The Point Radio It's Mike Raub. We're talking to the guys of Robot Chicken about their Christmas special and how much fun it is to still play with toys in 2014. Plus, DC vs. Marvel and they are so close in the comic book stores. And a Sandman movie? Let's get to The Point.

This is The Point. The Point Radio. Get The Point Radio. So with a Christmas special rolling right now and new episodes headed early in 2014, the guys at Robot Chicken are back in business. I talked to Bracken Meyer and Max Senreich and asked him, well, is it still as much fun as it used to be? You know we play with toys, right?

It hasn't, other than growing in the size of our studios and stuff, it hasn't changed. It's us, it's friends sitting around goofing off of toys going, wouldn't it be funny if Rainbow Bright went out with GI Joe? Basically over time, the process of shooting the show hasn't really changed. And it's kind of intense.

No, the way we shoot is to simplify the process. It's like live action shoots where if we have a cityscape, we will shoot everything on that cityscape all at once. Every episode, yeah. If we have a bathroom, which is a perfect example for our show, we will shoot every bathroom scene we ever need all at the same time. And that's kind of how we'll put it into play. Yeah, we have a giant board of like 17 stages that we're like mixing around

and trying to figure out what's put on each stage. So yeah, it's an intense process. Bregga told me not everybody on the show is a complete pop culture expert. I'm a novice when it comes to the world we did with Agent of Doom and stuff like that. So I was learning and Googling as we went along. As I was sending in pitches, I was Googling people.

Yeah, but it's fun because again, we're playing with like everyone from Black Panther to, you know, you name your random Gorilla Garad. That blew my mind that that was a real character. That there's a smart gorilla. And he chose to be evil. But on the other hand, we have like the hardcore geek's right on the show and then we also have a couple people who do nothing like Hugh Davidson is one of our writers and he knows

nothing. But he'll take something and be like, wait, I don't understand. So what you're telling me is whenever all the superheroes fly, Green Lantern has to put a bubble around Batman. Why? Why is it a bubble? We've got a lot of time where there's been a lot of really silly conversations about what the hell Ben 10 is for people who don't know. And then the way I describe it is like,

I know what Boba Fett's ship is, you know, I know the slave one, but I don't know what it runs on. Some of our guys do. That's the distinction of how deep our writers go. Let's slide into all the latest pop culture. In a year that's seen comic book properties pretty much take over Hollywood, we could be ending it with the solid news on a Sandman movie and attached to it, Joseph Gordon Levitt. Levitt is revealed via Twitter he's involved in the Sandman movie along with David Goyer. He's even teasing the name Prelude, which may refer to the original Sandman story arc preludes and nocturnes. Gordon Levitt's role

is to produce and maybe even direct and maybe and were maybe on that one star in the film, which according to some folks online also revealed that Goyer's treatment is what actually got Warner Brothers involved. And of course, Warner's also excited about Gordon Levitt ever since his role in The Dark Knight Rises. No official word yet from either Neil Gaiman or from Warner Brothers. The latest Star Wars movie rumors include a little bit of a tease

about a Han Solo origin story. Disney had said they planned to do some stand-alone films after the release of Episode 7 in 2015. Now it seems like the biggest rumor would be one for a Han Solo origin story that would take place before the original Star Wars and give some background on that character. Again though, first step is to get Episode 7 in theaters and that will be in just a little less than a year and a half.

20th Century Fox continues their tight relationship with writer Mark Millar. His project started with Starlight, which will connect several of his other titles, is set to debut in comics very soon. And there's talk that Fox wants to move it right into the movies as well with Simon Kinberg writing and producing. Kinberg's already involved in X-Men Days of Future Past and the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot as well. Meanwhile, Mark has two more deals on

the table with Fox, one for his kindergarten heroes, Kid Comic, and another for Secret Service which has already begun filming and will be set for release in 2015. Our friends over at Comic Resources have finally released a results of their poll for the seven most iconic panels in Marvel Comics history. All in all, it's a great idea and we're not going to tell you what place number one or even was in the top ten because quite

frankly the journey from 70 to number one is just very, very cool. Check it out at ComicBookResources.com tell them we sent you. One more month ago before we stack up all the numbers and see how 2013 fared in comic stores with sales of both comics and graphic novels. November was interesting maybe because of Black Friday but it certainly was a big month for graphic novels. Sales there grew over 14.5% while comics dropped about 1.21% when compared to

the same dates in 2012. Here today the numbers are a little more even if you look at the 2013 so far as a whole. When compared to last year comics up about 11% and graphic novels up a bit over 5% and who was the big winner as far as the publishers go in November? Well it was neck and neck and we'll give you all the details on that including your top ten best sellers coming up. As always we got a few goodies to point you to this week as you

head into comic stores the week before the big week of the holiday but keep in mind as you do your gift gathering there's plenty of great things in your local comic store. Talk to your retailer to see what they suggest, look around, take a little extra time you might be really pleased and surprised with what you find. Same thing can be said for Dark Horse Presents there's a title we've not talked a whole lot about but consistently

it has some really interesting features from issue to issue. This one has a brand new Hellboy story as well as some other things that tie into some of the other Dark Horse series. It is Dark Horse Presents number 31 and with this one you don't have to buy them all. Talk to your retailer about what he has in stock and pick and choose over the past year's worth of issues. Think you'll be pleased. Also from Dark Horse first issue of The Ghost,

a new series for that Dark Horse character. Also keep in mind in another year we might be talking about the success of The Strain as an FX television series. Could be another Walking Dead might be a good time to jump on the comic series as well. The sixth issue of Strain to Fall is out right now but you can easily grab the others. The controversial Harley Quinn first issue is out this week from DC and there's also a Vertigo Essentials

of the first issue of 100 Bullets for just a dollar and the collection of the five issues of The Wake is also available in a cheap $9.99 trade paperback. From Image Umbral number one it gets a second printing and there's a second issue out this week of the title as well. From Marvel, some more. Peter Parker back in Amazing Spider-Man with number 700.4 and number 700.5 this week. If you got somebody who loves the old early Golden Age Marvel

stories there's a Golden Age of Marvel trade paperback with some great material in it. Out this week for just under $30 and a trade collection of the Powers Bureau also out this week for under $20 from Marvel. Also a couple of creator centric titles, Imagine Agents from JMS number three this week and Mark Wade's Green Hornet hits issue number eight. All these and more available in a comic store near you now keep in mind the next couple

of weeks things can be a little wonky with the delivery of comics so talk to your local retailer about when they'll be putting out the new issues during Christmas and New Year's Week. stores in November when compared to 2012 the dip was a little over 1% but overall for the year things are still pretty strong and the neck and neck battle for market share between DC and Marvel seems to be even closer this month. DC last month on top this month Marvel but boy was it close 29.97% of the market for Marvel, 29.24% of the market for DC. All that being said is your top 10 best-selling comics for the month at number 10 Marvel

Superior Spider-Man number 21 at number 9 Batman Superman number 5 another Superior Spider-Man number 22 came into number 8. All new X-Men number 18 at number 7 number 6 Infinity number 6 for Marvel number 5 best-selling book for the month for every evil number 3 number 4 was Superman Unchained number 4. At number 3 Amazing X-Men number 1 Harley Quinn number 0 came in at the second spot for the best-selling books of the month and

the number 1 for the month goes to DC for Batman number 25 part of the zero year story arc.
