! Comics go an ape, but in a good way. Hi, it's Mike Raub with a big chunk of summer reading, in fact an entire company with a whole bunch of diverse titles and even a comics magazine as well. Makes some great reading and maybe even a treasure trove of things you didn't even
know were in the comic store. Got that coming up on July 31st. 2008 ComicMix News! Both Geoff Johns and the Legion of Super Heroes are both making the trip to Smallville this season.
Johns, who you know, writes a whole bunch of super stuff for DC including the Final Crisis Legion of Three Worlds miniseries is writing an episode that will introduce the Legion to the continuity of Smallville. It'll turn up as episode 9 of the new season and it's appropriately entitled Legion. The Archie heroes on the way back who would have thought that maybe the gold key characters
will join them with new comics. That includes Magnus, Dr. Solar, Dr. Specter and more and allegedly they'll be coming to Dark Horse. Dark Horse has been reprinting of course Magnus and Dr. Solar Man of the Atom stories from the 60s in Omnibus hardcover editions and now they're doing new adventures once those
reprints run out. No dates or creators have been announced at this time. It was a controversy that began at the Wizard World Chicago when Dynamite Entertainment announced they were doing a new series of the fandom which had Alex Ross attached. Moonstone however said they were still going to continue publishing the book that they've
been putting out for a number of years. So what happens next? Well, it looks like it's all been worked out. The Dynamite feature with Alex Ross will be pushed back a little bit and the current publisher of the fandom will continue to be Moonstone.
This all comes on top of news that some of the guys involved in the series Carnival have written a script for a new fandom movie or TV pilot headed down the road for the Sci-Fi channel. No matter whose side you're on you have to admit it's been a hell of a year so far in presidential politics and how comics are getting involved. IDW is doing a unique venture in the history of publishing a pair of graphic novel biographies
of both of the presumptive presidential candidates. Presidential material Barack Obama is done by Jeff Merritt and Tom Morgan and presidential material John McCain is handled by Andy Helfer and Steven Thompson. Both of these graphic novels are set to be out right around the first part of October. There will also be a special trade paperback flipbook and they can be seen, previewed and

ComicMix Radio. ComicMix Radio. Summer is just rolling along and hopefully you've dug deep into that stack of unread comics that build up over the winter. We've got a big chunk for you to add to it right now.
In fact, it's an entire publisher. Ape Entertainment is what they're called and what do they do? Well, publisher Kevin Freeman is more than happy to fill us in. Sure, Ape Entertainment is a small press publisher. We've been around about five years, founded in 2003.
We put out a number of titles, full color, black and white, all sorts of different genres. I don't really pigeonhole ourselves into one particular type of comic. We also do t-shirts and all sorts of other things and we do Comics Now magazine which is a brand new magazine in the industry. What are some of the other titles that Ape offers?
Some of our best-selling titles we sell Athena Voltaire which is sort of our female version of Indiana Jones. Another one of our best sellers is The Black Coat which takes place in pre-revolutionary war America and The Black Coat is kind of James Bond meets Zorro for the Revolutionary War.
We also put out a number of anthologies here recently, The Fablewood Anthology, The Serial and Pajamas Anthology. We put out White Picket Fences which is a critically acclaimed book I describe as Leave it to Beaver meets War of the Worlds. We put out The Misadventures of Clark and Jefferson which is Cowboys vs. Aliens but
done well. Teddy Scares is a licensed product of ours which is what happens to your teddy bear's FVF throw them away or outgrow them or something like that. They get kind of ornery. And some of our newest stuff is Fem Noir is a new project we're excited about done by
Joe Staton who did Green Lantern and E-Man and a bunch of other things and it's a crime noir thriller. I have to tell you that I heartily recommend Fem Noir. It is one of Joe Staton's best pieces of work and one of the more interesting new comics that come along my stack in a long time.
Meanwhile from Ape there's Comics Now so why a comics company doing a comic magazine? Something we decided that the industry was ready for another magazine. Something that kind of fills the gap between say Wizard and Comics Journal. So it has in depth articles but it also has regular short columns. We do comic strips in there and there's a void I think in the comics magazine industry
now that we hope Comics Now fulfills. You certainly should be able to get Ape Entertainment titles in any good comic store and they're even easier to find on the web. We're all over the place on the internet. Again we've got the numbers for you the top ten graphic novels and comics for the month of June. At least the ones that blew the fastest out of the comic stores. Let's start with the graphic novels and add number ten the invincible trade paperback
out of this world. If you're keeping track that's number nine in that series. Captain America, the death of Captain America, the trade paperback election comes in at number nine. Green Lantern and the Sinestro Core War, the hardcover version of volume number two
of that one that comes in at number eight. Number seven the Marvel zombies hardcover that's the second in that series. At number six the all-star Batman and Robin the boy wonder hardcover again volume one of that collection. Number five Umbrella Academy Apocalypse Suite, a great trade paperback collection of a really
good comic. Number four astonishing X-Men volume four it's called Unstoppable it is the trade paperback collection of that series. At number three the Walking Dead trade paperback number eight in the series called Made to Suffer.
At number two the tenth of the fables trade paperback The Good Prince and another vertigo title of number one Why the Last Man, Wise and Wherefores volume ten from DC. Over to the best selling comics at number ten Avengers invaders number two for Marvel. Number nine Justice League of America number 22 number eight fourth issue of the Red Hulk series.
Number seven Mighty Avengers number 15 that is a secret invasion tie-in. Number six, Alt of it's three, number four. At number five Wolverine number 66 first of the old man Logan storyline and that is from Marvel as well. At number four New Avengers number 42 another secret invasion tie-in.
Number three the second issue of Final Crisis from DC. At number two, Alt of it Origins number one from Marvel and at number one Secret Invasion number three. ComicMix timeline July 31st. 1961.
Comics this summer were desperately trying to hold on to their ten cent price tag but we didn't care we just wheeled down to the drugstore with dimes in hand to get action comics number 280 which had a brainiac story. Adventure comics number 288 we also got all American men of war number 87 from DC and of course detective comics number 295 with Batman and Robin and the first issue of something
called the Sea Devils. Marvel wasn't quite up to speed yet at least for another month or so in 1961 this month they gave us Amazing Adventures at number five and from Archie we got Adventures of the Fly number 14. 1961.
In the news a confessed killer pulled a gun at a Miami airport and tried to board a plane to Havana Cuba. The Soviet Communist Party declared the start of a golden age for the Russian people. Meanwhile President Kennedy assured Chinese diplomats that the US would fight the spread of communism in any Asian country.
In the movies there was the pleasure of his company a lot of sweaty guys in Ben Hur and probably an equal amount in something called the Young Savages and Hailey Mills times two in a movie that began a remake a few decades later and a hit song this summer from Disney as well. TV tonight had to tell the truth Cheyenne the Spike Jones summer show an episode of
Anne Southern and a spin-off show called Pete and Gladys. 1961. On the radio was a studio session band for the stacks label it was a house band for the record group and they were on many of the backgrounds of some of the big stacks hits of the early 1960s.
The group had some superstars of their own who later went on to form groups like the Memphis Horns, the Packers and Booker T and the MG's. This is for Steve Cropper Booker T himself and on organ Isaac Hayes as the group the Markies and last night.
