The universe of ABC’s ONCE UPON A TIME is a busy place. With season three in full gear plus the new WONDERLAND spin-off, there is a lot to consider. We talked with creators Ed Kitsis and Adam Horowitz about the perils of spreading too thin, what is in store for each show and if we can look for any crossovers. Plus ONCE’s Jennifer Morrison (Emma) talks about how her character has changed this year. The Point Radio Hey, it's Mike Raub. You know the world of ABC's Once Upon a Time is a busy place these days. And we talked to the creators about having two series as well as one of the stars about what lies down the road for her character as well. Meantime, Netflix and Marvel are pushing ahead, but come on, we got to admit it, SHIELD is slipping. Let's get to The Point.

This is The Point. The Point Radio. Get The Point Radio. The universe of ABC's Once Upon a Time has been a busy place so far this year, with the regular series well into its third season and the spin-off as well involving Alice in Wonderland. I talked to creators Ed Kitsis and Adam Horowitz about just what the differences were between the two shows. I would say that it's the main differences I think in the mode of storytelling,

which is once was designed to be an epic story to be told over hopefully many, many seasons as the fans asked for it. Whereas with Wonderland, what we're trying to do is tell this very contained story in one season specific to Cyrus and Alice and how they've been separated and how they will or won't get back together. And that should the fans like it and people want more, then we would come up with a new adventure for these characters to go on. But it's meant to be a beginning,

middle and end all told in one season. How about crossovers involving the show? Not really a lot. It's funny because it's not a spin-off in the traditional sense where it would be like a character for once and we drop them off and they say, okay, we're going to see Robin Hood, as we've said, would be making an appearance. But really the show lives on its own. And so that if you've never seen Once Upon a Time, you can watch Wonderland and jump in and not feel like you've

missed a beat. But if you do watch Once Upon a Time, we'll have Easter eggs and a few things. But yeah, we don't have the episode where Rumpelstiltskin in it yet coming up. But that's not the same we want. Wonderland was introduced on the regular Once Upon a Time and at that point, the Queen of Hearts was played by Barbara Hershey. Is that going to play into the new series? Yeah, Cor was the Queen of Hearts, which is, you know, and Emma's playing the Red Queen. And, you know,

we eventually will later in the series tell you, you know, where she fits in and all this and how she may or may not have inspired her, you know, had people be frightened of her. In the once world, what we saw Cora was pre-cursed. And now where Wonderland is, we're in a post-cursed world. So everything that happened with Cora kind of has occurred in the past, but that is being felt in the present. And we intend to explore that and to see how she's had an effect on the characters in

Wonderland. And what about the original Mad Hatter, a character created by actor Sebastian Shaw? Well, we do know what happened to Jefferson, which is he was reunited with his daughter last year. And so he is in Storybrooke living a happy life because he got his happy ending, which was finding his daughter. You know, we love Sebastian. He's very busy right now. And, you know, should he be able to become available someday? Of course, we'd love to have him back. But as far as what happened

to him is, you know, he's in that really cool house with his daughter. Beyond the basic fairy tales, the guys have dabbled in some other universes as well. I ask if there'd be any more, for example, of the King Arthur world. I mean, we have certainly hinted and pointed in that direction. We have met Lance a lot. And yeah, you know, we'd love to give him the opportunity to keep dipping our toe in that world as well. So how do they go about retooling these familiar fairy

tale icons? It depends. You know, certain characters, what we like to do is we take our iconic memory of them from our you. What are the things that make them special? For instance, Captain Hook, you know, we thought about, well, who's the crocodile? And how did he lose his hand? And then we thought, well, Bobby's the crocodile, Robert, Robert Carlisle, who plays Rumble Stiltskin. We thought, well, what would a man cut another man's hand out for? And we said, well, he took his

woman because he's a pirate. And that's kind of how he was born. So you start to think about your memory of them in the touchstones. And yeah, it's a case by case basis. Sometimes we hear pretty closely to the original story. Sometimes we go way off. It really depends on what we're trying to tell in our Once Upon a Time story. And we always try to find what we hope is either an original spin or something new or to answer the question of what you didn't know about this

character is such and such. And, you know, if we can do that, then we think we succeeded in creating something cool. Right down the original series, the current storyline involves a trip to Neverland and evil shadows allegedly controlled by Peter Pan and soon to be voiced by Marilyn Manson. But are these things a little more than what they appear? That's an excellent question. I've seen a shadow be ripped from their host. I would say we're going to see a lot more of

shadows and what happens to them ripped or not ripped and how that works. That's something we explore in Neverland and whether or not that's actually pan shadow we're seeing. The long-term story arc in Neverland is that a number of repercussions on the characters, including Emma, played by Jennifer Morrison. I think that so that much that it drastically affects the way in which they continue going after Henry to try to save him. I think it just impacts the dynamic

between the whole group because Emma has now realized something about herself that she didn't know before. And it's now been revealed to everyone around her which will impact the way they all relate to each other and impact the way they continue working together or fighting with each other as we continue through the jungle trying to get to Henry. So I think it has more emotional repercussions than physical repercussions. This season fans were most excited to see how the

dynamic grew between Emma and her family, Snow White and Prince Charming. And it has been explored a lot but the question is can she ever truly forgive them? I think Emma does forgive her parents. I don't think that she does. It's not that she doesn't forgive them. I think that it just doesn't change that it happened. There's a big difference between unforgiveness and experience and I think she understands logically why they did it and I think she probably could put herself in

their shoes and imagine herself making the same decision. But that doesn't change that she spent 28 years without a family and without loved ones and having to survive on her own in some way and finding them doesn't eliminate everything that she's gone through up until that point. And so I think it's not so much that she doesn't forgive them as much as they just need time. They need time with each other in order to create a true bond and a true relationship. You can't just

meet someone. It would be like going like hey you're my mom. Let's be super close. Do you know what I mean? Like that's literally what happens. You can't just be super close because you're told to me. You have to have a history. You have to have time. You have to build a relationship with someone. So I think they're just in the process of that time spent in order to build a relationship. But it doesn't hurt feelings and her emotions don't mean that she doesn't forgive them. It just

means that they have a lot of work to do. It is the latest in pop culture. It is the big super powered elephant in the room but Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has had a continuous slide in ratings since their premiere a few weeks back. The first episode considered a success with almost

12 million viewers but the latest episode was down to just a little bit over 6 million live viewers as well. There are increases when DVR ratings are added in but right now it looks like a 44% decline since the first week. Meanwhile ABC has renewed S.H.I.E.L.D. for the entire season. Hey you truly never know what you're going to find on YouTube PBS Digital Studios as a new video series on their YouTube channel called Songs for Unusual Creatures. It revolves around composer and writer Michael

Hurst as he travels around the country to meet strange animals and write songs for each one. The animals include sea pigs and glass frogs as well. 20th Century Fox has made some decisions to shift the release dates of upcoming films on the way including the Fantastic Four reboot which originally was set for the spring of 2015. The Josh Drank directed film is now going to be in the summer June 19th 2015 to be exact. In the meantime figure out the spring spot vacated by

FF will be Secret Service to Mark Millar David Gibbons comic series that's being adapted to film and by the way Assassin's Creed has also been moved as well. It is now going to be released on the 7th of August 2015 a couple of months later than originally was scheduled in June. Good news this week for fans of a number of the CW series including the originals the Tomorrow People and Reign. All three have been given full season pickups by the CW meaning they'll get their

complete run of 22 episodes. Viewership on the CW network this year is up well over 9%. Some more news on the Netflix Marvel deal it looks like Melissa Rosenberg will be the show runner for the Jessica Jones Alias series. She's actually been connected to the show in one form or another since it began being tossed around back in 2010. It also looks like Drew Goddard is more than likely to be the show runner for Daredevil. Marvel said they're close to locking

in a deal with him. Marvel has officially announced they'll be relaunching the Fantastic Four in the first of the new year with James Robinson and Leonard Kirk as the creative team. The current run ends in January and the new Fantastic Four series will begin in February. While comic sales continue to grow graphic novels took a dip in comic stores in October when compared to the previous month. A little over four and a half percent is the official number

but overall for the year they're still growing up again just a little over four and a half percent when compared to 2012. Top 10 best-selling graphic novels in comic stores in October begin with Saga volume two at number 10. At number nine Saga volume one Lazarus the first volume is at number eight. At number seven Batman volume two the City of the Owls the Hellboy Midnight Circus graphic novel came in at number six. At number five Avatar the Last Airbender volume six.

Batman the Court of the Owls book and masked set came in as the fourth best-selling book for the month. The Joker Death of the Family came in at number three one away from the top the Avengers Endless War Time from Marvel and the best-selling graphic novel of the month in shops Batman volume three Death of the Family.
