ComicMix Radio: Cameras Roll On The Battlestar Film
Production began this week on the next Battlestar:Galactica TV movie and fans are rejoicing. However, there is one cast member who is still in shock that his character has survived this long. We talk to him and get a few bits of news on Caprica as well, plus:

Broadcast 258 Cameras roll on the Battlestar movie and we've got a view from the inside. Hi, it's Mike Raub and you know nobody really wants to say goodbye to Battlestar Galactica, but looks like cameras are rolling on what's going to be the final two-hour movie, but when will we see that? And what's the latest on Caprica? We've got it all coming up on September. 2011
ComicMix News This year's Treehouse of Horror Halloween special on The Simpsons has a couple of good parodies. One will be an attack on It's a Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown that features Bart as Charlie Brown, Milhouse as Linus and Lisa as Sally. It also has a soundtrack from the original Peanuts special and then the second parody will be one on the Transformers movie when Bart gets an actual Transformer from a 99 cent store and Springfield gets attacked. Again, this version of the Transformers will be based on the Michael Bay movie and not on the animated series. And Treehouse of Horror airs in October on The Simpsons on Fox. The second season of The Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures begins with part one of the first episode airing on Monday the 29th on BBC One and more than likely not that much later on here on the internet.
The Sea BBC Channel in England will air the second part immediately following the first but then BBC One will air the second part regularly a week later on October the 6th. By the way, it looks like most of the second season of Sarah Jane will consist of two part episodes. Well alert to save the show people, Joss Whedon's Dollhouse set to premiere in mid-season on Fox is closed down production just for two weeks though to work on rewrites. After finishing the third episode, Whedon decided the upcoming scripts needed time for rewrites and production will begin again on September the 25th. MacFarlane Toys is releasing a series of action figures based on Halo Wars. That's the upcoming real-time strategy game that in turn is based on the best-selling Halo video game series.
The figures have a little bit of limited mobility of the waist and they come in three packs retailing for just about ten bucks apiece. Three of the four sets in series one feature UNSC troops and the fourth set contains two Covenant elites as well. Series one comes along in March 2009 just after the February release of the Halo Wars video game. And don't forget Halo itself, series three of those figures from MacFarlane are due out later this month in comic source. The New York Anime Festival and Viz Pictures are getting together this weekend to hold Death Note Day at the largest bookstore in North America.
That's of course New York City's Kina Kunia bookstore comes up on this Sunday which is the 14th. The bookstore located at 1073 Avenue, the Americas in Manhattan by the way if you're on the East Coast, has a day-long series of events celebrating the US DVD release of the Death Note Motion Picture. The Death Note movie goes on sale at other retailers next week but if you want to get to the event and make it to the bookstore you can get it this Sunday the 14th. There will be special promotions and limited edition Death Note theatrical posters to be given away as well.
And by the way Death Note 2, the last name, premieres in select theaters in the country. Anime fans can't wait for this one on October 15th and 16th. Hey, I'm Milo Vince Millia, you're listening to ComicMix. ComicMix Radio. ComicMix Radio. A two-hour Battlestar Galactica movie that you've been waiting for is underway. Shooting began just a couple of days ago on Monday in Vancouver, Canada.
And your favorite characters look like they're along for the ride. The SyFy Network confirmed that so far Edward James Olmos, Michael Turrico, Aaron Douglas, Dean Stockwell, Tricia Helfer, Grace Park and others will be part of the movie. It's written by Battlestar co-executive producer and writer Jane Espenson and Edward James Olmos will be directing the story as well. And as everyone excited, you bet Michael Turrico, who plays Sam Anders in the regular series and who'll be in the movie as well, is especially grateful for a part that originally really didn't have much of a shelf life. It was a plot device, really. A dramatic device to create some tension between Apollo and Starbuck.
You have your leads who are obviously attracted and that makes a great, you know, in every show that has a male and female lead, there's always that tension. If they go there too soon and they've got nowhere to pick the story, so enter Anders, who becomes a foil, really, for Apollo and becomes a love star. But I thought, okay, I'll show up for a couple episodes, we'll have a roll in the hay and then she'll kick you to the curb, right? Because the guys just got to get back to Apollo and that was just their way so they could say, you know, he could be jealous. And then they said, how about come back for a couple more? And then three more.
And then that's it. And then season three, okay, just the first three, but maybe five. That's it. Okay, we're going to be doing the seven episode, you know, and then it's eight. And then so then, yeah, that was still in a recurring status at that point. So then when that happened, it was confusing and flattering and all the things it was because flattering that they had faith in me to want to include me to be part of such an important part of the story. There seems to be a bit of a controversy about when we'll see this movie either before the last season airs early in 2009 or after it finishes up in the springtime. Just like there's still a lot of questions to be answered about when we'll see Caprica, the prequel to Battlestar, that's allegedly going to follow it on the sci fi network sometime in 2009.
Producer David Echos says things are still moving along at a rapid pace. We finished shooting the pilot. We're breaking stories for the first batch of episodes, which hopefully we'll have a reason to produce. And, you know, it's it's still early days, but I would say on the whole, we're incredibly excited. And the truth is probably more even more than the Battlestar mini series hopeful and anticipating a successful series run with us. Doing a follow up series that's actually a prequel is something that hasn't been done a whole lot in television. And we have to admit it's a risky move. But David said it was the only one logical in the Battlestar universe. It was the only idea that Ron and I were taking around as a way to sort of continue that lineage in a different way. And Rami Abishan came in with a pitch to the studio that happened to coincide with what the studio knew we were talking about.
And so Universal Hook Ron and I up with Rami and we sort of put our three heads together and and hatch this. So but it was it was, you know, kind of a pleasant surprise when the network finally decided to make it. You know, that script's been sitting there for over a year. ComicMix radio. ComicMix timeline September 11 2008. As we get the comic stores, DC was still getting some mileage out of those old brave and bold stories with the best of brave and bold. This was number four in that series. There was Checkmate number 10, Doc Savage number 13, Flash number 20, Firestorm was all the way up to number 79. We got Hawk and Dove number four and Justice League International number 21. Couple of forgotten titles from Marvel. How about St. George? That was issue number four this week. Doctor Zero hit number six. There was also the more familiar Uncanny Exped at number 239, Punisher number 14.
Solo Avengers rolled along at issue number 13 and there was Exterminator's number three from Marvel. At first we got American flag number eight from Howard Shaken and Dark Horse gave us that gorgeous Godzilla series issue number four this week. 1988. In the news, Democratic presidential hopeful Michael Dukakis turned up the heat on the campaign trail in his fight against Republican George Bush. Meanwhile, Bush zigzag from state to state promising new policies for his bid for the White House. And in the newspapers, Far Side creator Gary Larson said he was taking a 14 month vacation from his daily cartoon. In the movies, we loved who frame Roger Rabbit. Tom Hanks was in big Freddie Chugged along at nightmare on Elmer Street number four. There was Eddie and Coming to America and the movie that made it okay to earn seven bucks an hour. Mix and drinks.
A great song from the Beach Boys and Tom Cruise not quite so spooky yet in cocktail. On TV tonight, an episode of my doodads. Most of the action though was over on Fox with Married with Children. It's Gary Shandling show Tracy Allman and a little show you might not remember, but if you ever have a chance to catch it, trust me, you will like it. Remember one called duet on the radio, a Cleveland born musician who knew exactly what he wanted to do and age two. He taught himself piano bought a Beatles chord book and taught himself to play guitar and had his first group with a local hit in 1967. It took another five years though for him to form another group that made it to the top of the charts all around the world. And that group was the Razz Berries. He broke off on his own through the mid 70s and beyond. And a lot of different times of the top 10 and with songs like All By Myself and Never Gonna Fall in Love Again. Finally by the mid 1980s or so, after retiring for a brief time, he came back strong with a big song from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. However, before he stepped out of the spotlight one more time, Eric Carmen had yet another trip to the top with Make Me Lose Control. Turn the radio on.
