Hello, it's Mike Raub. Welcome to The Point where all parts of pop culture come together. Well, what does it take to make a hit TV series? Blue Blood so far this year for CBS seems to have made the cut and Donnie Wahlberg is along to tell us just how they did it. Plus the Hulk on TV and more on Reese the Series. The new TV season is upon us and a few weeks into it, well, there's not a lot of winners. Just like the past couple of years, we've said the very same thing. This year it's tougher and tougher to get a show into the top 10 in the beginning and to keep it in the top 25 a few weeks into the new season. One of the shows that's managed to do that though is the new cop drama Blue Bloods from CBS. So what does it take to get the audience's

attention and to get a new show into the hit category? Series star Donnie Wahlberg gives us his cut. It's ironic how things usually turns out right. At least when people do a good job of casting, you know, Bridget and I have a very, very great relationship and it definitely, you know, while she's in my opinion one of the most beautiful women I've ever met, it is a very, very trusting, you know, brotherly, sisterly kind of relationship.

I mean, we were both single parents. We talk about all types of stuff, you know, off camera and we help each other a lot as well off camera and it flows very naturally on screen. I think when we work together, um, Will, sometimes I look at Will and it's like looking at myself 10 years ago on Boomtown, you know, I see him, you know, wanting to explore certain elements of his character's story. You know, the way I did, you know, the way I did on

Boomtown, you know, and I remember walking around for the first 11 episodes saying, what am I going to get to talk about my wife? What am I going to get to talk about my suicidal wife and, you know, and carrying that with me into every scene that I did and I see Will doing that and, you know, I, like an older brother, you know, I, I'm able to sort of, you know, to identify it, see it, you know, I, you know, recognize it and sometimes help

and sometimes, you know, encourage it, you know, depending on what the situation calls for. And of course with Tom, you know, he really is like, he sort of is like everyone that, you know, I'm, I'm sort of a nutty kid on, on set, you know, but he knows Tom knows that I'm professional and, you know, I, I come to play hard every day, much like Frank knows that that's what Danny is, you know, Danny's a little nutty, but he's also, you

know, he put, Frank puts up with Danny sticking the heads in the toilet the way Tom puts up with Donnie, you know, tweeting in between takes and letting fans, you know, to watch the show. Working on a cop based television show has a little twinge of reality for Donnie. When I was in Boston growing up, I mean, I, I pretty much knew all the cops in my neighborhood

because they had all arrested my brothers, you know, you know, he wasn't, and we knew a lot of cops anyway. I mean, when you grew up in a city like in Boston, where I grew up, you know, a lot of kids become criminals or cops, you know, and so my, I never really had a bad take on cops other than, you know, I hate when there's one behind me on the highway. It's Friday, October 15th, 2010. Here's what's going on in pop culture. It's now official Reese Kingdom falling debuts in just a few days. Tuesday, October the 26th at sci-fi.com. The series that well became a cult hit on the internet is now going to be part of the sci-fi.com network and hopefully a regular series not far after that. This marks a big move by the website for to add more original content. The award winning steampunk series

is an excellent addition. It will premiere with new episodes every Tuesday and Thursday on the website. In the meantime, you can also download it from Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's Xbox as well as from Amazon. In the meantime, listen for our exclusive talk with the cast and creators of Reese right here in a few days. Looks like your worst nightmare could be true. It's still possible that the family circus might make it to the big screen. The

newspaper strip has been sold to 20th century Fox and Walden media. There have been directors and writers attached already. No other production plans in place. The single panel daily strip has been running continuously since 1960. IDW has been doing some beautiful collections of the earlier strips. The next incarnation of the Hulk might be on television. A Hollywood reporter said that a Hulk television show is in development for the ABC network. They're

looking for a show runner at this point. Also in development for ABC family is another Marvel strip. A little newer than the Hulk. Cloak and Dagger is in development and in search for a writer at this particular point. Of course, both channels are owned by the Marvel parent company Disney and part of a push to develop shows based on Marvel projects under the auspices of new Marvel TV head Jeff Loeb. Archie Comics has some big expansion plans

for the near future, including the beginning of 2012. One will be a companion magazine to their successful life with Archie publication that you see all over the place, especially in CVS, Walmart and other stores. It's a Betty and Veronica title that will tie in, of course, to the regular comics and feature the two girls in their teenage years. In addition to this, a couple of other interesting projects include the revival of Katie Keene sometime

in the near future and our repeat package of one of the most obscure titles Archie ever did. Sam Hill Private Eye, a series from back in the fifties, not tying into any regular Archie character in a very serious book on its own, considered to be pretty cool when you look at the artwork there done by the incredible Harry Lucy and now it's going to be reprinted in its entirety. In the meantime, they're also reviving another fifties title

and that it's Cosmo, The Merry Martian. A short run Archie book that ran in the fifties when everybody was all excited about outer space. That'll be revived in some form sometime next year from Archie. There's some controversy involving the 99. Now this is the comic book based cartoon that features 99 heroes embodying the attributes of Allah. It is, of course, an Islamic based cartoon series, which was set to debut on the hub. That's that new channel

put together by Hasbro and the discovery channel in January. However, a recent attack in the New York post in the last few days and some other controversy have caused the hub to delay the premiere of the 99. In fact, right now it's not on the schedule at all. The people who are upset, the family security matters website, who also are the people behind that attack in the New York post. And by the way, they had not seen any of the episodes that

were planned for the 99 chalk up one more casually to the new TV season. That's out low over on NBC. The Jimmy Smith's show had been on a production hiatus for the past couple of weeks. Now it's official. There's about four episodes that they will run and that'll be it for that series. It airs at 10 on Fridays on NBC. Fox has ordered two more primetime animation series, one based on the film Napoleon Dynamite, which will feature voices from of

all people, John Heater. They've ordered six episodes of that plus another six episodes of something called Alan Gregory done by actor comedian Jonah Hill, who was also co-writing Alan Gregory, which is based on the title character, a famous seven year old who was forced to attend elementary school with ordinary kids. Fox has ordered a limited run of six episodes of both series. Just like Avatar last year, Disney is premiering 23 sneak preview

minutes from Tron legacy. These in three D and for free as well. Tickets for the screening, which take place October 28th, they're available online, but you do have to hurry. Disneyscreens.com is a place to go. Screenings are held pretty much all over the US and around the world as well. And you have to enter the code word legacy when you go to the site. Tickets are going, of course, on a first come first serve basis. Yen Press has announced another manga

adaptation of James Patterson's work. This time he is a young adult series, which and wizard be adapting and illustrating which and wizard for the publishers, which will be serialized in yen plus the online manga anthology magazine. And then it will be collected later on in a print edition. They also announced they're planning a manga adaptation of Gail Carriger's debut novel, Solas as well. The first book in the parasol prerogative series. Solas is

a comedy of manners set in the Victorian London overrun with werewolves, vampires and other creatures, which and wizard do we should be beginning online on yen plus sometime over the next couple of months. There's another name you might not know, but you will when Spider-Man debuts in 2012, Reese Ifans is now going to be the bad guy. Not we know which bad guy, but he will be in Spider-Man, the reboot being done by Sony for release in July of 2012. Let

the internet speculation begin on exactly what Spider-Man villain Ifans will be playing in the movie. Mark Guggenheim, Greg Berlanti and others are allegedly hard to work on a Green Lantern sequel for the big screen. Even though the film hasn't debuted yet, they are also allegedly working on a script for a flash movie as well. orders has asked for both first treatments to be in their hands no later than holiday season this year. Just under 100,000. That's the crowd size

for last weekend's New York Comic Con. Read exhibitions, of course, very happy with this. They've already announced days for next year. Look for New York Comic Con 2011, the weekend of October 14th through the 16th. 47 Keebler elves were killed today when a light plane plunged into their tree. How much for the little girl? very concerned. Maybe you can drive my car. Yes, I'm gonna be a star. Maybe you can drive my car. And maybe I love you. Google is road testing cars that steer, stop and start without a human driver. They think they can help prevent traffic accidents, free up people's time and reduce carbon emissions. Google CEO Eric Schmidt said it's a bug that cars were invented before computers.

Their test cars have traveled 140,000 miles on major California roads with only limited human input. I don't mind saying this scares the poo out of me. Granted, these cars react faster than humans, and humans make mistakes. But unlike humans, these cars have no fear of their own mortality and no compassion for the safety of others. Machines wear out and break. If your PC were a car, would you think it was reliable enough to drive? If a PC were a Chevy, you wouldn't drive it. You can back up your files, but you can't back up your life. Google, you're frightening me.
