ComicMix Hi and welcome to another week of ComicMix podcast, it's Mike Raub and we are dancing in high gear this week for sure Countdown to the big New York Comic Con that starts on Friday We'll tease you a little bit about that. May is a big month for Marvel We'll tell you what that means and give you some hints on what's cool to spend your cash on this week in the comic book store

Let's look back to with the fun We had this very same time in the last year of the sensational 60s and there's so much more beyond that all this week February 20th 2007 I'm the only one who can walk in those worlds Oh

Ghost Rider Let's ride Congratulations to the guys of Marvel Comics. It is a good weekend for them That's for sure Ghost Rider came in number one movie in the country with forty four and a half million dollars Number two, of course was Disney's bridge to terra bithia and number three Eddie Murphy's in Norbert

But top of the chart for Ghost Rider Nick Cage. There you go Come next While the guys at DC must be real thrilled about another deadline problem This is the ongoing one of the new series of Wonder Woman Now Wonder Woman number five that's supposed to be out within a month or so is not going to have the final chapter of that

Who is Wonder Woman story that began back with number one? Instead it's a brand new story that involves a new woman's movement that began when Wonder Woman killed Max Lord back a few months ago In Justice League and Superman what's gonna happen with that final chapter of who was Wonder Woman? Well DC is not saying they said it's to be rescheduled at a future date All right, here you go with your top ten comic list

What were the big sellers last month in January and comic book stores all around the country? Well, according to Diamond Comics the ten start this way with 52 number 36 at number 10 Wolverine origins number 10 at number nine at number eight all-star Superman number six number seven The first of the Civil War title Civil War front line number 10 coming in at number six another issue of 52 That's number 35 number five in the list ultimate spider-man 104 number four Amazing Spider-Man

537 which was a Civil War tie-in number three the 50th issue of Wolverine second best-selling comic in January Civil War return one of the one shots Marvel did and the best comic of the month Civil War number six number one comic from the month of January Come next well may look like a blockbuster month for Marvel listen to some of the stuff that's coming up first of all There's a new series called spider-man fairy tales

Kind of in the same tradition of the X-Men fairy tales The very first one has a version of Little Red Riding Hood starring Mary Jane that sounds exciting You've heard about the new Fantastic Four right the guys are involved at Black Panther storm thing in human torch, of course They have their hands full in May first of all, they're gonna find themselves in the Marvel zombies universe That's in a special crossover in Black Panther number 28 and they take on the powers of Galactus and Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four number

546 World War Hulk kicks off in May with massive destruction set in the World War Hulk prelude worldbreaker We'll see that then and also get a look behind the battle lines at a very special preview by Gary prank in Incredible Hulk number 106 May is also a big month for Iron Man Tony Stark takes on the Mandarin again in Iron Man number 18 and talking about the Marvel zombies There's a triple shot of zombie madness that month in addition to the stuff

We talked about in the Fantastic Four a little bit ago Well the third issue of Marvel zombies army of darkness combo ships alongside Marvel zombies dark days That's a one-shot that details where these zombies came from in the first place Silver server is back in his own title with a special miniseries called Silver Surfer Requiem written by J. Michael Straczynski Which sounds really good and Jeff Loeb David Finch John Romita jr.

And John Cassidy all do something called fallen sons one shots now These are all involving the death of one of the great Marvel heroes that we haven't really talked about yet But you'll see involvement here from Captain America Iron Man and Spider-Man There's one thing that was left over from the toy fair we gotta tell you about one of the best shows on television So we'll have one of the best lines in the toy stores

Box thinking It's Battlestar Galactica with all sorts of cool stuff now listen to this and they're not the toys you saw back in the 70s These are really really nice five inch figures that feature six Apollo and a really hard to find hot dog That's gonna be all over the internet going to eBay right now get in line for that Plus there's gonna also be a chief figure and a lot more available. They won't be coming until September

So there's probably gonna be some additions or subtractions to the list But you can count on the definitely a ball tar number six when those do hit the stores later this year speaking of Battlestar You know there's also good news about the fact it's been renewed for season number four on the sci-fi channel And there's a lot of talk about a direct to DVD Battlestar movie the deal is that sci-fi would produce the movie it would go direct to DVD and then soon after be shown on

The channel of course for everyone to see look for an announcement about that sometime probably around May of this year ComicMix calm ComicMix timeline February 20th 1969 well this week We giggled it not brand number 12 and spider-man made his real-world appearance in an issue of i magazine on the main newsstand Across where we read our comic books while Jim Staranko's eye-popping issues of Captain America was something

We were talking about in all the fan scenes and this particular issue the one that came out number 110 He debuted the ultra hot madam Hydra John Busanba blew us away with another thick 25 cents issue of silver surfer that was number four over a DC Gil Kane did an issue of Hawk and Dove the metal men died in issue number 37 this week to be re-worn as humans for that short-lived storyline in the next issue and

Superboy was buried in space in Adventure Comics number 379 That's why I make you feel a little old there right around this time in 1969 Jennifer Aniston was born when you went to the movies you saw Undefeated with John Wayne Rock Hudson and maybe you got to see sweet charity with Shirley McLean if you were old enough The last issue of Saturday evening post was on the newsstands and over on TV ABC had a big debut

They brought out something called this is Tom Jones. They thought was going to be a huge success It lasted not very many weeks But on Tuesdays there was a show that had been around a while and still had a run to go everyone loved Alexander Monday and it takes the thief starring Robert Wagner But I got to hear from a personal choice when it came to spies

Sunday was the real day and the real deal was the I am force As always should you or any of your I am force be caught or killed the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your action Top 40 radio was at its peak at this time, but FM was biting at its heels It wasn't gonna be long until there was something happening there The interesting thing about the top 40 at this time though

Was that you had records that were hits in some areas of the country and not only hits and others For example, if you lived in the Midwest of the South this week This song was all over the radio if you lived in the east or the west you heard it But it wasn't that big a hit still sounds good though. Here we go There's a list of some of the cool stuff coming out this week at the comic book stores around the country now again We'll give you our usual little disclaimer to tell you that it may vary from store to store Maybe your store is not going to carry all these items or certain parts of the country get things a week earlier a week late

So keeping all that in mind Let's talk about some of the cool things you can look for starting out from DC Comics last week We told you boys number seven was gonna be coming along Well, it got delayed that'll be in stores this week If you find yourself a little behind in what's going on with the checkmate series the very first volume of the trade paperback

Collection of the first part of checkmate a King's game comes out from DC this week Also a hardcover version of justice second volume of the Alex Ross beauty and that is gonna be absolutely gorgeous on my shelf I can hardly wait we talked earlier about what's going on with Wonder Woman Well, the fourth issue of Wonder Woman finally drags itself into the store this week Third issue with a really cool spirit series from DC and best of all brave and bold is back

Yep number one issue with two different covers for Mark Wade and George Perez and all the great talents involved Green Lantern Batman in there It's a really cool book and it comes out this week Speaking of covers and that sort of thing if you're the kind of person that collects the variants and second printings Here's some things you want to make sure you look for

Justice Society of America second printing on number two is out this week with a different cover Amazing Spider-Man second printing of number 537. This is with the Ron Garni cover is out this week Civil War number seven, of course comes out and that means the Civil War Michael Turner variant is out as well for number seven and punish a war journal a second printing of number two Especially yes has a Rick Olivetti. I believe did the cover on that one

Don't correct me if I'm wrong and it's gonna be out in the stores this week Speaking of Marvel again Civil War number seven top of the list You got to grab that spider-man number 538 amazing spider-man that is that's a Civil War tie-in Your mortal iron fist series if you've been watching what's going on there third issue of that comes along new Avengers Illuminati Second issue of that miniseries is along this week

Spider-man family number one X-men first class number six are all things to look forward to And one thing we want to point out to you if you've passed by the Marvel adventure series the stuff that they call the all-ages Stuff if you don't like the spider-man or the Fantastic Four take a look at what's going on in the Marvel adventures Avengers book It's a really really interesting retelling of that story and the storylines and those characters even Even with the fact that it's all wages. It's a really really good book number ten comes out this week

If you've got a couple extra bucks, give it a try From the independence this week over an image powers number 23 and a book that really deserves some attention If you've not read a book called true story swear to God It's been around as an independent for a little while It came to image just about three or four issues ago and a fourth issue is out this week. Give it a try

Cool stuff to look forward to put on your shelf the bad art collection from slave labor graphics is coming out and the people of tomorrow's Have their modern master series volume 11 as a softcover collection of Charles vessels work and it's a real beauty Now if you got some money left and want to head to the DVD counter at your local store Here's some things you can look for this week. The prestige is out on DVD man of the year with Robin Williams Another one of those animated things flushed away makes it over to DVD and the stuff that you never saw in the theaters and went direct

to disk open water to flight of fury by Steven Seagal and I had no idea he was still making movies and season one of this Why do the rest of us have to suffer because we're family Jennifer we do things together You gotta love Alex P Keaton ComicMix

dot-com New York Comic Con Well coming up in just a few days We're heading to the Big Apple for the second annual New York Comic Con now Don't worry if you can't go because we're gonna be there all weekend long

We're gonna cover all the really cool stuff But between now and then we're gonna throw you in on some of the things that are happening some of the announcements that are gonna Be made and generally get you all excited about the event Which again is gonna be big news for those of us on the East Coast One of the things that just got laid out

Diamond select toys are celebrating Buffy the Vampire Slayer's 10th anniversary of the show now how they're gonna do this is they're gonna break It up into two parts You can have a party to join the cast at a special party panel on Saturday morning Or you can come along for an afternoon autograph session Which includes again members from the cast some of that list who's gonna be there Nicholas Brendan who played Xander Juliet Landau?

Who played your Silla? Bianca Lawson who played Kendra and Elizabeth and Alan who played Amy the rat girl And there's a lot more characters to come along but the cool thing about this. There's a special Military Xander Harris exclusive figure that's only available at the show or later on if there's some left and the comic-con people can offer Speaking of things for the media by the way Saturday and Sunday live auditions for yes season number two of who wants to be a superhero

Cuz all the money all the women Even all the comic books in the world They can't substitute for that one person Yep Good old Stan is looking for somebody special and the sci-fi channel folks will be there talking to you as well if you'd like to
