Hello, it's Mike Raub. Welcome to The Point where all parts of pop culture come together. While Psych is back on the USA Network for a handful of cool episodes, I will tell you what's coming up. We got the news right here from the cast. In the meantime, some good news in the comic shops for a change. And are you ready for Jed Bartlett as Uncle Ben? It's Friday, November 12, 2010. Let's get to The Point right now.

This is The Point, The Point radio, get The Point radio. Psych is back for another half season that includes a Christmas episode, a tribute to Twin Peaks, and the return of the guy's worst nemesis. And series star James Roday says well after five and a half seasons, it's been a wild ride so far. One of the most fun I've had acting on our show is season two when we did the Spanish

telenovela. It was just ridiculous. It was just a pure ridiculous night from beginning to end in two languages. Not acting I would say. I had a lot of fun doing Tuesday the 17th just because for me it was like I'm a huge horror film fan. In fact, if people let me go off and shoot a 44 minute slasher movie and call it psych was pretty awesome. And last year the end episode I'm also a big Hitchcock fan. Again, it's just getting away with stuff

is a lot of fun. Inspirations from comedy? Well James has got a whole list of those. Yeah, I grew up sort of loving Eddie Murphy, loving Chevy Chase, loving Steve Martin. And then when I was 10 I saw Real Genius and it took it to a whole different level. I thought that character that Val Kilmer played in that movie to me was like the most iconic I want to be that guy sort of character that I think I've ever had. I haven't had that experience

since. Probably helped that I was a child. But that was certainly the inspiration for this character. Sure. James's character, Sean Spencer, has a rather unique relationship with his father played by Corbin Berenson. And in the case of Sean versus Henry, well, expect a lot more of that this season. It's been interesting because you know Henry doesn't let him get away with anything. He's making him work a lot harder to get jobs. And then

once he's on the job, it's like he's got someone looking over his shoulder constantly, which he's not used to. So that conflict that kind of helped drive the first couple of seasons of our show is back. I'm actually really glad that it's back because I kind of thought it was something that was really good for the show that we got away from for a while. And it's good to have that sort of antagonistic energy between father and son. While it's

been curved a little, these guys still have some major beef with each other. And it's a lot more present this season. James has stepped in to write and co-direct a few episodes over the past five and a half seasons. There's more than to come as the writers get together to well, as he says, raise the bar once again. Yeah, it's kind of been like the blind leading the blind. There's a bunch of comedy writers in there going, well, you know, it's another

season we should probably try to raise the bar somehow. And you know, we definitely take swings and we take big swings. And I think if anything, you know, whether they're episodes that people think aren't quite right or when we try to do stuff different, it feels weird. The one thing, you know, hopefully everyone can acknowledge is we're certainly, you know, we're certainly taking big, big swings. And if we go down, we're going to go down trying

something different. And it's also good. It's good for the cast. It's good for the writers. It helps everybody sort of flex their muscles and stay engaged to try and go outside the lines a couple of times a season. We all kind of know what the heart and soul of Psyche is. And we know that we need to do, you know, at least a dozen of those a season. But then what we do outside of that, I think is what's starting to define, you know, the present

and the future of our show. We got more with James and the cast of Psyche coming up, including what's going to happen for the end. All that on the way in a couple of days right here. It's Friday, November 12th, 2010. Here's what's going on in pop culture. Well, I don't know about you, but this makes me feel just a little old. Martin Sheen is stepping into the Cliff Robertson role as Peter Parker's Uncle Ben and the Spider-Man reboot that according to

Deadline Hollywood. But here's the old part. It looks like there's serious talks with Sally Field to become Aunt May. Again, that's according to Dateline Hollywood all about the course, the new Spider-Man reboot movie, which stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy as well. Screenplay by James Vanderbilt. And of course a production that will hopefully be in theaters sometime in 2012. Disney is planning to spread the Tron

around once the film gets into theaters. The next step is a new animated series that will premiere on Disney XD in 2012. It's being directed by Charles Bean who did Samurai Jack and the voice cast. That's pretty cool too. It includes Bruce Box Lightner, Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, Paul Rubens and more. Tron the movie of course opens in theaters in just about a month. NBC has not given a full season order to the series under covers, which does

not bode very well for that at all. More than likely this will be the end of that in a few weeks. In the meantime, Chase has got a full order for this season and Community, which had ordered for 22 episodes, is now going to go to 24 episodes this season. A vote of confidence based on some great ratings jumps the past couple of weeks where NBC actually overtook CBS in a couple of time periods on Thursday night. There's a new webcomic that's

based on the new TNT TV series produced by Steven Spielberg. Falling Skies is a follow-up to the comic it was given away at recent conventions including the New York Comic Con and it details events that lead up to the beginning on the TV show as well. The show itself premieres in June of next year. In the meantime you can get the webcomic right now on the TNT website TNT.TV. Get ready for Batman on the Road. Warner Brothers has now announced a

new Batman Live touring show. It kicks off next July in the UK and Ireland with 54 dates there then moves on to Europe. Finally we get it in North America during the summer of 2012. It has everybody you'd expect in the storyline including Batman, Robin, Alfred, the Joker, the Riddler, Catwoman and the Penguin. There's Gotham City, Wayne Manor, the Batcave, Arkham Asylum and a lot more. Lots of stunts, lots of pyrotechnics, illusions

and of course a lot of video screen sequences as well. And again it kicks off in Europe next summer. Two episodes down of The Walking Dead and get ready for season two. AMC has renewed The Walking Dead for 13 more episodes. The first season of course was only for six. The show lost a mere 10% of its viewers between the first and second episodes which is really great for television, even cable television for sure. The first episode drew more viewers than any other show on the AMC

network. 8.1 million people watched it then. It's been out there for a while now variety confirms that it's true Johnny Depp will star in a revival of Dark Shadows headed to the big screen said to pretty in production next year. It'll be directed by his longtime collaborator Tim Burton. He will play Barnabas based on the vampire character from the ABC soap opera that ran from 1966 to 1971. Here's a good start for your Christmas shopping list. Amazon has and now

released a list of their choices for the 10 best graphic novels of 2010 as well. chosen by Amazon's editors the list begins with Wednesday comics from DC the compilation of that weekly series. Picture this the nearsighted Monkey Book by Linda Barry, the Acme novelty library number 20 by drawn it quarterly the ninth Hellboy volume from Dark Horse 40 the Doonesbury retrospective is on the list King of the Flies from Fantagraphics, exed out by Charles Burns Market Day by James Strum,

Batman Elegy by Greg Rucka in DC and the art of Jamie Hernandez the secrets of life and death from Abrams all those considered to be the 10 best of the year for the folks at Amazon. There's a much better October for comics and graphic novels. Comic stores sales were reported to be up about 2.77 percent when you compare October this year to October last as far as graphic novels go. Comic sales down just a little bit about 1.7 percent over the time and year to date

comics and graphic novel sales down about 4.74 percent in 2010 versus 2009. Coming up in a bit we'll give you the top graphic novel sales for October and the top comic sales in stores too as well stick around. This is my gold. Do you smoke cigarettes? Pissed off that some people are still using the substance that is dangerous but totally legal for adults. The Food and Drug Administration is proposing new warning labels. Well they're not actually labels since they occupy the top half of both sides of each cigarette pack. This space would be occupied by photos of rotting teeth and diseased lungs and well you know the stuff they showed you in school. These holier than thou fools think smokers don't know this stuff.

Smoking is a decision and you just can't say it's not an informed decision. It's also legal as long as you don't smoke near other human beings and you're an adult. For the record I do not smoke cigarettes and that is my choice. Elitist asses who think they're smarter than smokers made a dangerous decision as well. They decided to be elitist asses. numbers for comics that sold in comic stores according to Diamond Comics distribution down about 1.77% when compared to October of last year which is the smallest decrease so far this year in comic sales. We begin on the list at number 20 with Green Lantern Emerald Warriors from DC number three. At number 19 on the list Thor number 616 number 18 Amazing Spider-Man 645. Bruce Wayne the Road Home Batman and Robin number one at number 17. Another Amazing Spider-Man this

time issue 646 is at number 16 on the list. Justice League of America number 50 checks into number 15 Green Lantern Corps number 53 next at number 14. Ever 13 Uncanny X-Men 529 number 12 the second issue of Wolverine. That was the number one best-selling book last month by the way from Marvel. Number 11 X-Men number four number 10 kick-ass two number one from Marvel. At number nine Secret Avengers number six and the Avengers keep on coming to number eight. Avengers number six and

number seven New Avengers number five. Batman and Robin number 15 breaks the chain at number six then Green Lantern number 58 comes in at number five. Brightest Day number 12 is at number four followed by Brightest Day number 11 from DC at number three on the list. At number two Batman Return of Bruce Wayne number five and the number one best-selling book in comic stores in October from Marvel Uncanny X-Force number one.
