Hello, it's Mike Raub. Welcome to The Point where all parts of pop culture come together. More with the cast of Psych and a little bit of news about what's going to happen when the end finally comes. In the meantime, JMS takes a break in DC and six, yes, six girls for Batman. It's Monday, November the 15th, 2010. Let's get to The Point right now. One of the great parts of marketing the USA series Psych has been the decision of the network to create Psych-outs. Little webisodes, some of which turn up at the end of the show, actually during the credits, and some of which are done exclusively for the web. Some of these are planned, scripted, and well put together with some thought and care and others. I don't know what they always have bloopers or stuff that they can throw up, but we like

the musical Psych-outs, but we like them to be good. We don't like to have to do them, because I feel like when they give us a list of songs and say go do all these, they lose some of the sort of spark and some of the magic that makes them Psych-outs. But it feels right and we actually have an inspired idea. We'll sing. Otherwise, I think it's better to just show us screwing up our lives. Unlike James Roday, co-star Dule Hill came

to Psych from a different television background. The serious and stoic seasons of West Wing is where we first got introduced to him, and it's a whole different world on Psych. The hardest part for me was working, not dealing, but working with Roday and Steve Franks, how they do a lot of improv. Coming from the West Wing was what was written was what was said. The writing was that great, man. I saw it from this phenomenon. When I first came to Psych

and Roday started just going off dialogue, I mean going off what was in the script, I'll be like, dude, what are you doing? The script says, yes, I can. I don't know what you're talking about, trucks and cars and fishes and things like that. So I mean that was something for me to learn, but it was a muscle I wanted to work on anyway, so I was glad to be able to do it. But no, I don't think the transition would be that hard. I did a play like two

seasons ago in the off season, just to kind of work on the dramatic stuff back in New York. And I love drama. So it would surprise me if after Psych you seem to go back to the original. Right now we're into season 5.5, a group of new episodes running right now on the USA Network, one of which will feature the return of one of Psych's greatest villains, that Ali Sheedy playing Ying, the character that series star Maggie Lawson said she liked

to have a crack at if the writers would let her. I would love it if Julia took her down. I'm not sure him down her down. Who is it? It. I'm speaking of Yang, but it's. Never know. So five and a half seasons is a good run, and I'm sure there's going to be six and probably a six and a half too. But what lies beyond that? When will creators Steve Franks finally put it in to Psych? Well, James Roday has a thought on that. I would

think Steve has something in his mind since we're closer to the end than we are at the beginning. Here's what's going on in pop culture. The critics have plenty of opportunity to play upon the title Unstoppable because the film didn't do it, at least when it

came to stopping Megamind from being the number one movie of the weekend. The animated comedy drew an estimated $30 million over the weekend, making it the number one film of the weekend. Unstoppable mustard and estimated $23.5 million to make it number two on the list. From there on down, due date came in at number three. Two new movies debuted at four and five. Skyline was at number four with about 11.6 million. And Morning Glory came in with a $12.2 million over the weekend.

In and out of the top 10 for other familiar titles. Well, Red is still in there at number seven. Total of almost 80 million so far for that movie. Paranormal Activity is at 82 million and still at number eight in the top 10. Saw 3D is still there too as well. It's taken in about 43 million so far. And as you slide on down through the top 20 as well, Hereafter is still out there with a total of $31.4 million. It comes in at number 13 this week. Everybody's anxious

about new rumors, any kind of rumors for what's going to be happening in the Dark Knight Rises. And there's a few out there right now. Main interest is of course in casting. There's six actresses that are up for two allegedly female leads in the film. One being the Bruce Wayne love interest and the other a villain who's yet to be named. For those two parts, there are six names being run around Hollywood that includes Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman,

Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley. Nothing solid on any of those for sure and certainly not solid as to who the villain will be. Right now the only things we know for sure Christian Bale will be Batman. Tom Hardy from Inception is also in the cast as an unnamed villain. And the Dark Knight Rises premieres in theaters in July of 2012. One of the most revered conventions around the country and especially in the Midwest is the Mid-Ohio Comic Con. And now it's a wizard property. Wizard

World is confirmed that they will be purchasing Mid-Ohio Comic Con and the first Wizard World Mid-Ohio Con is set for 2011 October 22nd and 23rd that year. Allegedly headline guests include Rob Liefeld, Adam West and Burt Ward. By the way if you're counting that makes a total of 16 different conventions that Wizard has taken under their umbrella. If you're a fan of NBC's Friday Night Lights and you're wondering if you're ever going to decide to sit down and watch an episode of the

event, well here's a way to kill both those questions. It looks like Connie Britton might be making a move. From the series is wrapping up over to the series and well at least is going to be on the network for the rest of this season. Now the Lights is pretty much wrapped up and the final episodes airing on NBC Britton may well join the event and her part would probably begin sometime after the holiday break. AMC has put a nail in the coffin of Rubicon canceling that series but

don't feel bad there's a couple of new things that might be added to the network to pair up with the incredibly successful Walking Dead, one of which may be a new pilot called Hell on Wheels that takes place back in the 1860s with a Confederate soldier and a quest for vengeance and the building of the first transcontinental railroad all jammed together in one plot. No word yet as to whether this pilot will make it on but right now rumor is that the AMC executives pretty much love it. Garth Ennis

makes a move in some capacity to Dynamite Entertainment with a new series called Jennifer Blood. The series which premieres in February concerns an ordinary woman who's a wife and a mother by day and a deadly vigilante by night. The series will feature some covers by the way by Tim Bradstreet you can catch a preview of Jennifer Blood in The Boys number 49 and 50 as well as other Dynamite titles which will be available in stores during the month of November. Now that

sci-fi has officially put that into Caprica there's some worried out there about where we're going to see those final five episodes. Well your first chance is going to be in the DVD release of season 1.5. The set is due out coming up just in time for Christmas on December 21st. There's also a lot of other extras in there including a season one recap, some video blogs and a lot more. Retail price will be about 50 bucks. Sci-fi is expected to air the episodes at some point but it's not

scheduled them to date so this may be if not your only chance your first chance to catch those last five episodes. It'll be at least 500 or more episodes for The Simpsons. Fox has renewed the series for another season which will take it all the way to episode 515 during the 2011-2012 TV season and makes Simpsons the third largest running show of all time right behind Gunsmoke which had 635 and Lassie which had 588. Just when we were getting used to it, J. Michael Straczynski

is off to monthly comics at DC particularly Superman and Wonder Woman. They're going to say that he's devoting his efforts to graphic novels and limited series at least that's the word from DC Comics. This which is going to occur with Superman number 707 and Wonder Woman number 605. That'll be a fairly soon to be released issue of Wonder Woman. The Superman 707 probably not until around the first of the year so right away Straczynski's working on a sequel to the sold out

number one bestseller Superman Earth One by the way. Chris Robertson will take over scripting on Superman. Phil Hester picks up the same chores on Wonder Woman. This is my gold. So after all the hoopla and whoopdy doo, how is Conan O'Brien doing? Ah, not as well as you might think. He did great the first night, but he lost one third of his audience 24 hours later. When viewers tuned in, we saw the old Conan,

not the tits to the wind guy from the last couple weeks on the Tonight Show. That's disappointing. We wanted to see Conan without the restraints of broadcast television and we didn't get that. Sure, Conan beat the hallowed John Stewart, but the Daily Show was in reruns last week. Let's see what happens this week. As Comcast completes its purchase of NBC Universal, the old guard at the Peacock Network

is slowly being put out to pasture. Conan really only has to do well against one program, the Tonight Show. If the new Comcast NBC regrets the old guard's decision to protect the franchise, the Tonight Show might become history after a mere 57 years on the air. And Jay Leno might go down as the man who killed America's longest-running entertainment show. This is Mike Gold on the pop culture channel GetThePointRadio.com.

All bundled up and into the comic stores we go this week for some cherry and warm things to pick up on our list of five things you need to at least look at while you're there. It begins with a new Batman series and there's a bunch of these are going to be coming along over the next few months. This one seems to be one of the more interesting concepts. Batman Incorporated begins this week from DC. Also from DC, the DC Universe Legacies book is up to issue number seven and it's

10 issue run. If you haven't caught any of this, it is a total retelling, reimagining, and rebooting, figure another word or two in there if you want to, of the DC Universe. Basically it's taking all the pieces that have been spread out over the past 10 or 15 years and kind of putting them back in order at least for a while until someone spreads them all out again. But it sure has been interesting and it's well worth a look, especially now that it's up to more of the more modern telling of the

DC Universe. These events here involve things in the DC timeline over the past couple of years, so they're pretty fresh in your memory. A few months ago, the Phantom moved over to Dynamic Forces from Moonstone and rather than rehash some of the old things, they've almost taken the concept right back to the beginning with a series called The Last Phantom. It's had some work in it done by Alex Ross, as a lot of books from Dynamic Forces do. It's up to issue three and numbers one

and two should be easy to find if you know anything at all about the Phantom Universe and the legacy of the character. Well, this is a pretty interesting turn on it. Who doesn't love a good Christmas comic book story? Well, all the great ones are collected in the great treasury of Christmas comic book stories, a beautiful hardcover by the people who sure know how to do it right. IDW, that's out this week. And finally, another familiar character with one more shot on the

stands, that Spider-Girl with a new issue of that. It begins with number one this week for Marvel Comics. Check these out in comic stores all over America. Wherever you are, you never know where you might find a new one.
