Fans of ONCE UPON A TIME and GRIMM should love the new Fox series, SLEEPY HOLLOW. It takes the timeless tale of Ichabod Crane and transports it (and him) to modern times. We talk to the starts of the show about how they are helping to construct this new fish-out-of-water story – plus THE KILLING gets killed again and Geoff Johns says farewell to AQUAMAN. The Point Radio. I'm Mike Raub, welcome to The Point. Sleepy Hollow is about ready to take its place next to Once Upon a Time and Grim as your favorite fantasy show. We'll tell you why as we talk to the cast and crew. Meanwhile, Jeff John says goodbye to Aquaman and the killing gets killed again.

Let's get to The Point. This is The Point. The Point Radio. Get The Point Radio. The new series Sleepy Hollow comes from the creative minds of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orsi.

And it starts with that Washington Irving story we are so familiar with and then gives it a modern twist. Ichabod Crane is transported to the present day to do battle with the foe who killed him centuries ago, the Headless Horseman. And from there, director Len Wiseman fills us in. He's a revolutionary war soldier and so he has this incredible backstory they've created about coming over from England and turning. And now suddenly he's from modern day and seeing the results and the fruits and flavor of what happened during that time.

And we find out that there are all kinds of secrets to the evolution of it. You know, we just, we have one version that we read in the history books, but then now we have somebody who is actually there who tells us the real story. And it's much, much more exciting. In the present day, Ichabod is aided by a local police officer, played by Nicole Bahari. I work in the Sleepy Hollow Police Department and basically Ichabod falls into my lap and is telling me all these things about 250 years ago.

And that we have some mission when I'm like on my way out of Dodge. I'm like heading out of town. I want to change my life. She has a kind of a dark past, which you'll find out more about as the series progresses. But they become partners in a way.

I can't say too much, but they become partners in a way. There's a lot of fish out of water situations here and Nicole likes that. I know. I get to have a lot of fun watching him discover things. Like there's a scene where he's playing with the window, with the window in the car.

Instead of pressing it and watching the window go up and down and up and down. It's a really novel idea. The action starts out, well, pretty badass. And from there… I hope that it gets more badass, as you say.

Yeah, I think what's really cool is that they're really complex, all the characters in the series, and that we get to kick ass a little bit too. Also in the cast, former comedian Orlando Jones, who said he had no hesitation getting on board this show. To be honest, there are several factors.

There's always, well, who's doing it? And this was, you know, Chris Menorci and 20th and Fox. And the second thing is you read it. And the script was extra fantastic to the point that you were like, this is a movie.

It's not a television show. And, you know, to be a part of this type of story, like this was kind of like a dream come true type thing. It's like it's Sleepy Hollow. It's like one of the great, enduring American stories.

The Headless Horseman. A lot of stories from a lot of places. This one's sort of distinctly American and cool. So a lot of fun. The choice of networks for Sleepy Hollow also played a big part for Orlando.

The best part about it is that I have known, like all the Fox publicity people since it was Mad TV. And they were kind of like, not a network. Like we want a network. It was just like, oh, you're on Fox.

Yeah, it's not NBC. That was always the attitude. And now it's like Fox and the same people who I sort of started out with on Mad TV are now sort of very much running the network and seeing them flourish. And seeing it flourish.

It's sort of like, I feel like I'm going back to a family I know. So that part is really fun. Really exciting. Even for the cast, there's a lot more to learn about the premise. It's interesting because I'm still exploring it myself.

And the story goes in so many different places. I think we all are still exploring where it's going. And what's most amazing about it is that I don't know how good or bad I am right now. That's my next question. I'm not exactly sure.

I don't know how much I know and how much I don't know. But I do know that they present a real problem. But I can at the end of the pilot no longer deny that there is a tremendous amount of circumstantial, truthful evidence towards what he's saying.

And how to be a part of that and do what I really want to do, which is stop people from dying. It's a dilemma that doesn't feel lofty or procedural or television-like. It's just like people are getting their head chopped off by somebody with a blade. And these people have the only plausible explanation. And it sounds crazy.

I mean, that's what I love about the show. As with any good show, Orlando said the support behind the scenes for the show is pretty strong. I don't think I've ever heard of a show where, Lynn Weisman, who directed the pilot, generally the director of the leaves. And Lynn's like in the writing room every day,

breaking story and talking about character. And when you look at Heather Cate and the producer, they're such a group. They've been working this baby for a long time. So we sort of feel like we're in amazing hands, really,

because not only have they done incredible stuff already, but they really have built a world for us to step into. And we're learning about it in many ways as you are. We're way, we're not ahead of this. But it's exciting to be a part of.

And we hope you guys love it like we do because we're geeked out right now. The part of Ichabod is played by Tom Meisen, who has his own reasons for enjoying the part. The really nice, delicate balance between the ridiculousness of his situation and the absolute seriousness of it.

It's a really nice thing to try and find as an act to find the balance of that. And I think with everyone's assistance, we found quite a nice tone to it. That's just thrilling. Sleepy Hollow follows Bones every Monday with new episodes on Fox. It's what we do.

Here's the latest in pop culture. As a final episode of Breaking Bad approaches, it looks like that Saul Goodman spin-off we heard about is actually going to come to fruition. Showrunner Vince Gilligan and writer-producer Peter Gould will be involved.

More than likely Bob Odenkirk will of course be involved as well. And the show will be set as a prequel to Breaking Bad, taking place before Odenkirk's character actually met Walter White. No official word on production days, but more than likely it'll be set to hit television sometime in late 2014.

The fall TV season kicked off with a roar. That roar came from the Sons of Anarchy return to FX and almost six million total viewers that were there for the FX premiere. At least at this point, that premiere for season six looks like it could be the most watched show in the network's history.

Geoff Johns is leaving the Aquaman comic, affected with issue number 25 in a very short time. No word yet on exactly what Jeff will be doing. If anything, the Philippines schedule. That schedule is pretty full right now with Forever Evil.

And of course, the Arrow television show. Jeff Farger picks up the job of writing Aquaman, at least for a while, starting with issue 26. Well, maybe this time it'll stick. AMC has canceled the killing.

There'll be no season four of that series. The third season opened with a fairly decent rating of 1.8 million viewers, but it dropped after that and really never rose over what was accomplished in the second season. And that season was low enough to have it originally canceled by AMC. At that time, as you recall, Netflix stepped in to try and help revive

things and right now producers of the show are saying they are officially seeking other options. The court battle between writer Gary Friedrich and Marvel Comics over the ownership of Ghost Rider has apparently been settled, but not yet signed off on. The court has announced that all the future deadlines are being set aside, meaning that the original trial set for not far from right now,

that Friedrich won in an appeal a few months ago, will not take place at all parties will soon be signing off on an agreement that pleases both sides. No word yet on exactly what that means, but more than likely it would be in the form of some sort of payment to Friedrich for his participation in creating the character.

FX is developing a sequel to American Psycho. It's one that would take the characters into the present day. And of course, it has the blessing of Brett Easton Ellis, who wrote the novel for the film that was done in 2000 and starred Christian Bale. No word yet on anybody else involved with the project on either side of the camera.

Football seasons here and what are you going to do during the endless run of beer commercials? Well, here's an idea. Victoria's Secret has released three games within its Pink Nation iPhone app. The goal here is to capture the college football fan during the 14 week season. Right now they have two games that have already been released.

There's another set to be released on the 23rd that has a Twitter component and you can check them all three out in the Pink Nation iPhone app in the app store. If you were a fan of the canceled ABC family series and Nine Lives of Chloe Gay, well, it's not been a good run for you. The show was canceled.

The never produced two hour movie will never happened. But now here's a little bit of good news. The plot points that were left dangling in that cliffhanger back in 2011 will all be solved in the release of the script for that two hour movie. You can find that or wrap everything up right now at

Alloy Entertainment's website alloyentertainment.com. When you look at the cold numbers, graphic novel sales and comic stores in August took a pretty big dip. They were down 24 and a half percent, a little more than that, even when you compare them to where they were in August of 2012.

But again, keep in mind that year had a five week ship month in August. So there are some things to be considered. And when you stack up how graphic novel sales are so far in 2013, they're still up almost 10 percent over where they were in 2012. After all that is your top 10 best selling graphic novels in comic stores in August,

starting at number 10 with BBRD Hell on Earth volume six from Dark Horse. Number nine, the flash trade paperback moving forward. Number eight, Superior Spider-Man second volume trade paperback there. At number seven, the Deadpool trade paperback. The second one, Soul Hunter Now.

Number six, the My Little Pony digest trade paperback for my DW. At number five, Saga volume two and at number four, Saga volume one from Image. Third best selling graphic novel, Rocket Raccoon Tales from the Half World from Marvel. Number two is the two trade paperback, seventh one of those called Bad Apples. And believe it or not, the number one best selling graphic novel for the month,

one you're pretty familiar with, Walking Dead's Days Gone By, the first trade paperback volume in that series from Image. That's a wrap for today.
