Broadcast, 288. ComicMix.com Alex Ross, Prince Namor and Mickey Mouse. ComicMix.com Hi, it's Mike Raub. That's just part of what makes up the shopping list this week is we head to the comic stores and then over the DVD rack.
Got some great stuff to point out. I'll start that all up in a couple of minutes on November 18th. 2008 ComicMix News. Finally some movement on the television season. Some are coming. Most are going though. A lot of big changes in the next few weeks. One of the things that seems to be on the edge of course is the fate of ABC's Pushing Daisies. But here's a couple of interesting notes on that.
A lot of strong rumors about Pushing Daisies creator Brian Fuller coming over to help resurrect heroes on NBC. He was involved in the beginnings of that series back during season one. But what happens to Pushing Daisies after that? Well right now there's 13 episodes that have been ordered. We've pretty much seen almost all those. And ABC has not ordered any more episodes. So what happens next? Well here's where it gets a little interesting.
Fuller says that he plans on wrapping up the story in a comic book series. No publisher mentioned yet although he said he is leading toward DC, possibly Wildstorm. And he said that the comics would then clear the slate for a Pushing Daisies movie later on down the road. Meanwhile the CW and Warner Bros. television have pulled the plug on the Grayson's pilot. That's the one that was supposed to involve the life of Dick DJ Grayson before he becomes Robin.
Kind of the same way that Tom Welling plays Superboy who really isn't Superboy in Smallville. No new announcements have been made about possible superhero series coming to replace Smallville from the CW next season. You heard a little bit about this and yes it is true. The New York Comic Con and MTV are working together to cast a fanboy for a segment in the True Life docuseries on MTV. Now here's the deal. You have to be 16 to 28 years old and be a fanatic about comic books, anime, fantasy or manga.
And strongly consider trying out for the opportunity to dress up as your favorite character. And then be followed around by a camera crew at this year's New York Comic Con. Meanwhile Comic Con has announced that George Perez is their next guest of honor on the list.
He'll be making his first convention appearance in well over a year and doing a special benefit to help the folks at Hero Initiative as well. Perez is the second guest of honor announced for the show. Last month J. Michael Straczynski headed that list. And a cool story for people probably born before 1976. Those after probably are to scratch in their head.
But DC says they're going to be reviving adventure comics, one of the longest running titles from DC. Back in the 40s, 50s, 60s, even into the 70s as well. Internet rumors attached to this say that the new series of adventure comics will be the eventual home of the next revival of the Legion of Super Heroes. Hi, this is Paul Levitt, president and publisher of DC Comics, and this is Comic Con. It is a week before the big shopping season kicks off and you might consider it to be the calm before the storm.
Not necessarily the deal in comic shops. Dark Horse kicks it off with Kona and the Samaria number five. There's the goon number 30. Helm, the mini-series, winds up at issue number four in that four-issue run. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic number 35 and the style school graphic novel hits volume number three from Dark Horse.
From DC, there's Ambush Bug, year number four. That's a six-issue run. Batgirl hits number five. There'll be six issues of that when it's done. Batman R.I.P. gears up.
Big things happening there over the next few weeks. It continues this week in Batman and the Outsiders number 13. There's Batman Gotham Underground collected in a trade paper bag. There's Brave and Bold number 19. Countdown to Final Crisis continues to be collected.
This is volume four in that trade series. Ex Machina hits number 39 this week. Also collected, Fables, the 11th trade paperback in that series. We get a flash number 246. Greatest Hits number three.
That's a six-issue run. Elblazer number 249 this week and the second volume of The Heroes are in cover. Hopefully a little better than the TV show has been. Jack Kirby's the Demon Omnibus hardcover collection this week and then our first best bet. If you didn't catch last week's JSA Kingdom Come Special with Superman,
try it this week. This time the attention centers on McGog and again Art in Writing by Alex Ross and a varied cover as well. The Rann/Thanagar Holy War continues in number seven. One more to go on that one. There's Mad Kids number 13, Robin number 180 and the Robin Violin Tendency trade paperback.
Scalp comes in at number 23. We get the New Spirit series at number 23 as well. And the Spirit Special. This is a very unique edition containing almost a spirit primer for those who aren't familiar and want to get geared up in the movie that's coming out in just a bit over a month.
Stormwatch PhD hits number 16. Super Friends is at number nine. The new Krypton story continues in Supergirl number 35 with great work by Jamal Igel in there. Also a varied edition of that one. There's Superman, Supergirl, Maelstrom number two.
That'll be five issues when it's done. And Tangent Superman's reign number nine, which is a 12 issue run. Amanda Connors, Terra hits issue number two. There'll be four in that one when it's over. There's Tiny Titans number 10.
Of course another issue of Trinity that's at number 25. World of Warcraft is at number 13. And the first issue of DC's adaptation of the X-Files begins. It'll be six issues when it's done. And there's a variant on that one as well.
Devil's Dew has Demon Wars volume two, Demon Spirit number three, as well as Halloween, the first death of Laurie Stroud number two. That's a three issue series as well. And both of those have various variant covers. Check on those.
From Dynamic Forces, New Battlestar, Galactica, Ghost number two. That's a four issue miniseries. And Red Zone, number 39, which also has a variant cover, as well as Savage Tales number 10. And another best bet. It's cool.
Of course Gemstone continuing to contain all the great Walt Disney stories. This time with Walt Disney Comics and Stories number 697. Notable because nothing is better for the holiday season than a great Disney story. And some of the classics are contained in this one. Also from Gemstone, Uncle Scrooge number 382.
From IDW Angel after the fall continues at number 14. Doctor Who the Forgotten gets into number three. There's Love and Capes, a great independent series contained in a trade paperback this week. Speed Racer the Next Generation trade paperback comes in a volume two. And the Star Trek Archives volume two, The Best of the Borg.
Also a new Star Trek series from IDW. This is Star Trek Last Generation number one. There's also Transformers the Movie Sequel, Reign of the Starscream trade paperback. And a Transformers spotlight on Optimus Prime. Also this week from Image we got Bad Planet number six.
That's a 12 issue series. Dead Space hits in a hardcover collection. There's Dragon Prince number one this week. Dynamo Five hits number 18. Just keeps chugging along.
There's Fire Breathers series number three. Invincible number 55, Lucia Libre, contained in a trade paperback this week as well. Pax Romano winds up at issue number four this week. And there's a second printing of Todd McFarlane's Return to Spawn. That was in number 185 which blew out a couple of weeks ago.
And don't make the same mistake because number 186 is out this week as well. There's Walking Dead volume four in that hardcover run. And the wanted trade paperback, this time the movie edition. As well as the recent incarnation of Youngblood collected in a trade paperback this week from Image. Over to Marvel Comics for the Age of Century number three.
A variant cover on that one as well. By the way it's a six issue mini series. Amazing Spider-Man comes in at number 578 and then our next best bet. A little slow to start but it picked up fairly quickly and there's 12 issues total. We're up to number six for Avengers Invaders.
Check that one out. There's also a variant on that as well. We get Deadpool number four this week as well as the second printing variant for Deadpool number three. Ender's Game Battle School number two comes in this week. This new one by Orson Scott Card is a five issue series to begin his work at Marvel.
There's the essential Marvel saga trade paperback. This is number two in that run. Fantastic Four number 561 this week and a monkey variant. Full killer White Angels winds up with issue number five. There's Ghost Rider number 29.
Iron Man director of SHIELD which is a secret invasion tie-in. Has a number 35. From David Mack Kabuki Reflections number 11. And for the all ages group a whole bunch this week. Marvel Avengers Avengers number 30.
Marvel Adventures Fantastic Four number 10. It is a digest in that series. And Marvel Adventures two and one number 17. Marvel Illustrated winds up their adaptation of Three Musketeers with number six in that run. There's the Invincible Iron Man collected into a trade paperback.
This is volume number five. It's also a hardcover and a variant as well this week from Marvel. There's Moon Knight number 24. And speaking of collections. If you're a Punisher fan all the work Garth Innes has done so far on that character.
Collected in one omnibus hardcover this week. As well as an issue of Punisher Max. That's a number 64. And you think there's a movie coming up. There's the Punisher poster book.
And Punisher War Journal number 25 which is a secret invasion tie-in. Samurai Legend continues at number three. One more to go in that four issue run. There's Spider-Man the premium hardcover. This is Craven's first hunt.
Great collection of stories in there. We get Squadron Supreme 2 number five. Thunderbolts number 126. From the Ultimate Universe. Ultimate Fantastic Four number 58.
And Ultimate Hulk versus Iron Man. The trade paperback collection there. Uncanny X-Men number 504 continues the manifest Destiny story arc. There's also X Factor number 37. X-Men Legacy number 218.
X-Men Magic and Storm in a premium hardcover this week. There's also a variant cover on that hardcover if you can find it. More X-Men and X-Men Worlds of Part number two. That's a four issue miniseries. And Young X-Men also part of manifest Destiny continues at number eight.
And if you miss the early issues there's a trade paperback of the early Young X-Men called Final Genesis. Right off the bat this week at the DVD store everybody's putting their money down for Wall-E. Of course two different versions as per usual. A nice special edition though probably a three disc set you're going to want to add to your collection if you have to make a choice between the two. Also this week Tropic Thunder again two different editions of that one.
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and just one edition on DVD this week. And some more interesting stuff that's almost in a direct to DVD category. The Encounters of the End of the World. Revolver on DVD this week. Another version of Southland Tales.
Hopefully one that makes more sense than the first one did. Some more repackaging this week including a new version of the Hitchcock classic The Third Man. There's Monty Python's Holy Trinity which has some of the very best all in one new package there as well. Can you believe it has been 20 years since Christian Slater and one on a rider and Heather's. A special repackaged Blu-ray edition of that movie out this week to celebrate that event.
Jeff Dunham's a very special Christmas special is this week as well as a special edition of 300 and it's gorgeous. Two big package. Lots of discs, books, special items in there as well. Nice thing to add to the gift list. Then we move over to TV.
Okay top of the list Bones season three. A great show and a great way to catch it if you don't want to bother to deal with Fox every week. Doctor Who the fourth season. Again another classic and again a one that a lot of the folks on this website are going to be lined up for here later on today. Star Trek the original series remastered.
We're up to season number three on that one this week. There's the odd couple Jack Klugman and Tony Randall and again the final season this time on DVD. A couple of other TV to DVD items this week available for you in the stores if you don't want to wait until Black Friday when they'll probably be discounted heavily the way things are. Seem to be going. You can pick up this week charm the entire series.
Gene Simmons family jewels one of the better of the reality shows at season three. The Cales Navy season four and Hannah Montana season one ComicMix radio ComicMix timeline November 18th. Now to the comic stores this week from DC as real agent of the bat continues was up to issue number 48. Legionnaires was the number 67 from DC more from Batman Nightwing number 27 as well. We got Superman the man of steel number 85 Superman Batman Generations began with issue number one a really good John Permini series.
There was the Young Justice Secret Files number one and the fourth of the All Star Comics archives. From Marvel we get Captain America's Suddeno Liberty number six a next number five cable was a number 64 at Deadpool number 25 Thor number eight Thunderbolts number 23 Spider-Man chapter one number four. Crow number one and the elusive battle chasers came in from image this time we got issue number four of that. Dark gross gave us dark horse presents number one ninety nine and we got Lady Death Inferno number thirteen from. 1998 in the news I was Monica the nation's fascination with Monica Lewinsky was fed by the release of hours of tape that came from the House Judiciary Committee involving her private conversations.
Impeachment hearings were being prepared for President Clinton under the direction of prosecutor Kenneth Starr and AOL announced they were considering a partnership with Netscape in the movies. There was zombie home for Christmas Adam Sandler and the water boy the animated ants I still know what you did last summer Nicole and Sandra in practical magic and this is the United States James Cardenon. I'm the president I'm the emperor I'm the king I'm Michael Jackson you Tito your ass belong to me the first one and by far the best it was Jackie Chan's rush hour TV tonight ABC had Dharma and Greg two guys and a girl in the Drew Carey. Show CBS had the nanny in Chicago hope and over on the WB it was Chon. On the radio and incredible musician who won Grammys as far back as late nineteen sixties and early nineteen seventies but by the mid nineties had pretty much fallen on hard times and even didn't have a recording contract things however we're about to change.
But a collaboration with Clive Davis and a new album called supernatural brought no bus and 10 Grammys Carlos Santana starting it out smooth. I get a couple of days as I introduce you to somebody who is making her dreams come true.
