we're gonna catch up on what's current and on the way as well and maybe even a little bit about the behind the scene story on the She-Hulk and those scrolls all that's coming up on October 16th 2008 ComicMix News Easily one of the most recognizable themes in and out of pop culture the theme for the Batman TV show the work of TV and movie composer Neil Hefty who died Saturday at age 85 at his home in California
Besides being the guy who gave us the phrase nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah The broadcasting company of MGM are producing the new 26 episode half hour series, Pink Panther and Pals, to be animated on the Cartoon Network and debut next fall, the fall of 2009. The new series has a teenage version of the feline, who of course is still pink, and will be along with some of the original characters from the old series, including Ant and the
Art Park. The upcoming Wizard World Texas is going to play host to a game show night mixing popular creators and fans together in a way that's never been done before. Talons like Ethan Van Schuyberg, Terry Moore, Sean McKeever and Moore will grab their pen and paper and fill in the blanks during a comic book version of the classic game show
The Match Game. Fans will have a chance to buy tickets, the money for which will go to a worthy cause, to play against these guys and to win some really cool prizes. Game show night at Wizard World Texas will be Saturday November the 8th in the Fear Fest room.
You can get tickets on site or get more information about it at WizardWorld.com. Wizard World Texas takes place on November 7th to the 9th at the Arlington Convention Center in Texas. And a game that's a little more accessible for everybody is a new Mad Men themed online version of Jeopardy.
The categories include everything from ad slogans to pop culture in the year 1962, which is pretty much where the second season of Mad Men is now taking place. He's known as the writer of stuff. A lot of stuff. Peter David is not only good, he's prolific as well with some really great books from a variety of different publishers all in comic stores right now. First of all, there's Fallen Angel, which migrated over from DC and is certainly attracting
a unique audience. Well, first off, I can tell you that Fallen Angel has a significant female readership. Women seem to love the Fallen Angel. I have to think that it's because, number one, she has a normal sized bust. Number two, her costume is fairly all concealing.
She smokes too much, she drinks too much, she curses too much, and she has lousy taste in men. For some reason, women find this extremely easy to identify with. There's a court of last resort in a city called Bet Noir that is essentially, think of New Orleans, if New Orleans were in the Twilight Zone.
Just in case you'd like to join in, there's a number of different ways to catch up on Fallen Angel. There are four trade collections, I believe, of the IDW run, not to mention an absolutely gorgeous hardcover edition of the first 13 issues. And over at Marvel, there's She-Hulk, which recently had a tie-in, of course, to Secret
Invasion. I have to tell you, this tie-in didn't seem forced at all. In fact, it just seemed like it all fit together very well. I had a feeling it was meant to be that way. Oh, well, it just seemed to be a natural fit because we have a character in the book who
is a Skrull. And the funny thing was, when I developed the notion of having her have a Skrull sidekick, I didn't even know about Secret Invasion yet. So if people ask, did I create Zinda to be She-Hulk's sidekick purely to take advantage of Secret Invasion, the answer is absolutely not.
If Secret Invasion had never happened, the character would have been exactly the same that she is. It just works out perfectly in terms of setting up what has to be the most inevitable conflict in the book, which is the eventual confrontation between Zinda and her father, the Super Skrull, which happens in the pages of the Secret Invasion tie-in.
So come on, this had to be in the works for a long time. It all comes, it really comes across like I actually know what I'm doing. I know, it's scary. I think I'm managing to fool people. One of my favorite things on Peter's resume is Babylon 5 and his work on that franchise
a few years back. I had to ask, is there any possibility of seeing that return to comics? Beats the hell out of me. I mean, go ask Joe Stryzinski. Well, I mean, if it depended who was publishing it.
I mean, if Marvel publishes Babylon 5, yeah, you bet I'm there. If it's IDW, we're going to have to finesse it. If it's DC, forget it. Okay, now that's a lot of stuff and there's more stuff on the way from Peter. And I am going to be doing a new book for IDW.
We have just closed a deal to do a limited series based upon my fantasy character, Sir Aperpoe of Nothing. And I think that is going to be a lot of fun. ComicMix radio. ComicMix timeline October 16th.
As we go down to the candy store, there was an issue of Brave and Bold. It was number 87, had a great piece of work by Mike Sakowski featuring Batman and of course the current incarnation of Wonder Woman. There was Challenges of the Unknown, number 71, Flash, number 193 with Captain Cold. Second issue from Beyond the Unknown, Justice League of America, number 77, where Snapper
Car Goes Bad. There was Metal Man, number 41 this week, of course, again also by Mike Sakowski. Our Army Award, number 213, and Showcase, number 87, which had Joe Cupid's fire hair. Over at Marvel, The Frightful Four reappeared again and Fantastic Four, number 94. Amazing Spider-Man, number 80, had The Chameleon.
There was Hulk, number 123, Iron Man, number 21. Sergeant Fury came along with number 73. It was almost the end of the run for Silver Surfer. We were up to issue number 12 of this one, still with beautiful artwork by John Buscema. And we got the first issues of The Ringo Kid and Where Monsters Dwell.
In addition to that, Charlton Comics was the keeper of the Flash Gordon franchise at this point and they gave us Flash Gordon, number 18. 1969. In the news, the Soviet spacecraft Soyuz 2 returned to Earth, carrying two Russian cosmonauts to a safe soft landing.
Battlefield deaths in Vietnam were the lowest level in weeks and the New York Mets were poised to beat the Baltimore Orioles and take the year's World Series. In the movies, there was the Rain People, the Sergeant, the easy rider was rolling across the screen. The switch cast heading to Sundance Kid and a film that even goes beyond the term called
Classic. If you can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant. Almost a signature for that day, it was Arlo Guthrie at Alice's Restaurant. TV tonight, episodes of Ghost and Mrs. Muir, The Jim Neighbors Show. This is Tom Jones, Raymond Burr in Ironside and in my opinion, one of the best for the
resume of Robert Wagner. Oh, look, y'all, I'm not asking you to spy. Just ask me to steal. At least three good seasons in the run for It Takes a Thief. On the radio, a young lady who lost her first big acting role in New York City to Barbra
Streisand. Don't feel too bad though, it was a long after that that she got on stage on her own with some friends in a group called the Mamas and the Papas. 1969. At this point, she was headed toward a solo career and this song kind of fits right in
there. Make Your Own Kind of Music and Mama Cass Elliot. Make Your Own Kind of Music, even if nobody else sings along. Back on the weekend with a visit from the guy who just about a decade ago pretty much owned a big chunk of adventure television.
