Hello, it's Mike Raub and welcome to The Point where all parts of pop culture come together. We've got more with Children's Hospital's Rob Corddry and exactly how he came up with this idea. And did you ever imagine what it was like to be leaving a reality show? We talked to one of the contestants on The Glee Project on the way out the door.

It's Friday the 24th of June 2011. Let's get to The Point right now. This is The Point, The Point radio, get The Point radio. Man behind the clown makeup and behind the overall idea on Children's Hospital is comedian Rob Corddry who actually came up with the idea of this series in a kind of unusual way.

I dislocated my daughter's shoulder. I think both me and my wife did it. We were picking her up by her arms and swinging her and we had to take her to Children's Hospital and it was the least funny place I've ever been in my life and somehow the idea was born of that.

Most of the faces you see on Children's Hospital have one connection. That connection is Rob. If you notice, like everybody that's on the show I've worked with in some capacity before. And yeah, like I definitely like, I still do it. I kind of amass a farm team of people to use when appropriate and I'm still doing it.

I just worked with Alicia Silverstone in a movie and she's doing a run on the next season of Children's Hospital. Like, it's one of the best parts of the job. And soon I'm going to have enough people to have an actual softball team. So we're hoping to join the league.

So how much of the show is improv? Definitely this show is at its core a sketch show. But it's very loose. The web series more so. For the TV show we actually had to write at least the illusion of plot and character

development. But yes, I also believe that people that are really funny and are good at improv can do anything. And they're the best dramatic actors as well. Rob's character, Dr. Blake Downs, is a doctor in clown makeup which in itself is frightening

and that pretty much carries over into the show. Well essentially that, the first time you see him on the web series you hear a child screaming and a child pees when they see him. But mostly I was like, I wanted to write a clown that wasn't the least bit funny. Because I really believe that clowns are the least funny people in the comedy.

You know, like, they treat themselves so seriously. And drive some nuts. So that was sort of the real impetus behind the clown character. It's Children's Hospital on Adult Swim right now and seasons one and two available on DVD. It's Friday, June 24, 2011.

Here is what's going on in pop culture. The cast is coming in place for the FX adaptation of Powers. And it looks like we've got our Dina Pilgrim and our Christian Walker, Jason Patrick. We'll beat Christian. Lucy Punch will beat Dina Lucy, of course.

Right now a bad teacher which should be making its way to screens in the US soon. Bad drink you saw back in The Losers a couple years ago, but we won't hold that against him. FX are ready to hit the cameras for this and hopefully before the end of the year we'll see Powers on TV.

From the file of I didn't even know they still did that, Image Comics is adopting a rating system for their books, both digital and print. Same one pretty much used by DC. There will be four levels of this. E for everyone.

T for teen, which is 12 and up. E plus, which is teens 16 and older and M for mature, 18 years of older. DC's been using this system ever since they got away from the comics code a few months back. Geoff Johns hit it at it a few days ago.

Now it's definitely true. 100 bullets is headed for TV through Warner Brothers television. It'll end up on Showtime. The series will be based on the Vertigo comics done by Brian Ezarello and Eduardo Riso. It of course will be executive produced and written by David Goyer, who you know of course

from the Christopher Nolan, bad man movies, the blade movies and the upcoming man of steel reboot as well. Showtime series will more than likely be set for sometime during 2012. Howard Chaikin is getting his turn at the Avengers in a new five issue miniseries set for the fall for Marvel called Avengers 1959 involving a different incarnation of the group.

Like fury, Craven the hunters, Sabertooth, Nemora and more. It's a little bit of retcon that we're told fits in well with what Brian Michael Bendis is doing in the Avengers series right now. Chaikin both writes and draws Avengers 1959 and it launches the first of five issues in October.

Despite what you may think about the current run of Doctor Who, most people think that the brightest spot so far this year was the Neil Gaiman episode. Now it looks like Neil is in contract negotiations to write a novelization of that episode called The Doctor's Wife. No word on when that would come along, more than likely it will be at least a year or

so. But still, there will be a lot of things we're sure included in that that we didn't see in the episode. Spy vs Spy, the long running comic strip from Mad Magazine has hit the big screen and a live action version too.

Ron Howard will direct, he'll also produce or at least co-produce a long time partner Brian Grazer. There will be a script written by John Camps who you might know is a guy who has been asked to rewrite the latest Jack Ryan movie as well. Don't look for this too soon, right now Ron Howard's dance card is a little full with

the rewrite and soon to go before the camera's version of The Dark Tower. He's been a part of the comics world for decades, Bud Plaid who began selling comics out of his parents' bedroom back in 1970 and built it into not only a chain of comic stores through the 80's and early 90's but also a very successful mail order and e-catalog business is selling his Bud's art book business.

It's up for sale right now which would include his catalog, his e-commerce art book business and more. It currently releases 15 catalogs a year and of course has the e-commerce site that sells comic, pop culture and art books from their headquarters out in California. Bud's business has always stood for major customer service not only in stores but also

through his e-commerce and mail order business as well. In the meantime he plans to semi-retire continuing to operate Bud Plaid Illustrated Books that will sell used and rare illustrated books on how to print comics, fantasy and art publications at book shows, comic cons and on the web. Time for the top five movies this week.

This is Daniel for The Point, number five this week. The Hangover part two is Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms. Number four X-Men first class is getting some very good reviews. It's James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence. Number three, Master Popper's Penguins is Interesting Family Fair, no doubt about that.

Stars Jim Carrey and Angela Lansbury. And number two, Super 8 is a homage to the Spielberg films from the 70's. It's a cross between E.T. and the Goonies. It stars L. Fanning, Amanda Mikalka, Kyle Chandler, a definite summer blockbuster type film, strongly recommend Super 8.

And the number one film, Green Lantern, which is garnering some average reviews with Brian Reynolds, Blake Lively and Peter Sarsgaard. New this week, Cars 2 with the voices of Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy and Michael Caine. Bad Teachers is Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake and Conan O'Brien can't stop, probably won't be playing in too many theaters but it sounds promising.

With Conan O'Brien, Andy Richter and Stephane Colbert. There you have it. That's Daniel for this week's The Point Movie Review. Over the summer, fans of the TV series Glee are being placated with a reality series called The Glee Project on Oxygen.

Real life kids have a chance to compete for a guest starring role in the next season of Glee and in typical reality show fashion. Every week, somebody gets shown the door. Usually publicity here centers on the winners but we thought it might be interesting to talk to a couple of the people who well have invaded through so far.

This week, Ellis Fahey was tossed off the show and we asked her what she'd do different if she had a chance to do it over again. I would be a lot more guarded about who I am and how I approach things. It never really occurred to me that I had to play the game. The whole idea of the Glee Project going in was that you should be yourself and prove

that you yourself are right for Glee. I just never understood that I had to be strategic and it just went right over my head. I was very naive. If I could go back, I'd like to just keep my wits about me and my head on my shoulders and think about things a little more.

Like most of the contestants on the show, Ellis has a growing musical career. So does she have any idea where to take that next? No, I have no idea what's next. I got a lot of things I want to do so I'm just going to see what happens first. But I'm going to go to school at Columbia College in Chicago in the fall for a bulk

performance major. I'm going to try and get some gigs playing in jazz clubs and try and get a demo CD for people to hear. So I'm just going to work my way and try to go to New York or L.A. at some point and see what happens.
