You're right, it's a "piss take." But I will admit, I was fooled by it at first. (I really don't have a great sense of irony.) Unfortunately it's just too close to reality. There are too many sincerely religious people who believe homosexuals should "pray the gay away." There are religious groups that stage protests at the funerals of US Military Servicemen, because they feel the deaths of our Military are God's retribution for our nation's sins. It's enough to make the bile in my spleen curdle. Yuck.
And there are biker clubs composed of vets who come to funerals and non-violently interpose theselves between the nutjobs and the funeral parties.(I think that's really just one "religous" group, consisting almost entirely of one jerk and his large family, BTW.)
