The Point Radio. It's Mike Bobb. After five seasons of much beloved sci-fi series, Warehouse 13, is coming to an end with just a handful of final episodes. What will be there and how did the characters end up?
Eddie McLintock, Joanne Kelly and showrunner Jack Kenny all share the sadness coming up. Plus not a great start to comic sales in stores in the first part of 2014. So what really is selling? We'll look at the list. Right now let's get to The Point.
This is The Point. The Point Radio. Get The Point Radio. The sci-fi network series Warehouse 13 is winding down with six final episodes running over the next few weeks.
It's a time of reflection for both cast and creators and I asked series star Eddie McLintock what type of legacy he thinks the show will leave. Well, I mean I think that the legacy, we'll see, you know. I'm sure when, back when they did however many episodes of the original Star Trek, they never dreamed that, you know, despite it being cancelled early, you know, in most estimations
that it would go on to be such a huge cult success. So I guess we'll see what happens. You know, Joanne and I were just talking. It's like I haven't seen her. I miss her.
You know, she's my friend who I've spent the last five years with and so it's hard. You know, it's difficult not to see everybody but I know we are all wishing, you know, we all are pulling for one another and I'll look back on Warehouse 13 as one of the, you know, great times of my life, my career. I watched my boys grow up and I think I may have even grown up a little bit myself but
don't tell anyone I've met that. And he's co-star Joanne Kelly added this. You can never kind of foretell what's going to happen. So all I can say is from my own personal point of view in regards to the show, I alert so much during Warehouse 13.
I think now that it's over, in the cleaning room since we stopped shooting, you realize how special it is. There's a ton of times in life where you don't really understand what something is to you until it's no longer there. I think that's a cliche for a reason and it's truly true for me that, you know, Warehouse
13 was a really special time and I don't think I understood that until I stopped, you know, until we stopped, until you stopped showing up every day and you say, oh my God, I'm not going to see these people. I'm used to seeing every day these people have been such a big part of my life. It's a huge change, you know.
So how about from a creative side? Was there any storyline they didn't get to finish? Jack Kinney, showrunner for Warehouse 13. You know, at the end of last season we gave Joanne a cancer line story and I really would have loved to have explored that a little more realistically, a little more over some
time, have her character get more involved with that. But when they told us we had six, we had to end the entire series, we did not want to spend, you know, five of those episodes dealing with cancer because it just would have been a real downer. I think a downer for the fans, a downer for the actors.
It would have been no fun for Jo to have to do that and it was just, you know, so we kind of, you know, I don't feel proud of this but we kind of ended it quickly and moved on. Because if we hadn't it would have been an entirely different kind of an ending to the series and I don't think what the series actually deserved. In a world that saw Veronica Mars go from a cancelled TV series to a crowdfunded movie,
what about a Kickstarter funded film? I mean, we would start a Kickstarter campaign to bring the series back but because, you know, we all felt like we had a lot more to say and a lot more to do and it was the best professional experience of my career so far and I'm very sad that it ended. I'm very proud of the way we ended it but we left it in a way that we could very easily do a movie.
Were the actors happy with the way their characters ended up? I'm an actor, you know, I'm not a writer. We have great writers and I trusted them to wrap it up in the best way that they knew how, you know. I think it can become an ease with a lot of actors once they get involved in that process and some people are different, some people are really good but for me I just trusted the writing staff,
you know, let them do their thing. They've done it for five years, let them do it a little bit longer. There's more coming up on Warehouse 13. Classic cartoon adversaries Tom and Jerry are back with a new series that began just this week on the Cartoon Network done by Warner Brothers Animation and the shorts while being a little longer than the old ones were. These are 11 minutes as opposed to the original cartoons being 7 minutes are pretty much told of the classic style. However, all the stories are new. They're not revamping or retelling any of the original Tom and Jerry cartoons but all the major characters are there of course including Tom, Jerry, Spike and a lot more.
Again, the new Tom and Jerry's running right now on the Cartoon Network and check your local listings for more information. In a movie that has a lot of still angry fans crying commercialism, the creators of How I Met Your Mother have decided to add a different finale to the DVD collection. This will be an alternative one they allegedly did at the same time as the original one, the one a couple of weeks ago that angered so many long time viewers. The DVD collection will be available with the new ending in the fall. Sci-Fi has greenlit a series based on the 1995 12 Monkeys film, the one directed by Terry Gilliam.
A pilot had been filmed which was said to premiere in January but now the network got behind an entire 12 episode order which again will premiere on the network early next year. For a show that millions of fans seek out and download as a free torrent, it wasn't surprising that the premiere of Game of Thrones on HBO crashed their HBO Go app a couple of days ago. And again, it could have been expected considering the same thing happened during the finale of True Detective just a couple of weeks earlier. No official word from HBO yet as to how they plan on handling this in the future. During the time of the outage, HBO tweeted out to its fans and directed them to an on demand part of most cable systems where they said the episode would turn up in a few hours.
Sales for comic books in comic stores in March and the first quarter of 2014 are all in the record books now and it's not a very pleasing story. Overall sales of both comics and graphic novels were down a little over 1% when compared to last year. Individual comics themselves were down well over 9% in March when compared to last year while graphic novels had a rise of about 18%. For the first quarter of the year comic sales were down almost 7% while graphic novels had a rise of a little over 1%. We'll check all the numbers including what the top 10 best selling items were coming up.
Looks like DC may have the potential to grab most of your money this week in the comic stores as we look at some of the cool stuff waiting for you. However, it begins with Dark Horse and Fred Gallagher's Mega Tokyo as an omnibus edition in a trade paperback format. It contains the first three volumes of Fred's work plus some exclusive extra stuff too and a brand new story as well. From DC, Astro City has a new issue this week, number 11, and if you've been meaning to catch up, there's a couple of collections in Astro City's Shining Star Straight paperback and a Through the Open Doors hardcover this week as well. The weekly Batman book from Scott Snyder starts out with the first issue of Batman Eternal and the doomed story arc continues in Superman Wonder Woman number 7.
From Image, there's Shutter number 1 which they say combines fables and Why the Last Man. Interesting first issue this week with a bunch of different covers and also from Image, the new Walking Dead number 125. Over to Marvel for a new series with Duke from the pages of X-Men that starts with number 1. Also an all new Alderman begins with a number 1 and a new first issue of Nightcrawler as well. Evil Empire has a second printing for the first issue this week and Dynamite brings back Flash Gordon with a whole bunch of different covers with work by Jeff Parker and Evan Shainer handling the regular series.

The point, the point. 2014 not a banner year for comic sales in comic stores. First quarter sales are in and it shows comics being down well over 6% for the year when compared to last year. And for the month of March comic sales themselves in stores were down almost 10% when compared to last year. So what were the biggest selling books in comic stores in March starting at number 10 on Candy X-Men number 19 from Marvel.
Walking Dead number 124 from Image Game and number 9. Number 8 first issue the relaunch Silver Surfer number 7 Superior Spider-Man number 30. Number 6 the Daredevil reboot first issue with that. At number 5 Superior Spider-Man number 29 Neil Gaiman Sandman Overture the long awaited second issue came in at number 4. Forever Evil number 6 came in at number 3 at number 2.
