* the. Speak-er is shaped like a cartoon speech bubble. Of course, if it was a speech bubble, it would have speech recognition to render text on the fly. If it was really cool, it would look like John Workman lettering. * ICv2 – First Second to Publish Scott McCloud. "First Second Books has announced…
The Big Skinny: How I Changed My Fattitude By Carol Lay Villard, January 2009, $18.00 In the wake of [[[Perseopolis]]] and similar works, graphic novels have become ever more popular for acquisition editors at the major trade publishing houses. But, just as the direct market twists products in the direction of its own obsessions –…

Watchmen toys at last! Just one of the five cool things in the comic shops this week, plus The Punisher headed to DVD, Hot exclusives headed to the New York ComicCon and why no one is headed to The Oscars this year. PRESS THE BUTTON and you’ll Get The Point! And be sure to stay…
As is typical with any comic to film adaptation, there’s bound to be a video game tie-in, and (sadly for some) Watchmen is no exception. But this isn’t your typical cheap cash-in on the film or graphic novel’s name…at least, that’s what the developers, filmmakers, and even some of the comic’s creators would have you…
Lone Justice: Crash! is the new graphic novel from the Harvey award nominated team of Robert Tinnell and Mark Wheatley. Regular visitors to ComicMix also know Mark Wheatley as the co-creator (also along with Robert Tinnell) of EZ Street, as well as Frankenstein Mobster on his own. For many of Mark’s fans and admirers, it…
There’s little left to be said about Jeff Smith’s superlative Bone. If that’s the case, then why write anything at all? Because today, Scholastic’s Graphix imprint has released Crown of Horns, the ninth and final volume in their color collection. Coming six months after Treasure Hunters, this is a longer book, 212 pages, but with…

But they’re both fairly new, not all that well-known, and self-published by their respective female creators (with an asterisk in the first case, which I’ll get to) – so that’s good enough for me. The Martian…
Lone Justice: Crash! is the new graphic novel from the Harvey award nominated team of Robert Tinnell and Mark Wheatley. This two-fisted pulp adventure began last week on ComicMix, but it’s been in the works for a while… in fact, we had a promotional video at the San Diego Comic-Con this past summer. And now…
Let’s say comics fandom congealed in the early 60s, or nearly 30 years after the first comic book was published. That means organized comics fandom has been around more than half again that span. We have our own history, and much of it has been chronicled — brilliantly — by Bill Schelly. Now Bill has…
Lone Justice: Crash! is the new graphic novel from the Harvey award nominated team of Robert Tinnell and Mark Wheatley. This two-fisted pulp adventure began Monday on ComicMix, but how does it all come together? Mark Wheatley has taken the time to set up a video camera and show you exactly how he puts the…
