Broadcast 162. ComicGigs.com! ComicMix Radio! It has to feel good. I feel good. I feel good.
I feel good. It makes me feel good all over. With a week like this, how could you not feel good? Hi, it's Mike Raub on ComicMix Radio with a writer's strike foot to bed, hearts and flowers on the way, and before all that, our new comics and TVD shopping trip begins here in just a couple of minutes.
And did you know it's also a big week for us right here on ComicMix? More on that coming up, but let's get rolling on. Well, the writer's strike is settled, and now the clean up begins. ABC has announced the pick up of nine of their shows that they're going to bring back for next season, 2008-2009. That includes a renewal for Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives, Dirty Sexy Money, Grey's Anatomy, Lost, Private Practice, Pushing Daisies, Samantha Who, and Ugly Betty.
Meanwhile, the CW is moving forward to try to get a few new episodes into this season, or at least what's left of it. Look for new episodes on the way of One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, Supernatural, Reaper, and Smallville. Those could begin as early as late March or early April. Alright, you've been warned that when you go to the comic store this week, the first book you should get in your hands before somebody else does is Captain Marvel Number 3. According to Diamond, it is already sold out before it hits the stores tomorrow, all because of a big surprise on the final page that involves Secret Invasion.
Meanwhile, the very well done 12 Number 2 was sold out from Diamond as well. That came out last week, so you at least had a little chance to grab that. Right now, neither book is scheduled for a second printing variance. DC's next weekly series is Trinity. It's under the watchful eye of writer Kurt Buzic, and here's how it goes. The weekly series begins in June. Each issue contains two stories, and it centers mainly on Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Hence the name Trinity.
The first story will be done by Buzic and artist Mark Bagley, making his DC debut at last. The second story will be by other writers and artists with a lot of different people on the list, including Fabian Nissienza and Scott McDaniel. And again, Trinity begins in June. A new Star Wars back in the theaters, Star Wars The Clone Wars will be released in movie theaters on August 15th. That's right before it debuts as the half hour animated series on the Cartoon Network and TNT.
The official Star Wars website said the project has been a partnership among Lucas Films and Warner Bros. and Turner Broadcasting Systems. No word yet on just how many episodes will actually be in the theatrical release. Sci-fi channels announced that Battlestar Galactica returns for its farewell beginning on March 28th with two back-to-back 30-minute episodes that celebrate the series and help recap those who may have missed something. Battlestar Galactica revisited reviews what's happened over the last three seasons and then Battlestar Galactica the Phenomenon has celebrity interviews and the cultural impact of the show examined in a news format. The first two episodes will debut the week following at April 4th on 10 p.m. on the Sci-Fi channel.
It's a wonderful Valentine's gift for Indiana Jones fans, if you can get up early enough that is. Come Thursday morning and catch Good Morning America on ABC between 8 and 9 a.m. for the debut of the first movie trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. If you sleep late and miss it don't worry the trailer is going to be in movie theaters within days afterwards and you could also catch it at IndianaJones.com and movies.yahoo.com. What's coming out this is This Week. There's Astro City back again this time the Dark Age special number two beauty.
That flash continues with a third issue in that six issue miniseries for the all-ages group Batman Strikes number 42. There's also booster gold number zero. This one ties into the zero hour series from a few years back at D.C. There's a trade paperback of Connor Hawk Dragon's Blood and of course countdown continues were up to issue number 11 or would it be down to that. It's also crossing midnight in a trade paperback this week.
It's the second volume of that. It's a map of midnight. There's the MC number 28 Friday the 13th Badland number two which winds up that two issue miniseries. There's a gen 13 number 17 Gotham underground number five which will be a nine issue miniseries when it's done. Green Arrow and Black Canary hit issue number five and there's a variant of that as well if you can grab it.
There's also Green Lantern Corps number 21 JLA classified number 52 which continues at John Byrne story I believe. There's Justice League of America the hardcover volume two of the lightning saga and Legion of the Super Heroes in the 31st century. That's an all ages book in a hit issue number 11 salvation run the seven issue series that ties into countdown sort of hits issue number four. There's a nice thick volume of showcase presenting the enemy ace of stories. That's the first volume in that and Simon Dark is at issue number five ComicMix his own John O.
Strander has Suicide Squad raise the flag at number six and that eight issue miniseries as Superman number 673. The Time Masters miniseries is reprinted in one trade paperback also for the all ages group and kind of an interesting experiment that we've talked about. Tiny Titans as the very first issue this week as well as Wonder Woman number 17 from DC. Devils do checks in with another GI Joe title this time it's a GI Joe America's elite number 32. There's Spooks number one which has two different covers from Devils do.
Also of course for anybody in the family from Gemstone the beautiful Walt Disney comics and stories number 687 and Uncle Scrooge number 372. From Image there's 76 number two that'll be an eight issue series when it's done. There's the fourth issue of Brit chemist number two first issue of gut wrencher and that's a three issue series. Jack staff it's issue number 14 and another book we talked about lately that isn't finally making its debut the next issue project as issue number one. This time looking back at the Golden Age in the series they're called Fantastic Comics.
The easily sold out sword is back again this time issue number five is in the stores at least for a little while. And there's also Walking Dead number 46 from Image. From Marvel there's Amazing Spider Girl number 17 brand new day continues with Amazing Spider Man number 550. There's Black Panther number 34 and the book that sold out even before it hit the stores Captain Marvel number three in that five issue miniseries. A lot going on there grab it as soon as you can.
Civil War Chronicles is in a number eight. There's Dead of Night featuring Man Thing. This is the first issue which will run four before it's over with. Another book that's sneaking in there but one people are talking about it's the Malar Hitch Fantastic Four that begins this week with number 554. There are a couple of different variants on that be sure to talk to your retailer.
Also this week the one shot Fantastic Four Lost Adventure. Ghost Rider number 20 Iron Man Enter the Mandarin number five almost winds up that six issue series. Iron Man Powerback number four does wind up that one. There's Marvel Adventures Halt number eight for the all ages crowd as well as Marvel Adventures Spider Man number 36. And then Marvel Comics Presents comes in at number six as well as New Avengers at number 38.
New Exiles is update issue number two and there's the first Nova annual this week. There's a one shot for the Punisher fans this week. Punisher Force of Nature as well as Punisher War Journal number 16. The Back in Black story arc from Spider Man. Really really good in case you missed it.
You can get it all in the trade paperback this week. There's also Spider Man Family number seven. Submariners Revolution story arc is contained in a trade paperback this week from the Ald of the universe. It's all from Iron Man to number three. That'll be four issues when it's done.
There's also Wolverine number 62 this week and X Factor number 28 as well. Exforce number one if there's not enough to worry about this week better grab this one quick as well. There's a couple of different variants to go along with that from Marvel this week. And one more thing to look for this week in the independent area. It's Hero by Night.
Really good series. Second issue of that out from Platinum Studios. A little quiet on the DVD front this week. A couple of good films though that made it right from the theaters on the disc include Gone Baby Gone. That movie directed by Ben Affleck.
No Reservations is this week on DVD as well as romance and cigarettes. Martian Child. Why did I get married? From Tyler Perry. The Amateurs and the movie that was surprisingly enough with a right to DVD but with a fairly decent cast.
Michelle Pfeiffer and Paul Rudd and I Never Could Be Your Woman. TV on DVD this week includes the third season of Family Ties. The eighth season of Dallas. From UPN, Girlfriends hits season number three and one of the most underappreciated shows of the 80s. Finally going to be out on disc.

February 12, 1970. This week as we headed down to the drugstore we were a little excited because the latest issue with the comic reader had told us. And there were strong rumors that King Kirby was on his way to DC. Meanwhile this week from that company we got DC Special number seven which was a nice reprint collection of the strange sports stories. We got Green Lantern, Green Arrow number 76.
ComicMix's own Danny O'Neill turned the entire world upside down with one of the most monumental comics of the 70s. We also got Jimmy Olsen number 128 and Lois Lane number 100 as well as The Unexpected number 118. At Marvel we got Fantastic Four number 98, Spider-Man number 84 which had the kingpin. Avengers hit number 75 with beautiful art from John Buscema. We got Rawhide Kid number 76, Sergeant Fury number 77.
And speaking of great looking comics, that was one of the last issues of the Silver Surfer this time number 16 from Marvel. And from warm publications we got Creepy number 32 with a beautiful cover painting by Frank Frazetta. 1970. In the news two Israeli planes bombed an Egyptian scrap metal factory killing 68 workers. An unarmed US reconnaissance plane was shot down off the ghost of Red China.
And defense attorneys claimed that Lieutenant William Cowley accused in taking part of the infamous Miele massacre could not get a fair trial in the US due to the media. In the movies it was another one of those weeks where there was virtually something for everyone. James Bond's Honor and Majesty's Secret Service is where we went to see. There was also Friends of the Popper. Goodbye Mr. Chips and if we'd have been old enough we probably would have snuck in to see something called All the Loving Couples. TV that night was much more accessible. There were episodes of Dragnet, something called Paris 7000.
Our families were entertained by the Dean Martin show and for at least 30 minutes Mrs. Donahue had her moment in the sun. It was one of the gems of the ABC lineup that TV season, Marlo Thomas in That Girl. On the radio a really good example of what's in a name. This guy's first group was called Freddie Chapman and the Idaho Playboys and then a chance meeting with a guy named Revere brought him to another group. This time they called themselves the Downbeats. They almost had a hit record but that wasn't where it was going to end.
Along came Dick Clark and then the fairy tale kicked in. 1970. There was a long list of hit records for Paul Revere and the Raiders. By the end of the decade though lead singer Mark Lindsay wanted to try it on his own and he did with a top ten song called Arizona. And all you can do is laugh at her. Does anybody know how to pray?
