the point the point hello it's Mike Raub and welcome to the point where all parts of pop culture come together so it's a show about coming back from the dead and getting a second chance and that's exactly what happened to drop dead diva we talked to the cast and the crew they're ecstatic but a little shell shocked and they got a lot to share Roger Corman opens the vault and shares

his stuff and the ghost writer back in court let's get to the point right now so the show drop dead diva is all about coming back from the dead with a second chance and that's exactly what happened to the show after four seasons we talked to star Brooke Elliott and executive producers showrunner Josh Berman who told me that when you get the word your show is over well that's kind of tough

to take I was devastated when we were canceled because I hated leaving the fan in such a lurch and I was ecstatic when we were when we were picked up but I think that Brooke and I never lost hope we really in our guts when we had these conversations where we just believe the show couldn't be over and perhaps we were just in denial but we also felt that the fan base was so strong and but

within a week of being canceled there were you know petitions online demanding the show be brought back with literally tens of thousands of signatures and dozens and dozens of homemade videos on YouTube and pages on Facebook wanting the show to be brought back so we really just believed it would have to happen it just it's hard to get fans behind a show in a universe that's so fragmented

fragmented right now especially the cable universe so knowing our die-hard fans were there we just we couldn't give up I don't think we ever fully believe we were gone overall the fact the show was canceled was just too hard to believe the notion that that's a whole show is about a woman who comes back to life and now the show has come back to life is so the theme of a second chance is

infused in the entire first episode and then I think there are little moments throughout the season with that are always a nod to our fan I mean we never break that fourth wall but if fans look closely they may pick up on special moments that are a little a little nod to our survival now with season 5 underway there's been some changes and those start behind the camera as Brooke

explains we're kicking it out we're kicking it out probably faster but the work is still the work still has a tremendous amount of integrity and and I and I hope that people see that because I'm working very hard you know I'm working really hard to have that come across and and and I don't take it lightly and it's it's something that I'm quite conscious of to really keep the

integrity of the show and as well as you know everyone else who works on it too but so hopefully hopefully people still see that you know they see the heart of it and they see the comedy of it and they see how much we care about it there's also some big plot twist taking place in the new season but that was something that Josh said he had planned for a while you know I'm gonna answer

that I guess as the writer but also as a fan of TV and that I love shows where you never know what's coming I love to I love to expect the unexpected and from the beginning I believe drop-dead diva when you turn on the show you can't expect the unexpected whether it's James Journey or the cases or her clients and I wanted people to have certain expectations coming into the season and

then I wanted to immediately subvert them and I think Brooke Elliott is magnificent and deserves an Emmy she's like she's like the fantasy after when you're in editing and you have every moment that you envision on the page come through on the screen and I think that when you have an actress like Brooke you can write scenes that really go in another direction and feel

believable and real and really can subvert expectations in a good way and there's some changes in Brooks character as well but she's okay with that it's incredibly important that Jane if we just focus on the love the love part of her life and leave career and everything else out of it for the moment it's incredibly important to me that she finds whether it's Grayson or Owen or

somebody else if she finds someone that that that loved her for every part of her being you know and and that also requires Jane to continue to grow to that point as well and so in terms of an emotional love life existence I've always wanted that for her I've always wanted that complete story for her and and you know her career she's you know she's one heck of a lawyer I think we

could all agree but you know I mean there's lots of there's lots of areas within that that we haven't covered as much but we we always could or if they're kind of in there anyway is how women play out in the work in the workforce you know how what the challenges are for women in that and and is it is it so male-dominated is it is it switching like all that kind of stuff I think is

really fun to explore too but but definitely on the heart level you know I really want that that full acceptance for for Jane and I want you know her man new characters being added one being a new guardian angel which Josh is pretty well pleased with me and developing the guardian angel character it's always about who will be the best counterpoint for Jane and who Jane is in her character

development and in thinking about what we needed out of an angel this season I thought what would an angel be like if he were a male version of Deb you know beautiful but superficial not a bad bone in his body but not necessarily looking out for anyone's interest either and wouldn't that be interesting just now that we know how Deb has developed in Jane and how she's got such

a good heart and such a good soul and such a good spirit and has learned so much what if her counterpoint what if the angel was a throwback to who she was before she ended up in Jane's body and that was the genesis of the character of Paul and I think he's fantastic and this season you know Brooke is a really really gifted physical comedian and this year with Paul there is a you'll see it's

the first time we really gone deep into the physical comedy of it all and I think the two of them bounce bounce back and forth in ways that I couldn't even have foreseen on the page and I'm so thrilled about that relationship I'll just say I'm really excited how we let's see how his departure has affected the show in ways that we couldn't have foreseen in terms of Kim Caswell played

by Kate Levering how her character grows and the idea that we get to an explore what it's like for a woman in her 30s to become unexpe at a professional woman in her 30s to unexpectedly get pregnant and then be abandoned by the man who she loved is an issue we're not shying away from and I think that there's a moment coming up in episode three of season five where Owen storyline and the departure

of Jay Parker really cross each other in a way that makes a lot of sense for the growth of the series without giving anything away and I think that fans will be very pleased to see season five of drop dead diva on lifetime get more information and a lot of cool stuff at my lifetime dot com and see season four of the show available right now on DVD

let's check the very latest in pop culture legendary B movie filmmaker Roger corman has officially launched along with his wife Julie corman's drive in its a paid channel on YouTube will be available for three ninety nine a month after a 14 day free trial and there's a rotating selection of 30 of corman's films he's got over 400 deposed over the time including things like the cry baby

killer little shop of whores early stuff with Ron Howard Martin Sheen David Carradine and so much more check it out on YouTube again its corman's drive in BBC America along with BBC tour celebrating science fiction with a new production called my god it's full of stars a journey to the edge of science fiction it's a four-part documentary with an in-depth look at all the things

that we love about sci-fi no word yet on an air date but that should happen soon the WWE is headed back into comics paper cut so has a license to produce not only graphic novels but also regular comics based on the properties titles and talent involved should be announced soon of comic con a few weeks away more licensed properties being snatched up and announced by publishers boom now

will be the home of Sons of Anarchy boom set to launch a new series based on that in September as a follow-up that story we had a few weeks ago about the guy who found the copy of action comics number one in the insulation of an old house well as you know he got a little excited with he and his wife and the back cover got torn in the process but the item went up for auction on comic connect and

the final price one hundred seventy five thousand dollars for the copy it graded out with cgc at a one point five an interesting turn of events over the ownership of ghostwriter as you remember a few months ago Gary Friedrich lost his case against Marvel when a federal district court issued a judgment that marvel was the owner of the character and didn't have to pay free to regenney

share of revenues from the movies in the merchandise now the federal court of appeals has issued a statement in favor of free drink and it's sending it back to the lower court to go to trial what happens next well it could be a long and arduous process in court or a quick settlement out of court for free drink the season finale of Game of Thrones did pretty well but you expected that it was

way up over last year's finale just about 20% and only slightly down from a couple of episode of highs this year but that is nowhere near the records broken online according to torrent freak 1 million bit torrent users downloaded the single episode over the weekend that was within 24 hours with as many as a hundred and seventy one thousand plus sharing the file simultaneously last

year Game of Thrones held the honor of being the most downloaded TV show of 2012 now with this new record more than likely it'll easily be the most pirated TV show of this year it's set for Marvel Legos at least on covers Marvel's gonna produce variant covers featuring characters as Lego minifigures for 21 of the titles coming out in September of course there's a good reason behind

it it all ties into Legos Marvel superheroes construction set and the Lego Marvel superheroes video game both which launched in the fall now we do love our lists and TV Guide seems the best place to give them lately they're doing all sorts of different compilations based on their 60th anniversary now the 60 greatest TV families of all time and on there of

course all the usual suspects starting in the top five with the families from Everybody Loves Raymond followed by All in the Family the Sopranos the Hux Tables from the Cosby Show and the number one TV family from all time the Brady Bunch some interesting surprises in the top ten list of the best-selling graphic novels for the month of May of course things up just about a percent

when you compare them to last year however last year's growth between 2012 and 2011 for May was huge well over 40% so all in all things are still on the upswing in the comic stores and the top ten also gave us a chance for DC to grow a little more with their market share and for Marvel to lose just a little bit and the independence to do pretty well as you'll see coming up at

number ten in the comic stores best-selling graphic novel was Girl with the Dragon Tattoo volume 2 from DC at number 9 Superman action the trade paperback volume 1 at number 8 superior spider-man first to trade paperback in that series at number 7 My Little Pony friendship is magic from IDW at number 6 the Deadpool trade paperback volume 1 at number 5 Adventure Time

Marceline and the Scream Queens came in at number 5 at number 4 Superman the Earth 1 trade paperback number 3 best-selling graphic novel still in there Walking Dead volume 1 days gone by number 2 is the saga trade paperback first volume from image and surprisingly enough number 1 spot belongs to boom best-selling graphic novel was Adventure Time the original graphic
