Hello, it's Mike Raub. Welcome to The Point where all parts of pop culture come together. It's Monday and we've got questions. Who's going to be Spider-Man on the big screen? What is your best-selling comic book in the stores? And is your favorite TV show just about ready to be canceled? Stand by. We've got the answers. It's Monday, April 12, 2010. We get to The Point right now.
This is The Point, The Point radio, get The Point radio. The recipe for an internet rumor is an interesting one. First, you take a property that's out there that maybe everybody really wants to see revived, like a Ghostbusters, for example. And then you take an actress like Alyssa Milano who seems willing to take on all the most interesting roles no matter where they may be found. Put those two together and there
you go. Alyssa Milano appearing in Ghostbusters 3. Not necessarily true, according to Alyssa. Yeah, I mean, I don't even know where that rumor started. I guess someone said something in an interview, but I was never approached. I don't even know if there's a script out there yet. So I can't really comment because I really don't know much about it. But I was never personally approached or my people were not approached.
Now, to be fair, there was one little speck of truth in all of this. Alyssa was involved in voicing part of the Ghostbusters game and she is a fan. I love Ghostbusters growing up. And I got to work with Annie Potts recently. And, you know, she was so incredible in that movie. The experience during the game was really odd because, you know, you're alone in a room, in a sound room and you have the microphone
and then they just sort of describe the action stuff that you're supposed to then, you know, grunt and make, make noises. So it's a lot of like running around going, which felt really silly. But the game is fun. I've played it and it was a good experience. So let's squash a couple of other rumors while we're at it. For example, how about all those great reunion shows? Someone with a career as long and as varied as Alyssa has had on
television seems pretty ripe for, well, a new Who's the Boss or maybe even a Charmed Revival. Oh, no, I don't think I'd ever want to go back and do. I mean, you know, if there were a Charmed reunion, I'd definitely be a part of that because I did really love Phoebe. I thought that she was fun and had a great sense of humor about life and, you know, demons and all the ridiculous situations that they were put in every week. So I guess that
would be the one that would stand out. Plus, it was such a big part of my life. All right. So what would she like to do? What kind of role would Alyssa like to take on that she really hasn't had a chance to do so far? There's not a specific character that comes to mind, but I do like playing. I like playing flawed people like real people that have sort of, you know, issues. And I love a comedic
approach to those issues. Alyssa Milano returns to network television and romantically challenged Mondays on ABC. It's Monday, April 12th, 2010. Here's what's going on in pop culture. It's right down to the wire for the box office over the weekend. Date night with Tina Fey and Steve Carell, number one, but barely with twenty seven point one million dollars. Just a tad behind it. Clash of the Titans
with twenty six point nine million and still not that far away from that. How to Train Your Dragon at number three with twenty five point four million each weekend day. There was a different movie at the top of the list. Date night was the new release this weekend and pretty much did well over expectations for the film. Final numbers will come out early this week. In the meanwhile, as you look at the top ten for the week, well, the other new release, the runaways, which went
into wide release this week, only picked up four hundred and seventy thousand dollars, not even near the top ten. In the top ten, though, Letters to God, the other new release this week came in at one point two million dollars. Also in the top ten, Alice in Wonderland did well with another five point six million, bringing it to just under three hundred and twenty million dollars total so far. And Diary of a Wimpy Kid also picked up another four million, bringing its total to just
under fifty four million dollars. The latest movement from comics to movies involves one of the hottest properties of the 90s, Danger Girl, which now looks like it's going to the big screen thanks to producers Adrian Asquererra and Daniel Alter, both who have been involved in Hitman and Hack Slash, other comic properties. The Wildstorm comic done in the 90s by J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hardinall was about super hot looking secret agents, so it should adapt pretty well.
Right now Todd Lincoln, who most recently did the operation for Warner Brothers, is going to be the executive producer and the director of the film. Start your casting choices right now. All right, admit it, we're all just rabid for anything kickass, especially this week. And now there's a music video out, which not necessarily ties into the movie, but still it kind of does. You'll know what we're talking about when you see it. We posted it up on our website, GetThePointRadio.com. We can

As San Diego Comic Con gets closer, there's more news about Marvel Man, which makes sense. It was last year that Marvel announced their plans to revive that character and not long after that plans to pre-produce some of the really cool Marvel Man strips from the 50s and the 60s. Now it seems only natural there'd be a Marvel Man
action figure. Hasbro is doing the toy, look for some exclusives only for San Diego, of course, and we should be able to see some previews online very soon. The revival of Marvel's 60s title, SHIELD, is doing pretty well. In fact, the first issue has sold out and now there's a second printing variant on the way in a few weeks from Marvel. Jonathan Hickman, who by the way has recently been handed an Eisner nomination for some of his work in other areas, along with artist
Dustin Weaver, did the first issue. The second printing variant features some other Weaver artwork on a brand new cover as well. The SHIELD second printing variant of issue one hits stores early in May. So one of the hottest things in Hollywood right now is a movie tracking system that pretty much generates information about the interest level for any upcoming movie so that people can figure out exactly what the box office will be before anybody actually buys a first
ticket. Here's the very latest on Iron Man 2. Right now interest levels are pretty high, in fact, the highest ever, and it looks like it'll possibly beat Dark Knight's record-winning over the weekend. It did of 158 million dollars when it hit theaters. The advance interest, they say, is pretty much involving all demographics. The only really soft spot are teen girls. Not many of them are interested in the movie, but still may have to go along anyway. The first Iron Man film had a 98 million
dollar opening weekend, ended up with 318 million dollars worldwide. There's a feeling that Iron Man 2 will definitely be bigger, but by how much? Well, the one thing Marvel's able to do is to get people talking, at least from their own fan base, and they sure are talking this weekend about the addition of Spider-Man to the X-Men. The new campaign, We Are the X-Men, not unlike I Am an Avenger, that ran just a couple of months ago building into the first New Avengers series by Brian Bendis,
has a number of different characters out so far as joining the X-Men, one being Psylocke, which makes some sense, but the latest involving Peter Parker. An X-Men? Well, more to come in the next couple of weeks. They'll continue to release images until the final lineup is revealed, more than likely sometime by around the 1st of May. According to the folks at Hit Fix, it looks like Logan Lehrmud is Sony's choice to be the new Spider-Man. Logan, of course, best known for his
recent role in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Lightning Thief, this could be a big jump for his career in the Mark Webb reboot of Spider-Man, which by the way now has a working title of Spider-Man Begin Again. Once the cast is set, cameras will start rolling. There's a July 3, 2012 release date already set by Sony. Seems like it's pretty official that Sam Mendes is off the Preacher Project. Mendes moving on to do the next Bond film and producer Neil Moritz is indicating that perhaps
the person who wrote the screenplay, John August, might be the guy they'd give the director's job to. August wrote a script that Neil said is absolutely terrific and we're quoting there. According to several sources, August's script is very faithful to the Garth Innes Steve Dillon book that was a star in the early days of DC's Vertigo line. All right, here's the very latest for the On the Bubble list, the shows that may or may not make
it beyond the end of this television season and the ones that well if you're really that dedicated to, you can grab your pen, paper, or laptop and start writing letters to the network. On ABC, it pretty much looks like Better Off Ted not gonna make it. Things also don't look good for the D-Pen. When it comes down to Flash Forward and V, right now V could actually go either way and Flash Forward not looking that good at all. Over on CBS, accidentally on purpose, also on the
edge, could go either way there. On Fox, Glee's already renewed just like Fringe, so those are at least off the list, but right now Human Target seems to be in danger and could go either way. Past Life officially canceled, no help for that one at all. And Bones is officially been renewed. In B.C., well, Heroes could go either way, but Parenthood seems to be safe with all the renewal coming at any particular moment for that show. Community finally officially renewed,
but Chuck, again another one of those shows that are just on the edge and could go either way. Over on The CW, Life Unexpected, again it's on the edge as well, but Smallville, Supernatural, and Vampire Diaries all officially renewed. that whole deal. And again, what's going to be affecting the DC universe for the next few months. The Flash begins another run at DC with a new first issue this week that deserves a look. And one of the eyes are nominated titles that you may have avoided for a while. Now you really should probably take a moment to page through. It's Chu from Image Comics. Issue
number 10 hits this week. There's a number of different great places to jump on, including some trade paperbacks as well to see what all the talk is about. Also this week, a number of siege titles from Marvel. And the most interesting is Siege Captain America number one. But you can page through the whole section. There's about four new wins this week.
