ComicMix Radio: Rosario Dawson Steps Up
After laying dormant for nearly a year, Rosario Dawson is ready to kick start The Occult Crimes Task Force back to comics and a film. She tells us why she believes morethan ever in comic based movies, plus:

You know, Rosario Dawson has had a lot of big plans for her Cold Crimes Task Force series in comics and on the big screen as well. And now she wants to get it finally on the road to success. All that plus a look at what's in the stores this weekend. Boy, there's some great stuff waiting for you. We'll tell you about it coming up on September 23rd, 2008.
ComicMix News. I think Hollywood is going towards making comic book movies because they know, A, they have a huge fan base to kind of play with, but they also have incredible stories with perfect arcs, great characters. I mean, that's what the whole point is. If comic is not going to do well, unless it's a great story and has really great moments in it.
And now Hollywood, I feel like, is running out of ideas. So they're running to this industry for those ideas. Rosario Dawson says, don't give up on the occult crimes task force. Right now it's in the property hands of the Weinstein Company. Rosario says she and her people are trying to get away from there and get it in the hands of somebody who might actually make the movie sometime in the near future.
Meanwhile, she also hopes to get another comic miniseries published in the very near future as well. Right now, though, no word on when that'll come or who will be the publisher. Well, later on, we'll tell you about a whole plethora of Godfather DVDs that are coming out this week, including one called Godfather of the Capital of Restoration. But if you want to see previews of this as well as how they did the restoration and a lot of really interesting things about the film, the makings of the film and the interactive timeline of how things happen in the Godfather story, there's a new website you may want to check out. Something new on the way from the Sci-Fi channel is a drama series called Warehouse 13. There's 11 one hour episodes planned and a two hour pilot that's already done. The series stars Eddie McCormick as one of two Secret Service agents who after saving the life of the president is transferred to South Dakota in a place called Warehouse 13 that houses a strange object. Look for Warehouse 13 to debut next summer sometime around July of 2009. A few weeks back, we talked about Devil's Dew and their plans to bring Vampire Hunter D into comics.
Now, it looks like there's some good people attached to it that include Jimmy Palmiati. Jimmy's going to be taking on the American version of the classic Vampire Slayer. The series, which is subtitled American Wasteland, is not on the schedule yet. Hi, this is Rosario Dawson and you're listening to ComicMix. ComicMix Radio.
What's coming out this week? Some really interesting choices in the comic shops this week. We're going to prove it by going right to our very first best bet. It's cool. Flash Gordon number one, another one of those comics that had its little minor printing problems back in business, back on the shelves with a couple of variants as well.
By the way, this is not based on that ridiculous TV show. Check out this incarnation of Flash Gordon. From Dark Horse, Berserk the Trade Paperback, volume number 25 if you're keeping a big show full of those. Hellboy, the Crooked Man number three winds up that many series. There's the My Name is Bruce one shot based on the upcoming Bruce Campbell movie written by Mark Verheiden.
From Dark Horse as well, there's Solomon Kane number one, first of a five issue series with a couple of different variants, including one by the Incredible Joe Kupert. Look for that one if you can. And also from Dark Horse Star Wars Legacy number 28. From DC, they cleaned it up and now it's out and back on the shelves. It's all star Batman and Robin number 10 with a variant edition and no dirty words included.
There's Ambush Bug here, none number three. That's a six issue series from DC. Batman Gotham after midnight hits number five. That'll be 12 issues when it's done. There's Blue Beetle number 31, Chuck number four, just in time for the season premiere in just about a week.
Let's go around on the comics. Chuck lasts about six issues. There's Fables number 76 and the second printing variant of Final Crisis Legion of Three Worlds number one this week. Also Jack of Fables number 26, Legion of Superheroes number 46, Madame Xanadu number four, also from Vertigo. Northlanders number 10, Keith Givens Reign in Hell number three, which will be eight issues when it's done.
And then our next best bet. A lot of things happening in the Superman universe thanks to the direction of Geoff Johns and James Robinson is doing his best to keep the flag high in Superman, the regular title. This issue number 681 really deserves a look through. Also Superman Batman number 52 this week, Supernatural Rising Sun winds up that six issue series based on the TV show. There's Teen Titans number 63, Trinity of course, it's number 17.
There's Wildcats number three from DC as well this week. Check the indie section for Desperado Publishing's Necessary Evil this week from Dynamic Forces Project Superheroes continues. There's a couple of different covers, including one by Alex Ross. This is issue six and a seven issue run. And also from Dynamic, there is the Zorro number seven.
Great comics, Disney reprints. In fact, they're best sellers from Gemstone Publishing as we told you a few days ago. This week you get Walt Disney Comics and Stories number 694 and Uncle Scrooge number 379. From Image, we hit our next best bet. It's Garth Innes and our buddy Jimmy Palmieri together in a five issue run for a series called Back to Brooklyn.
First issue here, which also has by the way an incentive variant cover if you're lucky enough to get it. This crime drama is going to be hot. Get it while you can. I'm guessing it'll be gone by the end of the week. There's Dead Ahead number one, which will be a three issue series from Image.
Golly number two, I Kill Giants number three, which is a seven issue run. M3 number one, which will be three issues. Per Haffadot's number four, Proof number 12. Red Rocket is collected in a limited edition hardcover and a regular trade paperback. And also from Image, Spawn number 183 and Youngblood number five.
From Marvel, get ready, get set. There is a ton of second issues and variants this week. So keep that pencil handy starting with Amazing Spider-Man number 568. Second printing variant there. There's Angel Revelations number five, which winds that one up.
Black Panther number 41 is the Secret Invasion tie-in. And there's Daredevil number 111, which has an oddly placed variant to this one as well. Check that out if you can. Secret Invasion tie-ins continue with Deadpool number two. There's an Ed McGinnis variant here.
Fantastic Four True Story number three is part of a four issue series when that's done. There's a Mortal Iron Fist Orson Randwell Death Queen this week. One-shot tie-in from Marvel. Marvel 1985 number five, it'll be six issues when it's done as well. There's Marvel Adventures Fantastic Four number 40 and Marvel Adventures Super Heroes for the All Ages group.
There's a Marvel Monsters poster book this week. There's Ms. Marvel number 31, which has a monkey variant. There's the New Warriors number 16, Nova number 17. That's the Secret Invasion tie-in. And long last, Powers number 30 finally on the stand.
There's Punisher kills the Marvel Universe, a second printing variant of that. Went from a few weeks ago. Runaways three number two, Samurai Legend number one, which has a variant issue. And then Secret Invasion, Amazing Spider-Man number two, it's a three issue Secret Invasion tie-in. And they get ready for a whole pile of variants here.
Secret Invasion number three, there's a third printing sketch variant there. Secret Invasion in humans number one, second printing variant. Just like one for Secret Invasion Thor number one and Secret Invasion X-Men number one. Speaking of Secret Invasion, She-Hulk 2 number 33, that's a tie-in this week. There's Scar, Son of Hulk, Presents the Savage World number one.
Thunderbolts number 124, yep, another Secret Invasion tie-in. From the Ultimate Line, Ultimate Fantastic Four X-Men annual number one. The Uncanny X-Men Divided We Stand Storyline Collection begins with a trade paperback this week. There's Wolverine, a first class, the trade paperback rookie. Again, another collection that begins here.
There's also a one-shot Wolverine Roar. There's X-Force number seven for Marvel. And then we move over to Two Marbles for a couple of great things to wind up your reading this week. Back issue number 30, great stuff in there. And draw number 16 from Two Marbles.
This week a few of the bigger summer movies make it over to DVD starting with Sex in the City. Leatherheads, Deception as well on disc and the independent hit Run Fat Boy Run this week on DVD. Also this week, one of the almost direct DVD features that just happened to have in it. The guy from Heroes you saw last night, Milo Ventimiglia's one little foray into the feature film business this summer. Was something called Pathology.
It's about a group of friends and pathologists that get a God Complex and start killing people for sport. Sex, drugs and murder in the medical world. Catch that on DVD this week as well as direct to disc, Mother of Tears and Sundown. Special editions, blue rays and repackages this week include the Godfather on Blu-Ray plus some individual special editions of those movies. There's Greased, a Rock and Rydell edition which comes in a leather jacket believe it or not.
And LA Confidential as well as Reno 911 both repackaged in special editions this week. Then we move on to TV and boy is there a bunch. Boston Legal's season 4 is on DVD this week. As well as Friday the 13th, the series, remember that one from the 80's and 90's. Season 1 of that is collected.
Season 2 of Brothers and Sisters. Season 1 of the Emmy-nominated Samantha Who is on DVD this week as well. And 2 and a half men the complete season 4 this week on DVD. ComicMix Radio. ComicMix Timeline.
September 23rd 1984. In comic stores this week both DC and Marvel were doing their best to try something different with series from DC like Blue Devil which was at number 7. And remember the new talent showcase. It was already up to issue number 12 from DC. There was also Green Lantern number 183.
Infinity Egg number 9 and Legion of Super Heroes number 5. Marvel this week we got Power Bag number 5. Indiana Jones was chugging along with his further adventures. Up to number 24 and then we got a couple of debuts. There was Iceman number 1 and Beauty and the Beast number 1 both miniseries from Marvel as well as the 18th issue of The Thing.
First came as GrimJack number 3 this week from Jon Ostrander and Tim Truman. 1990. In the news despite recent suicide bombings the US announced plans to keep its diplomatic corps in Lebanon. Meanwhile the US also may step in to mediate troops withdrawals in the conflict with Israel and Syria. And a 60 minute screw doing a story on drug testing in the military was banned from the Louisiana Air Force Base.
In the movies this week your ticket could get you a chance to see Steve and Lily in all of me. There's the evil men do. Ghostbusters still hanging in the top 5 at ticket purchases. There was Windy City red dawn but it was a color of money that continued to keep this movie on top in the box office and on the radio as well. Third week on top for Purple Rain.
TV Tonight had episodes of Punky Brewster, Night Rider, There was Aftermesh, Hard 1984. He went out on his own in 1975 and by 1980 had his first Grammy for best R&B performance. A little overshadowed by his brother, he's the Jackson known as Jermaine and Dynamite.
