The ComicMix podcast is in the air!

The first ComicMix podcast is now available for your listening pleasure!

A three-times weekly feature here at ComicMix, broadcaster Mike Raub has produced our initial 12 minute program featuring news, features and interviews. A new podcast will be available every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday — today’s podcast includes a look at new comics that are available at your friendly neighborhood comics shop, and this will be a feature of every Tuesday program. Thursday’s programs will feature reviews and Saturday’s will include full-length interviews.

Also featured in today’s podcast are salient mutterings from Peter David, The Beatles, and ComicMix’s editor-in-chief, and a nostalgic look at comics and popular culture that people were enjoying this week, back in 1963 and 1971.  All this plus updates on Indiana Jones and The Flash.

We encourage you all to participate in our fun and games. Contact us with any questions or comments and when we’ve got our ComicMix message boards up and running, join Mike and the ComicMix crew in our online dialog!

It's the osmond ComicMix mailbag all right click on the icon. Let's see what we got this week from Genzo hotdog at gmail.com

Thanks for writing Genzo and Genzo says I know superhero comics were big in the Golden Age followed by science fiction and war comics But what about romance titles when did they come along? Well Genzo was the post-war period Superhero comics were kind of dropping in sales and publishers were scrambling to try and find something to replace them It seemed that at the time a number of adult women were major consumers of comics

That's a little different and the closest thing in the genre at that time of course was Archie and his many clones that have premiered a couple of years earlier The idea of a comic version of the popular radio soap opera was actually conceived by two of Comics most well-known artists and writers of any time period these men kicked off a book called Young Romance in 1947 soon to be followed by a second title called Young Love and then every other publisher jumped on the bandwagon

Joe Simon and Jack Kirby Yeah, the guys who created Captain America and so much more a decade earlier premiered the very first romance comic by the mid 1950s Pretty much every publisher was churning these things out by the ton But by the end of the 70s the very last titles published by DC Comics faded away today There aren't really romance comics in that particular form, but you got to admit relationship comics like strangers in paradise kind of fit the bill

Genzo, thank you for your question. You can ask us anything you'd like to it's real easy Just whip it along the podcast at ComicMix calm and for more information on Joe Simon Jack Kirby Romance comics or even strangers in paradise. Just search right here ComicMix calm. Thank you. You've been a wonderful audience and good night Good night. Good night

That does it for a Tuesday podcast Thanks a lot for coming along a lot of big things coming up probably in less than 48 hours next time we get together We're gonna premiere our brand new review staff a whole bunch of people who have a whole lot of things to say about a whole bunch of comics that you may or may not agree with and then coming up after that on Saturday We talked more to my goal to unveil more of the secrets behind ComicMix
