Wow! There’s some fan dedication, there.

Congratulations to everyone involved! It’s good to see $4000 of good came out of what’s little more than a popularity contest.

Here’s hoping no one gets upset…

I’m certain somebody else pointed this out to you, but most of the votes in the end that went to BCB were just out of spite for S&W after they beat Ava’s Demons, and didn’t even bother to check the quality of BCB before voting for it. Had they tried to read the first chapter or so of it, then read a chapter of S&W, they would’ve gone straight back to Novil with the awesome animation, storyline, and lack of the two things the internet has plenty of: teenage drama and cats. Sure it’s not against the rules, but uninformed voting is already happening in real life politics, so why does it have to happen with the awesome comics whose creators are all supporting the charity by signing up for this competition? In the end, the true winner is Ava’s Demons for having so many people support them with revenge. So congratulations to them, from a sincere fan of Novil’s work (S&W as well as Gaia).

Well, I’m happy that BCB won… but I have to admit I’m more than a little ashamed at how it happened. S&W is one of my least favorite webcomics, but the fans, for the most part, at least came out and voted fairly. BCB can say it has the richest and/or most dedicated fans out there, but it is nowhere near the highest number.

    • Maverik says:

Except that it won through votes in every other round? (With the exception of the one with Modest Medusa) And it was a pretty close race with Sandra & Woo despite relatively minimal advertising on BCB’s part.

If the contest was a means to measure who had the most fans, then Homestuck would have won by default. I really think that people need to stop complaining about the methods of a contest designed to raise money for Charity. A thing it very definitely did! And I really hope that $4000 helps the Hero initiative in great ways!

      • Auztria says:

Actually… I looked again and calculated. Can’t quite remember the exact totals, but subtract all the votes from money and just take the pure votes, and I counted BCB as still winning. My shame alleviated, I can take cheer in BCB’s victory and that it has such devoted fans.

Actually the numbers for the final up here can’t be right.

First: They are showing a victory for Sandra and Woo.

Second: The total bought votes for Sandra and Woo in the final is 211 according to the text. Add to that the 942 regular votes you can see on the finals voting page (it’s a 942 to 807 victory for S&W there, by the way) and you get more than the 1018 shown for the runner up here.

The answer is simple: In the numbers up there, the bought 1296 votes for BCB were wrongly counted towards the 942 regular votes for S&W, the 211 bought votes for S&W towards the 807 regular votes for BCB.
Making the correct total a 1153 to 2103 win for Bittersweet Candybowl.

I agree about the Homestuck line here. You say that BCB had minimal advertising and that’s probably all it needed. I already read several comics on this list, but BCB is the ONLY one I saw advertising. A simple blurb on any of thier main pages could have resulted in many more impressive totals

        Especially from Homestuck.

haha HORRAY inhuman fans and their deep pockets of SEVEN BUX. i would have it no other way <3

  4. Lukkai says:

@William Jones (see Facebook comments below): Yes, there were some rather unhappy campers in the comments of the previous page. I seriously hope that they will kindly shut up now or not show at all. Really no need to bring such drama into this. Especially considering what the above numbers tell us.

    • Lukkai says:

And for those who see this as a contradiction to a previous statement of mine about the right to express one’s opinion:
It’s one thing to simply do that. It’s something different to then keep droning on, especially if what shows through your comments is only spite born by your favourite comic losing. Even more so if you start getting personal about it.
