The Point Radio. It's Mike Raub, Doctor Who has nothing on the folks from 12 Monkeys when it comes to being really timey-wimey. Amanda Shawl and Aaron Stanford are along to talk about the new season. Plus what happens to comedians when the audience goes home and the lights go out?

Get The Point Radio. The Point Radio. The Point Radio. A critically acclaimed time travel thriller, 12 Monkeys, is back for a new season on Sci-Fi. And Siri star Aaron Stanford brings us up to speed about how things here compare with

that original movie. The show kicks off with the basic storyline from the movie, which is that it begins in the future. There's then a plague that's wiped out almost the entire human population, 7 billion people have died.

There is a time travel experiment that's discovered by these scientists who've gone underground and they recruit me, a scavenger, a survivor living on the surface, to go back in time and assassinate the man responsible for spreading the plague. And my character James Cole meets up with Amanda's character, Dr. Cassandra Raylee, and recruits her because he needs a partner to complete his mission.

Actors Amanda Schull's character is also based on one from the original movie. So how does that compare? Oh, well I think that I've been given the gift of this wonderful writing and these writers whose imaginations just laid out some very strong frameworks for this character, which I was very fortunate to be able to have that to play with.

And then it's also very fortunate that the people we work with are all very astute and they observe things, they observe our strengths and our weaknesses, what we're very comfortable working with and they play to them. And I think that's something that is evident with every single one of the actors on this show that they know what we're capable of and they push the limits and I think we're

all very grateful for that. So what's on the way in the new season? There's a lot on the way. Anyone who saw the first season, you're going to see a lot more of the characters that you loved.

We have Deacon, Stab King, Jennifer obviously is coming back for more in various incarnations. I can't spoil too much about that but she gets various versions of Jennifer. Jones is obviously back and she's back with the bang. Again, that's a tease. You're going to see a lot of these people, their backstories are expanded, you're going

to see them having relationships with the characters they did not interact with before. And then also the big thing is just really, really expanding the story and the mythology. It's revealed in season two that the plague that wiped out 7 billion people is just the beginning of the conspiracy. So things get really, really deep.

And for what I hear there's some pretty big guest stars this time too. That is an understatement. We sure do have some big guest stars. Can you tease any of those? No, I'll be allowed to tease a few of them.

We have Michael Hogan from Battlestar Galactica. Brendan Coyle. Brendan Coyle from Downton Abbey. And I think we're burying the lead here. Oh, which will remind me, which is the lead.

Stop it. The lead is metal and stone. Oh, of course. I wasn't sure we were allowed to talk about that but I thought that was off limits. We can talk about that with Mike.

Oh, yeah. So Madeleine Stowe from the original movie is back and it's pretty amazing. She's playing a… No, I can't do that. No, that's not a line there.

A lot to say very little. Yeah, she's back. As you'd expect with a time travel drama, there's a lot to keep track of here. I asked Amanda what drew her in the beginning to a role like this. I didn't know there would be so much to keep straight.

Not that that would have turned me away. I think that would have intrigued me even more. I think one of the things that excited me most about this character was her strength and her brain. And I think it's really exciting to be able to play somebody on television that is not

a damsel in distress and that is very capable of existing on her own, which is something that has only gotten more and more complicated and interesting to be able to portray. So obviously the movie had a finite ending. Is that really true for the series as well? There's lots of story to go.

That's the great thing about rebooting a movie like this into television form. It gives you a chance to tell a truly epic story. You can tell a novel-sized story as opposed to a short story. And they've already gone a long way with that. And yeah, we hope to keep on going for five seasons or more.

season and more than likely for an eighth as well, which should be the final one in that run. The network also made some announcements. They picked up a Veep for a Season 6 and Silicon Valley will return next year for a fourth season on HBO.

It looks like the Superman prequel Krypton is getting a little closer to being reality. David S. Goyer's project looks like it's headed to Sci-Fi with Damian Kindler from Sleepy Hollow on board as showrunner. Line up on eBay for this one. It looks like for Civil War Marvel is issuing a 1 in 1,000 variant cover for Civil War 2

No. The sketch will be done by Greg Lands. It'll be an agents of shield of variant and again if retailers want to get this, they're committed to ordering 1,000 copies of Civil War 2 No. 0 for Marvel.

Barnes and Noble stores are getting into gaming in a big way after doing a little promotion in some of their stores last year for what they called a casual game gathering. Now there's going to be tabletop gaming meetups and a lot more beginning in just a few days at stores all around the country. The plan is for eventually all 640 Barnes and Noble outlets to participate with some

sort of gaming event. Check with your local store for their events calendar. A few weeks back Pop Culture was on fire when we found out that Spider-Man was going to make an appearance in Captain America Civil War and now it looks like well fair is only fair. Spider-Man Homecoming, the new film that'll kick off the latest run of reboots from Sony,

will also feature Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, no word yet on whether any other Marvel characters will appear in the film which is set to be in theaters in 2017. Already ended the first quarter of 2016 in graphic novel sales in comic book stores, up almost 13% to where they were last year. Pretty good period of time for graphic novel sales and when we look at the top 10 best

sellers in comic stores for the month. We started at number 10 with Avatar The Last Airbender volume 2, Smoke and Shadow, part 3. At number 9 the Batman hardcover Super Heavy which is volume 8 in that run. At number 8 the Secret Wars hardcover from Marvel.

At number 7 East of West the Trade Paperbag volume 5, All These Secrets from Image. Image again comes in at number 6 with the first volume of the Beauty Trade Paperback. At number 5 the Batman Trade Paperbag volume 7, Endgame from DC. At number 4 Tokyo Ghost volume 1, Atomic Garden again from Image. At number 3 the Civil War Trade Paperback.

At number 2 the Paper Girls Trade Paperbag volume 1 and the best seller for graphic novels in comic stores in March. At number 1 The Walking Dead Trade Paperbag volume 25, No Turning Back. The point, the point. So in the world of stand up comedy what happens when the lights go down and the audience goes

home? That's what we look at in a new series called Living with Funny that goes behind the curtains to take a peek at comedians real lives and relationships. DeRay Davis is one of the stars of the show and he tells us what it's about. Well Living with Funny man is when you two strippers live, I'm kidding.

Living with Funny is basically the docu-series that happens after the curtain closes what happens with comedians when they go home. People always say I bet it's whenever people meet a comedian it's significant. You always say hey I bet it's funny all day, I bet it's this all day and they don't know where we get the content of our comedy from and I think a lot of comedians include myself

get it from home and being at home whether you're riffing with yourself or talking to your loved ones or whatever and it shows that side of it. So it's really fun man, it's good. It's a different kind of show which that's why I even took part in it. Who are the other comedians involved?

Michael Blackson is on the show, the African Kigger comedy, Brandon T Jackson, you've seen him in Percy Jackson the movie, Eric Rivera is on the show, Adam Hunter is on the show and it shows from the height of the urban comedy down to the crossover comedy to everything so those guys and their significant others and Adam has nobody, he's very lonely on the show.

One thing we find out about DeRay on the show is the fact that he has two living girlfriends, how's that work out? Well I think most men on earth have two girlfriends, they just don't talk about it or they're scared to get caught because they don't want to get anything chopped off or cut off. Well how'd you manage it?

Hey man, I'm handsome as hell one. It's a circle of trust man, once you develop a conversation that you know that you get to deliver to people, that you tell them exactly who you are, I think people are just as confident as you are in the situation. So hey man, it's limiting men out here.

Ain't no damn men out here that's successful and doing that thing and comfortable and energetic and fun all the time. So when we get sick of that, so if they get to find one, every now and then man they share it, they share that guy. So what are the tough parts that DeRay's friends and family have to deal with him?

I think putting up with me period in my past and everything I've been through because I don't trust a lot of people, I'm the kind of person man, my mom will come over, I'm gonna follow her around the house and make sure she don't steal nothing. So I think I come from a place where we're not used to much so now that I'm doing well, it's hard for me to adapt to the fact that I'm actually successful.

Like I do a lot of stuff man, I'm still cutting coupons and trying to save money, cutting corners, you know what I'm saying? The gas is high, we walking, stuff like that. So I think dealing with that kind of person, I'm a grandfather inside of a young man's body and I think sometimes that comes up, you know, mentally, that bothers people.

I get on, I work nerves around the house. How about a tease on what's coming up in future episodes? Definitely look forward to me and Marlon Wayans getting into debt because over the years of touring, I get a little thick. You know, you get a little, you gain a little weight, you eat a lot of wings and ham in

the back room and I got somebody from one of Hollywood's royal like families comedically telling me, you know, I need to lose some weight. So I think that's very funny episode, you know, him trying to motivate me when he's naturally skinny. Unlike a lot of comedians who were funny as a kid, Deray came into comedy a different

way. My uncle was a bartender in Chicago at a comedy club and I walked in and saw comedy on stage. I had never saw it on TV. I had never like, wanted to be a comedian, never thought about it.

Actually we used to try to fight the comedians in school and I saw it in my energy tour. It was different. I said, you know, I could do that. I can get on stage. Me and my cousins would roast each other all the time and now all I do is talk about the

audience. I want to make people feel bad about their clothing. No, I'm kidding. I want to make people, I want to make people have a good time and go on stage and just, you know, do something that I wasn't, do something different.

I was very daring. So, and who were some of his inspirations? A lot of local guys, man, in Chicago, Corey Hocham, Tony Schofield at this time, there was a lot of, not a lot of big name guys like Senator Dinnertaining would come to town every now and then.

So I watched him as far as stage presence and everything, but it wasn't until later that I learned the craft that I watched the Richard Pryor's of the world, the Red Foxes listen to the records and knew to make your voice stronger than anything on stage. Stronger than any facial expression you can make, stronger than any, you know, thing you could do on stage, acting things out, your voice needed to be that power.
