Tom DeFalco speaks!

Marvel writer and former editor-in-chief sits for an exclusive ComicMix Podcast interview and talks about "the last true Marvel comic book" and long-time comics fan Gene Simmons becomes a comics publisher. Buffy #1 gets re-Buffed as lots of first printings sell-out.

www.ComicMix.com ComicMix. One more time. Look at him, look at him, look at him, boys, let's go racing. Here we go plunging into the weekend again with green on our body, of course, white on the ground in the lot of the U.S. and a lot of stuff to share with you.

Hi, it's Mike Raub with the Weekend Podcast. The guy with the longest tongue is back in comics. We'll tell you about that. A lot of other news to share as well. We'll take a trip back into the trunk and dig out what was happening in 1989 and a lot more too.

This is Tom DeFalco, the writer of the Amazing Spider Girl and this is ComicMix. March 17th, 2007. ComicMix. Yes. Well Dark Horse is going back to print for the first issue of Buffy Season 8 in just hours and sold out 100,000 copies in comic stores around the country.

The second printing coming soon will have a full bleed version of the Jo-Chan cover with some of the design elements removed. They save for a cleaner, more stripped down kind of look. The new version will be in stores around the 28th of March, just a week before the release of issue number two. Speaking of more sold out comics, Civil War, the initiative is sold out of Marvel. They're going back to press for a second printing.

This one will have another cover by Mark Silvestri featuring one of the images from that issue and the first issue of Mighty Avengers sold out of Marvel. They're going back to press, second printing coming with a new cover featuring one of Frank Chow's splash pages from the issue. Again, for all these comics, be sure to check with your retailer as soon as possible. Desperado Publishing has announced that their two and a half year partnership with Image Comics will come to an end later this summer. Blackmas number four, Solicitive for May, will be the final co-publishing effort between the two companies.

And Desperado will be in publishing under their own banner with eight solicited titles coming in July. Image Comics also says that the first issue of Dynamo Five is sold out for them. We told you so on that one. A new printing of Dynamo Five number one with all new cover will be available soon and will be in the stores around the 4th of April. Again, talk to your retailer.

Dynamite Entertainment said that Loan Ranger number six is going to have additional pages added, but it will not increase in price. Loan Ranger number six will have 25 full pages of story and art, which will wrap up the first storyline, which is the retelling of the Loan Ranger's origin. Of Gene Simmons has loved comics his entire life almost as much as he's loved music, and now he has a chance to do that as well as he did the other. He's going to partner with IDW for a new set of comics called the Simmons Comics Group. It begins later on this summer with a bunch of titles, the first being Gene Simmons House of Horrors, a regular horror anthology that comes out four times a year.

First issue comes in July with a cover by Todd McFarland. There will be stories in there by a bunch of different people, and each one will have an intro and an outflow written by Simmons. Also from the group, a title called Zipper, a stranger in a strange land like no other, which was created by Gene Simmons and scripted by Tom Waltz. Dominatrix, which Simmons describes as TNA meets CIA, and Indie, Race of the Galaxy is a contest of racing champions that takes place in deep space, and a comic that will be sold at NASCAR events as well as in the comic book stores. Rounding out the group will be Skullduggery, produced by Nick Simmons, Gene's son, and all the comics will be featured on the A&E series Gene Simmons Family Jewels.

That begins season number two next Sunday the 25th. On A&E, check your local papers. ComicMix.com Comic M-I-X Tom DeFalco started his comics career in Archie and then moved over to Marvel not long after in the early 1980s.

In addition to co-creating the Dazzler, he had a long successful run as the writer on Amazing Spider-Man. And then in 1987, he succeeded Jim Shooter as editor-in-chief at Marvel. He held that post until 1994, making him the guy to hold that position the third longest. In Marvel history. In 1998, Tom created Spider-Girl, easily one of Marvel's most fan-loved series.

And today he's doing the Amazing Spider-Girl series and just came off doing another one of those Avengers Next mini-series. We talked to Tom who's pretty enthusiastic about just what Spider-Girl is. The Amazing Spider-Girl, which is the last true classic Marvel-style comic book. For all of you older readers who grew up on Marvel Comics, Amazing Spider-Girl is the title that will remind you why you fell in love with comic books in the first place. For all of you newer readers, Amazing Spider-Girl is the comic book which will make you fall in love with comic books and enrich your lives for years to come.

So what's next for Tom DeFalco? Well, we just did an Avengers Next limited series. It's coming together in a trade paperback. You'd better reserve your copy now because it'll probably sell out quickly because, as any of you people know, if you go to a store on Friday, and Spider-Girl comes out on Wednesday, if you go on Friday, you've missed your copy because it sells out that quickly.

So you want your Avengers Next paperback? You better order it now because otherwise it'll sell out and your life will be incomplete forever because there'll be a quiz later on. Yep, no question Tom is a pretty amazing guy. Of course I'm amazing, that's why you're the Amazing Spider-Girl. Well, if you hurry, you can catch the new issue of Amazing Spider-Girl that just came out a couple of days ago and that Avengers Next trade paperback will be along before you know it just like Tom said.
