Hi, it's Mike Raub and it's about that time of the month where there's a lot of choices waiting for you inside the Comic Shop and this week we begin a process to help you narrow it down to our 3 favorites We'll tell you all about that coming up on August 19th, 2008 ComicMix.use The Hollywood Reporter says that director Matthew Vaughn has raised the $30 million necessary to begin making the film
based on Mark Bellar and John Romita Jr.'s kick-ass comic book the one published by Marvel's ICON series, which is creator owned Vaughn chose to raise the money himself when a number of Hollywood studios passed on the project So far, again according to the reporter, a few minor cast members have been added but the lead role has not yet been chosen
There might be a little snag with Watch but according to Deadline Hollywood, a federal judge has denied Warner Bros. motion to dismiss a lawsuit by 20th Century Fox to stop the production of the film In February of this year, Fox filed a suit against the Warner Bros. project claiming they had the exclusive rights to develop, produce and distribute the film based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons
Warner Bros. motion for a dismissal of the lawsuit and the US District Court at this point has not given them that choice Keep an eye on that one Meanwhile, the vacuum that Warner Bros. created by shifting the release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince from November to July of next year has been absorbed by Twilight
It now moves to be released on the 21st of this year from the original release date of December 12 College Design is publishing a book later this month I think you might find an easy addition to your shelf It's the 500 Essential Anime Movies The Ultimate Guide It's a 528 page volume done by the person who did the Anime Encyclopedia
and it's Helen McCarthy It covers mostly films that are available in the US and in English as well It also features top 10 lists for kids under 5 and for older kids as well There'll be plot synopsis listings and a lot more It makes a great companion piece to the 500 Essential Graphic Novels book also published by Collins
a couple of weeks back here in the US If you're a child of the 70s and were raised on Sita Marty Prof and Hanna Barbera as the Banana Splits Well, you've got great news coming from Warner Bros. Consumer Products who are launching a huge new revival of the splits That includes a debut of a whole bunch of new shorts and music videos on the Cartoon Network mainly between the hours of 9am to 2pm weekdays
and also on Boomerang as well There'll be a new Banana Splits website, DVDs, music CDs from Universal Records and a lot more By the way, did you know that there's the Banana Splitsville Live area for kids at the Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with rides, concerts and a play area too? Look for a lot more coming between now and the holiday season including new Banana Splits toys, games, books and clothing too
Hi, this is Jade Wieblin and you're listening to ComicMix What's coming out this is This Week Grab that pencil and paper before we head to the Comic Shop but This Week is something a little different as we plow through all the new titles We're going to go out on a limb at least three times every week with a best bet
These aren't necessarily the best books out there, they're just the ones that we know we're going to enjoy the most and maybe if you can take a minute to page through them when you're standing at the rack, well you might like one of them as well This week we begin with Arcana Studios, a whole bunch of titles from them including Corrective Measures, the graphic novel Marlowe's Soul of Darkness number one and Killer number eight which is a 10 issue series From Archie Comics this week, something interesting, the Katie Keene Special Trade paperback featuring some wonderful work
by ComicMix's own Andrew P. Boy, check that out Conan the Sumerian number two comes in from Dark Horse as well as Fear Agent number 23 and Helm number two which is a four issue series The Dark Horse run of Rex Mundy continues with issue number 13 and the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic number 32 From DC we start with Air number one, there's Batgirl number two which is a six issue series Batman and the Outsiders at number 10 this week, Birds of Prey at number 21
There's Brave and Bold number 16, Casey Blue Beyond Tomorrow hits number four That'll be six issues when it's done The DC Special from the Teen Titans group Cyborg number four hits again This is a five issue series as well as the DC Wildstorm Dream War number five which again is a six issue run and that brings us to our first best bet
It's cool From the Final Crisis run, this is the one that you really don't want to miss Final Crisis Legion of Three Worlds number one It'll be a five issue run done by Geoff Johns and the interesting part here is they claim, in fact they guarantee that Jeff's going to finally make sense of all the Legion of Super Heroes continuity
for that alone, it is worth a page through Flash number 43 comes this week from DC as well as Justice League of America number 24 Ranthenegar Holy War number four this week as well, that's eight issues in a run Robin number 177, Sandman Presents the Dead Boys, Detectives all in the trade paperback this week There's Scalp number 20 and at the showcase volume this time, showcase the Atom to the trade paperback
finally makes it out, that's volume two by the way Spirit number 20 this week from Mark Evanier and Sergio Aragonis, Stormwatch, Worlds and Disrupta number 13 For the all ages group there's Super Friends number six and for any ages there's Superman Batman number 51 as well as some of the great classic Superman stories They're now up to some of the really good stories of the interesting part of the Golden Age
in Superman Chronicles volume five, the trade paperback Tangent Superman's reign number six chugs along, there'll be 12 of those before it's done Of course there's a Trinity this week, that's number 12 and World of Warcraft number 10 from DC Devil's Dew brings us our second best bet of the week, it's an ongoing title there called Drafted It's up to issue number 10 but there is a trade paperback out there as well
Take a minute to page through it, a lot of people think it is one of the best comics out there right now Bar none, any company Also this week from Devil's Dew there's Hack Slash series number 15 Couple of different covers on that one and you know there's a movie on the way as well Meanwhile writer Justin Marks tells us that taking the lead character from this book into film was not that difficult a task
I mean she just feels so real and I always add some credit to Tim as a creator and Vlad too for that matter but for doing that relationship up so nicely but it just seems such a natural fit to a movie that it was a no brainer Also from Devil's Dew there's Ninja Town number 1 this week and Voltron a Legend Forge number 2 From Dynamic Forces Project Superpowers number 5, it's a 7 issue run
There's a bunch of different covers on that one including a San Diego Comic Con variant that your retailer just might have From Image there's a deluxe edition hardcover of the Art of Mark Silvestri this week, really beautiful book Charlotte and Ball number 3 from Image and Dark Ivory hits number 3 in that 4 issue run There's Mad Man Atomic Comics number 10 and Youngblood first volume of the trade paperback of the Redone Youngblood series Over to Marvel this week, Fool Killer White Angels number 2 that's a 5 issue series
There's Ghost Rider number 26 and this week begins the Monkey variants at Marvel If you don't know what those are, well talk to your retailer because it takes a special kind of twist to be able to grab those If you're lucky Guardians of the Galaxy number 3, the second printing variant is out this week as well as Guardians of number 4 Which is a Secret Invasion tie-in
Another Secret Invasion tie-in in Incredible Hercules number 120 There's Iron Fist, The Origin of Danny Rann, that should be interesting as well as Iron Man Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. number 32 Marvel 1985 hits issue number 4, that'll be 6 when it's done For the All Ages group there's Marvel Adventures 2 in 1 number 14 Marvel Spotlight, it covers the Spider-Man brand new day series in case you've been waiting to hop on
This could be your chance Mootide number 21 this week has a Monkey variant, watch out for that Punisher number 61 this week as well as Punisher War Journal Classic on the trade paperback this week Secret Invasion, well there's a whole bunch of variants here Secret Invasion number 2, the third printing variant
Secret Invasion number 3, the second printing variant this week And Scar, Son of Alt number 1, the third printing sketch variant All available if you're lucky this week from Marvel Scrolls vs. Power Pack, speaking of Secret Invasion, that hits issue number 2, that'll be 4 issues when it's done Squadron Supreme 2 number 2 this week
Fru Bleevers number 2 in a 5 issue run and then back to the variants for Ultimate Origins number 2 Second printing variant of that one as well Ultimate Spider-Man in another trade paperback, this makes number 20 in that run This one's called His Amazing Friends Ultimate's a 3 number 4 second printing variant of that one as well
And then our last best bet of the week, this time another Secret Invasion tie-in But from a guy that sure knows how to pull it together It'll be great to see what Peter David does with Secret Invasion in X Factor number 34 Also this week another X Factor special this time Laila Miller X-Men First Class volume 2 number 15 this week in the trade paperback of the X-Men Divided We Stand storyline
Speaking of that, there's another Divided We Stand tie-in this week in Young X-Men number 5 from Marvel This week at the DVD stores, some come from theaters, some come direct to DVD There's some interesting choices including Street Kings, Miss Pettigrew lives for a day, life before her eyes The remake of Prom Night, Constantine's Sword is out this week as well And a movie called Deal 2
Direct to DVD, The Scorpion King 2 this week And also a movie that really had a short life in the theaters so it's almost direct to DVD It is called The Recount as well There's Orson Welles, Don Quixote this week as well as a repackaged version of the incredible Anthony Hopkins in Nixon A lot of choices from TV this week starting with House season 4, Gossip Girl season 1
In case you want to get geared up for the beginning of the new season of them in a couple of weeks There's Dexter season 2 and Terminator, the Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 1 of that, a lot of folks are saying to give it a second chance before the new season starts I may consider doing that myself Also this week, Transformers animated season 1 and Justice League of America from the Cartoon Network season 1

As well as Black Hawk number 237 with the Superhero Black Hawks Brave and Bold number 74 had Batman teaming up with the Metal Men that was Challenges of the Unknown number 58 Hawkman number 22, almost the tail end of that book and the artwork sure showed it House of Mystery number 170 and Superman number 200, not quite the celebration you would have expected And Tales of the Unexpected number 103 from DC
At Marvel we got Thor number 145 with Odin and all the Asgardians teaming up with Thor Strange Tales number 162 with Nick Fury of course and Tales of Suspense number 95 with Tony Stark and S.H.I.E.L.D. together in a storyline For Marvel this week there was also Kid Cole Outlaw number 137 and not Brand Yuck number 4 Charlton gave us Captain Atom number 89 by Steve Ditko and a very interesting and often overlooked
Charlton premiere number 2 with a story called Children of Doom by ComicMix's own Daniel Neal Wrapping it up this week, threw another quarter on the counter for Thunder Agents number 16 1967 In the news the governor of Louisiana said his National Guardsmen were armed with live ammo and told to Shoot quick as both blacks and Ku Klux Klan members planned to stage protests
The Atomic Energy Commission conducted a low-level test bombing at their Las Vegas facility It was a 19th such test so far this year and stepped up air raids over North Vietnam caused the US another three war planes bringing the total To 647 downed aircraft so far In the movies there was a greatest show on Earth, The Dirty Dozen in the heat of the night And a lot of young people starting to fill up seats for movies like Disco Tech Holiday that featured
Not only Freddy the Dreamers but a lot of other top 40 acts like The Bachelors, Peter and Gordon, Milly Small and Freddy Cannon With all that, who needs a plot? Oddly enough the number one song of the week also had the number one movie That one certainly had a story And a gold record too for Lulu with To Sir With Love
TV Tonight had episodes of Mission Impossible, Get Smart, Saturday Night at the Movies gave us a Tony Curtis flick 40 Bounds of Trouble and then it was also something on NBC called Please Don't Eat the Daisies If there ever was a wacky 60's theme song, there you go On the radio an interracial pop group from Allentown, PA formed in the 60's Who managed to get Nick Ashford, Valerie Simpson and Mel Bemore as backup singers
They hit the chart at least three times but this time was the biggest It's Jerry and the Technique, Sin Apple features Pump You Pie See that used to be touch fun Apple bitches pumpin' fire, who not ready? Comic bits radio
