Annnnd we’re off! A librarian friend of mine used to sigh that his job would be perfect "if it weren’t for the patrons." One is tempted to say the same about a convention that’s only in the trade show stages — right now it’s very comfortable and easy to move around and seems pretty organized….
To quote Dr. Seuss, "We are here, we are here, we are here!" Pictured above, from left to right: Standing, we have Brian Alvey, Mike Gold, Mike Raub and Glenn Hauman. Seated are Martha Thomases and me, Elayne Riggs, as the Beav — oh no wait, people might think that’s something other than a reference…
From Cartoon Network’s Class of 3000, here’s some Kyle Baker work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ik6cvMtmGOc Did we mention Kyle will have a booth at the New York Comicon? Did we mention he’s doing caricatures? Did we mention the pretty women who will be at the booth? Go forth and find him and buy many copies of his books….
Our second reviewer, longtime comics writer Tony Isabella, makes his debut as a ComicMix podcast critic and spells out his rules and regulations. Archie Comics takes on Marvel Comics in "Civil Chores." More previews of this weekend’s NYCC. Mike Raub delivers the news and the goods on ComicMix podcast #5 — which you can get…
We know New York can be a scary place for out-of-towners, many of whom are using today as a travel day to come in for the New York Comic Con starting tomorrow. That’s one reason why some local comics folks will have all kinds of fun stuff for visitors to their booths during the weekend. …
The Hey Lady isn’t about to let anyone disabuse her of the notion that comic book conventions are attended mostly by stereotypical male comic book geeks. Not even when they have huge manga and anime contingents (very popular with girls and women), all sorts of tie-ins with other media, and are run by professional convention…
I was at lunch today with a bunch of comics people, and they were talking about the NY Comicon and complaing how hard it was to find things on the site, like when the panels were and the like. And we’re always happy to help out here. New York Comicon Panels See you there.
Heidi McDonald’s already done the heavy lifting on where all the post-NYCC parties are going to be. A word to the wise: sleep is not an optional item. You need to rest sometime. On the other hand, if you’re used to pulling all-nighters to hit deadlines, go wild.
The New York Comic Con is beginning to look like San Diego East. Expect lots of stuff that’s comics-related but isn’t necessarily graphic storytelling on paper. Case in point: ICv2 reports on Starz Home Entertainment’s presence at the con, where they’ll ill screen the second direct-to-DVD Hellboy movie, Hellboy Animated: Blood & Iron, on Saturday…
If you’re the New York Comic Con, you put up a webpage on MySpace and pretend you’re a 28 year old female. Now that’s the way to drum up business. And it’s a good thing too, because I was worried about the convention being underattended.
Marvelous May, DC’s scheduling nightmare, Stan Lee and tons of news and previews — we it all in the fourth Comicmix Podcast, now downloadable right here, right now: Plus — Timeline, a guide to new variant covers, a reveal on Battlestar Galactica, Buffy and … John Wayne? If you missed any of our earlier…
Colleen Doran will be there (and posts her panel schedule). Keith Champagne will be there. The Chemistry Set webcomics collective will be there. Becky Cloonan will be there. It’s getting easier to enumerate who won’t be at the New York Comic Convention than who will be! Some words of advice: At this point a lot of…
