Well, maybe a small one, but at the comic shops this week there's a bounty of great stuff. We're going to point you in a couple of new directions as well, all coming up on… October 14th, 2008. ComicMix News. They finally got to the little comic they thought they couldn't kill.
It is the end of The Amazing Spider-Girl, at least according to what Tom DeFalco has confirmed on the internet. The last issue will be Amazing Spider-Girl number 30. However, the character is not gone. There are pretty strong indications that Spider-Girl will continue to be a regular feature in the Amazing Spider-Man Family book from Marvel as well. Another note is, this pretty much puts an end to the MC2 series, the future imagining of what the Marvel Comics universe would be like in the next generation. At series, it began from Marvel back in the 90s.
Tell Ray has announced they've acquired the comic book and graphic novel rights to The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Scropp. No creative team to be announced yet. The first issue of the monthly comic is planned for the late summer or the early fall of next year. If you'd like to go to Spike TV's Scream Awards and you live on the west coast, well, you have a chance to do it. Head to the San Diego Comic-Con website and you have a chance to pick up and win some free tickets to the Scream Awards there. Hi, this is Adam Hughes. I draw your favorite bimbo comic book covers and you're listening to ComicMix. ComicMix Radio. What's coming out this is This Week. This week where you diversify a little bit by looking at some of our best bets coming from other than the big two. Now, there's plenty of great stuff out there from DC and Marvel this week as well, but there's also some other interesting things.
And this could be the week you find that gem that you had no idea that existed. We'll talk about that on the way, but speaking of diversity, well, look at the top of the list. Diary of a Wimpy Kid the Do It Yourself book, finally out in comic book stores now, as well as bookstores from our buddy Jeff Kinney this week. Speaking of award-winning books for the entire All Ages group, Rassle No. 3 from Jeff Smith and Cartoon Books out this week. Comic Foundry magazine hangs in again with another issue dated for the fall of this year.
Then we moved to Dark Horse for the Aliens No Exit novel. And then our first best bet. Conan the Sumerian, a who knows barbarian types better than our own Tim Truman from ComicMix. Tim's been writing this. There's been some incredible artwork and some nice French outcovers as well. This is Conan the Sumerian No. 4. Great place for you to jump on and see what's been going on.
Also from Dark Horse, Predator novel, a volume of four, South China Sea. Star Wars Clone Wars No. 2 of a six issue series tying into this TV series. And Vampire Hunter D the novel. This is volume number 11. Pale Fallen Angels includes parts one and two in that Vampire D novel. Over to DC this week we get air number three, Batgirl No. 4 of a six issue run.
Batman R.I.P. spills over into Batman and the Outsiders No. 12. If you're collecting those very early Batman stories in the Chronicles series, here you go. Batman Chronicles, The Trade Paperback, Volume 6. There's Batman the Long Halloween Collector said really nice work in there, but you know that. Booster Gold hits No. 13 this week. There's Brave and Bold No. 18.
Casey Blue Beyond Tomorrow winds up its six issue series with No. 6. There's A Crossing Midnight Trade Paperback, Volume 3, Sword in the Soul. The DC Special Cyborg winds up its six issue series with No. 6 this week. DC Decisions comes along with No. 3. There's one more to go in that four issue run. Ex Machina, The Trade Paperback, Volume No. 7 in that series.
It hits this week as well. And Fables No. 77 too. Also this week, the best of all, the Final Crisis titles. Final Crisis, Legion of Three Worlds. Second issue of that from Geoff Johns. It'll be five issues when it's done. We also get Final Crisis, Rogue's Revenge No. 3, which winds up that one.
Speaking of the rogues, we got Flash No. 245, Greatest Hits No. 2, which is a six issue series. There's the JLA that was then. This is now Trade Paperback. And the Jonah Hex luck runs out Trade Paperback. Some great stories in there. We get Justice Society of America No. 19, which by the way does have a variant cover. There's Robin No. 179. We give the scalp the Trade Paperback third volume in that series called Dead Mothers.
There's Spirit No. 22 from Mark Evanier and Sergio Aragones. Stormwatch PhD No. 15 for the All Ages group. There's Super Friends No. 8. An unusual sort of tie-in here. Superman, Batman vs. Vampires and Werewolves. This will be a series that I believe exists sort of off-continuity or just to the left of it. It'll be six issues. You get the first issue of that this week.
And Superman's pal Jimmy Olsen's special No. 1 this week tied into some of the things we've talked about in the weeks past going on in the Superman universe. There's also a variant issue of this one as well. We get Titans No. 6. Of course there's another Trinity. This is Trinity No. 20. The Will Ives Your Spirit Archives, Volume 25, just about ready to wind up on that one from DC Comics. It's set for Halloween early from the guys at Devil Do with a Hack Slash Halloween special.
The first issue of that this week with a couple of different covers. Don't forget future issues of Hack Slash and the current continuity will not be sold in regular comic stores, at least for the next couple of issues. The Halloween franchise comes to Devil's Do with a mini-series that'll run three issues called The First Death of Laurie Stroud. This is issue No. 1 this week. And again, there are several different covers to choose from. Also the first official issue of Mercy Sparks, that's a three issue series with a couple of different covers.
And Spooks Omega Team No. 2, again with a couple of different covers from Devil's Do. A short list from Dynamic Forces, but an important one that brings us to our next best bet. Matt Wagner's retelling of the Zorro legend has been rolling along and things are heating up right now with issue No. 8. It's out this week. Great place to jump on in a really interesting book. From Thanographics, there's Comic Journal No. 293 and then we move to IDW for Speed Ratio of the Trade Paperbag Volume 6.
There's Doctor Who, The Forgotten No. 2, a pretty good issue of Doctor Who. But the one everybody's going to have their eyes on is the other Doctor issue this week and our other best bet. Fran Morrison's Doctor Who debuts this week with a first issue. Who knows what will happen in there, but it sure is worth a look. There's also the Dreeland Chronicles Trade Paperbag Volume 1 from IDW, Epilogue No. 2. Ghostbusters The Other Side begins a new series of that franchise.
And there's Star Trek Romulans The Hollow Crown No. 2, which winds up that two issue series. And to wind it up for IDW, there's Welcome to Hocksford No. 3. From Image, there's Charlotte and Ball No. 4. Dale Keown does a cover for Darkness No. 6, but there's a couple of different ones on that one as well. Check it out. There's Dynamo 5 No. 17, Hawaiian Dick No. 5, Hyperkinetic No. 3, which is a four issue miniseries.
Madman Atomic Comics No. 11 this week, PVP No. 41, and Roberts No. 2, which winds up a two issue series there. And finally, from Image Comics, the third printing variant of Savage Dragon No. 137, this is the Barack Obama cover. This tremendous week in the comic shop continues as we move to Marvel for Age of Century No. 2. That's that six issue series. Amazing Spider-Man has some interesting stuff this week. First of all, there's a second printing variant, it's No. 571. Spider-Man 573 comes out this week. There's a couple of different variants of that one, including the Stephen Colbert variant.
Good luck in grabbing that if you can. Annihilation Conquest The Trade Paperbag begins this week. That's the first of a series of those. There's Astonishing X-Men No. 27, Captain Britain, and the MI-13 No. 6, which has a zombie variant. There's also a variant of Deadpool No. 1, that's the second printing on that one. There's Full Killer White Angels No. 4, five issue run there from Marvel.
There's Ghost Rider 28, Guardians of the Galaxy No. 6, which is a secret invasion tie-in. Hulk Monster Size Special No. 1, there are two different covers to that. You should get equal amounts in your comic store, so choose carefully. Iron Man Director of Shield No. 34, which also is a secret invasion tie-in this week. For the all-ages crowd, Marvel Adventures Avengers No. 29 and Marvel Adventures The Avengers Digest No. 7, as well as Marvel Adventures 2 and 1 No. 16. There's Marvel Illustrated 3 Musketeers No. 5, one more to go in that six issue run.
Why The Avengers No. 19 this week, which is a secret invasion tie-in. And there's a couple of X-Men hard covers out this week, including Volume 7 of the X-Men hard cover series. And that has a variant to it as well, if you're lucky enough to grab it. There's Moon Knight No. 23, NYX No Way Home No. 3, that'll be six issues when it's done. Fun is your Max No. 63 this week. Secret invasion Frontline as well this week.
That's No. 4, it'll be five issues when it's done. Four issues was the run for Skrulls vs. Power Pack, and this is the final one, No. 4 of that this week. There's the Spider-Man trade paperback collecting brand new day, so if you're just getting into that, haven't been able to find some of the back issues, great place to jump on. Squadron Supreme 2 No. 4 comes along this week. There's Ultimate Origins No. 5, which winds that one up. And Uncanny X-Men No. 53, which is part of Manifest Destiny, and again, there's a sketch variant available for that one.
War is Hell, the first flight Phantom Eagle comes out this week in a premium hardcover collection. And there's X-Men Worlds Apart No. 1, that's a new mini-series. It'll be four issues when it's done. Manifest Destiny continues in Young X-Men No. 7 this week. There's also a variant on that one as well. And then from Wizard, WizardAnimeInsider No. 62 this week, and finally from Xenoscope, Grim Fairy Tales No. 31, and Grim Fairy Tales presents the Beauty and the Beast collection from Xenoscope. That's ScreamU here, that's your wallet.
A little economic stimulus, and we move right into the DVD section, and boy get ready for this one. Of course, Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Crystal Skull this week. That's on DVD, a couple of different packages, including one that includes all the indie movies. John Cusack's War Inc. comes to DVD this week, as well as a special edition of The New World. Lots of other special editions this week, but also on DVD is Eastern Promises, Shortcuts, Standard Operating Procedure, and Witness to the Mob. And then your specials, first of all a couple repackaging of some Alfred Hitchcock classics, including one multi-film one, and another that contains a beautiful version of Notorious.
Also this week, the 30th anniversary of Halloween, a special package for that. There's a Blu-ray version of Poltergeist, romancing the stone comes to DVD and Blu-ray this week. And Robert Downey's possible best performance of his career, not counting Iron Man, the film Chaplin this week, available in a special edition on DVD. Top of our list this week is Alien Predator, the total destruction collection this week, all repackaged on DVD. The TV on DVD selection this week begins with CSI, season number eight.
There's the entire series of That 70s Show, if you're an Ashton Kutcher fan. Also this week, Partridge Family season number three, Nash Bridges season number one. And then BBC retelling of Robin Hood, we've talked about before, this week, Adventures of Robin Hood, season two on DVD. ComicMix radio. ComicMix timeline, October 14th. 1977. $1 comics and the Treasury editions were a big part of what DC had to offer down at the drugstore these days.
This time we got the Treasury edition of Superman vs. Wonder Woman. That was all new too, by the way, not reprints. It was All Star Comics number 70, Brave and Bold number 139, and then we spent a buck for House of Mystery number 256. We got Our Fighting Forces number 177 with The Losers by Jack Kirby, and the Secret Society of Super Villains at issue number 12 this week, as did Superboy and the Legion, which came in at issue number 35. From Marvel this week, our bounty included Amazing Spider-Man number 176, Captain Marvel still plugged it along at issue number 54, there was the Champions number 17, Marvel's version of Godzilla at issue number 6, there was Howard the Duck number 20, and Iron Man number 106. 1977.
In the news, the Senate passed an energy bill that ignored most of the proposals made by President Jimmy Carter. Talks continued to bring parties closer to finishing the Panama Canal Treaty at last, and US industries were happy with the President's plan to slow the import of foreign products. In the movies, there was Valentino, The Lincoln Conspiracy, Walt Disney's Fantasia was remastered and back on the big screen, Roger Moore was James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me, and Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier were back together again in feats of the action. And this just in. I caught you smiling, one of the best of the cult classics in still funny these days, Kentucky Fried Movie.
TV Tonight episodes of Logan's Run, Wonder Woman, there was What Was Left of Samford and Son, repackaged as the Samford Arms, Quincy and… Another great TV gift from Jim Carner, Rockford Files. On the radio, the first male artist to have three consecutive number one singles on the Hot 100. This was the first one backed up by his brothers, Andy Gibb and… … Back in a couple of days with our spotlight pointed on another one of those cool new creators and independent comics that we love to share with you.
