Hey there, Matt Raub back again as Mike is on assignment. And in minutes we are going to make a return visit to Zuda Comics, DC's online experiment, and meet two more winning creators. That's all coming up on December 6th, 2008. ComicMix News. Apple has announced that The Dark Knight is the best-selling movie download of 2008,
even though the movie won't actually be released on Apple's iTunes store until December 9th. Pre-orders for The Dark Knight have been so strong that it has now taken in more money than Pixar's WALL-E, which has been bumped to second place. Kung Fu Panda is now in third place, followed by Iron Man and National Treasure II Book of Secrets. Right Now.
The professional how-to magazine on writing for comics, animation and sci-fi concludes its six-year run with Tomorrow's Publishing this February. The final issue, number 20, Shipping in late February, features a focus on the upcoming Spirit movie, showing how Frank Miller translated Will Eisner's comics to the big screen through interviews with key players behind the making of the movie
and a look at what made Eisner's comics so special from a writing standpoint. Back issues of right now are still available from Tomorrow's Publishing website at www.twomorrows.com in both print and digital form. New York Comic-Con has announced that it will continue its tradition of honoring selected living legends of the industry. This year, Al Plastino will be joined by Joe Sinnet and Marv Wolfman as New York Comic-Con living legends.
All three legends will participate in the convention festivities, making limited appearances including special panel discussions and autograph sessions. Further details about their activities at New York Comic-Con will be made in the near future and listed on their show's website, nycomicon.com. AOL has recently launched playsavvy.com, a new site designed to help parents of kids and teens from 5 to 17
to make sense of PC and console games. The site also aims to keep parents up to date about the various entertainment options out there for their kids to help them make an informed decision. Playsavvy joins the similarly themed parentdish.com, launched by AOL earlier this year. CBS has given the drama the 11th hour an extension of five more episodes, making it a smaller full season longer.
Meanwhile, ABC is retooling its mid-season schedule on Monday's Castle, starring Nathan Fillion, and from ABC Studios, will debut at 10pm coming up on March 9th. For Tuesday's Primetime, What Would You Do? debuts January 6th, followed by Cupid, which will take the time slot beginning March 24th. And on Wednesdays, ABC will continue with Life on Mars in January, followed by The Inusuals beginning April 8th. The CW has announced plans to bring back Reaper for a 13 episode second season following 90210 Tuesday nights beginning March 17th.
And over at NBC, a new hour-long office snags the coveted spot immediately following Super Bowl XLIII on February 1st at 10.30. Starting on February 2nd, NBC will air a 3D episode of Chuck at 8pm, followed by a new volume of Heroes at 9 and Medium at 10. The season finale of the Frost Drama Night Rider is slated for February 25th and is also the last time we will see cast members Bruce Davison and Sidney Poitier. ER will bow out with the 2-hour series finale in March, and the highly anticipated 2-hour series premiere of Kings airs March 19th at 9pm. The Sci-Fi channel has approved production on the new original series Caprica, the prequel to Battlestar Galactica.
Sci-Fi ordered 20 hours of Caprica, including a 2-hour pilot. Production will begin next summer with a 2010 premiere. Meanwhile, ABC has greenlit the drama pilot Flash Forward from David S. Goyer. Described as a possible companion for the series Lost, Flash Forward is based on the sci-fi novel by Robert J. Sawyer about the mayhem ensuing after the world blackouts out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds accompanied by strange visions of the future. The Holiday Yule Log is back via in-demand networks. Subscribers can tune into the televised log as well as two new offerings, Wintergreen and Snowman, beginning December 8th through the end of the month.
In-demand has jazzed up the Yule Log, which originated in 1966, by producing a high-def version with crackling sound effects. The log is accompanied by holiday music and is available free to customers. Meanwhile, WGN America will air Yule Log the Golden Age of Christmas, over 9 hours beginning December 24th at 9pm through 6am on Christmas Day. The Yule Log footage uses the fireplace of Colonel McCormick, the former Tribune Company President and Editor-Publisher of the Chicago Tribune, from his office at Tribune Tower in Chicago. The commercial free holiday special will present classic radio programs such as It's a Wonderful Life, Burns & Allen, Fiver McGee & Molly and much, much more.
Comic Foundry magazine has announced that the magazine's fifth issue, which is due out of the New York Comic Con in February, will be its last. Publisher Tim Leong cited a lack of time rather than financial considerations as the reason he is shutting down production of the magazine. Mongoose Publishing has announced a new Judge Dredd role-playing game, which will be based on Traveler Rules. The full-color, hardback Judge Dredd RPG rulebook will be out next summer and will be followed by a companion book and a complete source book on the Justice Department. Mongoose is also planning a new Judge Dredd miniatures game based on the original Gangs of Mega City 1 game, but with a much larger scope.
Black Cherry Bombshells is another one of the webcomics that had the honor of being a winner at DC's ZUDA Comics online competition. Like other amazing projects such as High Moon, Black Cherry Bombshells is now a weekly feature at ZUDA with new installments posted every seven days. So what are the Black Cherry Bombshells? Well, no one can explain it better than co-creators John Zito and Anthony Trovarella. The Black Cherry Bombshells is about ultra-violent girl gangs fighting for survival in a world full of zombies. All the men on Earth have been turned into zombies. The women survive by joining gangs like the Warriors. Everybody's got a themed gang.
And they beat up on each other looking for resources for survival and whatnot. And our lead characters are the Black Cherry Bombshells. They're a bunch of bootleggers in Las Vegas. And they're just trying to make their way in the world. And they come up against the crime lord in Vegas, a woman they call the King, who is a female Elvis impersonator. And she is a ruthless ninja. And she holds the whole city on lockdown.
But the Black Cherry Bombshells, you know, they're the young and up and coming strapping warriors. And they're going to show her what's what and then take over. That's their plan at least. Now where exactly did the idea come from? Lots of nights at the bar. Lots of the bar.

And on TV tonight were episodes of Flip Wilson, Toma, Ironside, Kung Fu and the annual broadcast of a holiday classic.
