taken right from the movie.
Not a long life though for the TV adaptation of Chef. On the radio, one of those musical enigmas, they were the biggest band in the history of recording, and when they broke up it seemed only logical that each of the members would go solo and have hit music on their own, right? Eh, maybe not. While most of his stuff got airplay in the US, this guy never had a number one record in England again.
This is one of the ones that got the closest though from the 73 album called Ringo. Here's Ringo Starr's Photograph. Every time I see your face, it reminds me of the place that we used to go. But all I've got is a photograph, and I realize you're not coming back anymore. Back on the weekend as we talk to the guys who do their best to keep comic history alive,
