Steve Lafler’s Nikki & Ramona is a romp through Manhattan after midnight in 1956, blending the worlds of cool jazz, high fashion and (gasp!) literary fiction. Imagine The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel meets Naked Lunch at the Three Deuces jazz club just as Miles Davis and Coltrane hit the stage. Jack and Susie compete for the job of chief buyer for the McCurdy’s retail chain as Nikki & Ramona jump at their creative dreams in order to escape their work as garment district hookers! It’s all complicated by Ramona navigating the Manhattan of the 1950s as a trans person.
