BROOKLYN 99 dives into Fox Sunday nights and star Melissa Fumero talks about how the cast is more than ready to grab another Golden Globe, plus what might (or might not) be happening between her character and Andy Samberg. Meanwhile, fresh off CAPTAIN AMERICA WINTER SOLDIER, MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD starts out another season that will lead not only to next year’s AVENGERS, but to a spin off as well and in spite of all that pressure, Clark Gregg says he’s still having a ball.

The Point Radio Hey it's Mike Raub, I get to spend some time with my favorite part of Fox's Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Actress Melissa Fumero talks about where her character is in the new second season, and just how it all works out with her and Andy Samberg. Plus the boys from S.H.I.E.L.D. are back, there's a new second season on the way,

and how does it all tie in to Marvel's big picture? Agent Coulson himself is here to fill us in. Let's get to The Point. This is The Point. The Point Radio.

Get The Point Radio. Fox's Brooklyn Nine-Nine is back for its sophomore season, interestingly nestled in a Sunday night slot between The Simpsons and Family Guy on the network. Still shining brightly in the cast is actress Melissa Fumero, playing the adorable, yet majorly OCD, Detective Amy Sundiago.

Melissa and I had met at the beginning of the first season, and I ask her how things have changed between then and now. Yeah, I mean, I think when we spoke last year, I was coming from like a super nervous, anxiety-written type of place, like I hope people like the show, like I'm so excited,

but I'm so nervous and like I hope everything comes out okay. You know, I can't wait to see the episodes and this year, I feel a little bit more relaxed and confident over the past year and some. Yeah, I definitely feel like I've grown as an actor and as a person. You know, we also have gotten to all know each other really well on in the cast,

and we've all really become quite close and friends. So I was so excited to be reunited with everybody, and I just feel like the episodes second season are so amazing and so funny and so great that, you know, of course, there's nerves, but like with anything, but I'm definitely not as nervous and crazy and just like overwhelmed as I was last year.

I feel kind of gotten used to the rhythm and to the routine of things and yeah, it's been an amazing, amazing ride, and I'm so grateful that this whole thing has been happening in my life. Moses' character too has grown a lot from being a little obsessed and a little OCD to pretty deep and layered. Our writers are so amazing.

They're so fantastic and good at what they do. And yeah, that's what I love about TV when you're playing this character over a long time is learning all those new things about your character and constantly evolving her and growing with her and it's really fun. I definitely continue into second season with all the characters, but I love that, you know, our writers are really talented at writing,

not just one-note characters. Every person on the show, every character is complex and layered and, you know, so I love that. I love when Amy's doing detective work, she's really capable and confident, and then she tries to be as capable and confident in her, you know, real life,

but it doesn't always work out for her. It kind of blows up in her face a lot of the time and that's really fun to play and I think watch her try to figure that out and navigate, you know, who she is. So what's up for this season? Yeah, you know, like I said, there's nothing to be more growth with Amy.

You know, she's very ambitious. She wants to be captain one day. We get to see her in second season two kind of going after that a little bit more and growing in her professional life. So, and, you know, she's still trying to impress the captain and, you know, make him be her mentor. She, the whole thing Amy's relationship has definitely evolved in second season

and even though she still kind of kisses his butt too much, he's kind of been more receptive to her and there's a great working relationship and personal relationship that evolves in second season. So a lot of fun stuff coming up for Amy and a lot of things in her world get shaken up in second season. So I can't say what, but and of course, everybody wants to know any progress between her character and the one played by Andy Samberg. I would say that maybe there's hope maybe.

Yeah, some really fun Jake and Amy moments in second season that I think people will love. Melissa is a veteran of both some indie films and a web series and I asked her what opportunities were on the way for her. Yeah, there is so much stuff. It's a really exciting time to be an actor because there's so many different mediums and genres and venues that you can book gigs in. And I think that's really exciting.

I love working on the web series. I thought it was really fun. I'd be totally open to doing another one again. You know, I haven't done a ton of film. So I kind of look forward to maybe having the opportunity to work on more movies when I'm not shooting the show.

Nothing is set. Nothing's concrete. You know, I'm just going to be going for anything and staying really open to any opportunities that come my way. And I'm really excited about that. You know, it's just kind of this big open door and I'm looking forward to hopefully walking through it.

The co-star Chelsea Peretti has made a real name for herself in the world of podcasting. Any thoughts about trying that? I don't know. You know, I get sort of nervous when like I have to talk like in Be Melissa. I'm much more comfortable to just kind of be characters and know like play somebody else and pretend to be somebody else.

So I think I don't know that in my skillset Chelsea is amazing at it. She's in a brilliant stand of comedian. Her podcast is great. You know, it's one thing to be a guest on sort of one of those things and have a conversation with someone but to lead the conversation and just sort of speak your mind and talk things like I always just like second guess myself and get you nervous like, oh, I don't know.

You should say that because maybe I don't know that might like hurt somebody's feelings and like, you know, it's just my mind goes too much there. So, you know, I don't know that that's necessarily in my wheelhouse. Catch Melissa and the rest of a pretty incredible cast in the next season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine every Sunday on Fox. What's been going on in the world of pop culture? Netflix has acquired the exclusive US rights to the English gangster series Peaky Blinders.

They got the deal from the UK through the Weinstein Company and the first six episodes are available now. Season two will hit Netflix in November. Speaking of the streaming service, a new survey shows that a regular Netflix viewer now spends about 93 plus minutes on the service every day or about 45 hours per month. And it continues to grow with an increase of about 350 percent since the last survey taken in 2011. After a pretty successful summer season, CBS has broken the mold and renewed Big Brother for two more broadcast years.

Season 17 and 18 are guaranteed now running in the summers of 2015 and 2016. These past few months this last season of Big Brother racked up some eight million viewers for CBS. X-Men movie writer Simon Ginberg led a few secrets out about the upcoming X-Men Apocalypse film, saying it would be the last one of the current X trilogy, the one that began with X-Men First Class. He also said that there would be some new characters involved and we probably would not see some of the originals in this one,

due to the fact of the timeline and well, the fact some of those characters have aged a little bit since the beginning of the X-Men films. Finally, the nicest bit of news is the fact that there will be a restoration of a lot of cut scenes from days of future past when the DVD hits, including a lot more scenes involving Anna Paquin as Rogue. Marvel Comics and of course Disney has now settled its long-running litigation with the heirs of Jack Kirby, one of the most important creators of course in that company's history.

The case had been appealed to the Supreme Court, but a settlement was reached and of course that settlement is not being disclosed to the public. However, it's looked on as a positive move for both the Kirby family and Marvel. The point, the point, is what's cool. The sigh of relief you hear as you head in the comic shop this week is from your wallet, who's pretty grateful that all the major crossovers and events are pretty much over for the moment,

but to sell some good stuff to spend money on, including another Batman anniversary item, this is the Batman 75th anniversary trade paperback, it combines the work of Frank Miller with the Dark Knight Returns and the work of Scott Snyder with the Court of Owls. Interesting comparison and certainly some of the best of the Batman over the past couple of decades all in one trade paperback. Speaking of Batman from DC, Gotham Academy begins this week written by Becky Cloonan.

That starts out with a number one and again it's a little bit different for a Batman series. If you're anxiously awaiting the debut of Fleish on the CW, here's a little something to get you through the timing. It's called Fleish Season Zero, number one. It fills in some of the gaps of what happened between the Arrow crossovers last year and the beginning of the new season. From Image, it's Cutter, four weekly issues that begin this week,

and tell the story that one of that kid you and your friends picked on in your youth came back with a vengeance to kill you and your friends. Again, it's four issues and it runs every week starting this week from Image. Weyward number one also gets a second printing from Marvel Buggy Barnes Winter Soldier number one, which is pretty self-explanatory. Then there's Guardians 3000 number one that brings back the original Guardians from back in the 60s with a all-new story. The female Thor debuts in a new Thor series that starts with number one.

And also this week Mercy Thompson number one from Dynamite. An all-new story set in official continuity exclusively created for comics, and one you want to be sure to catch if you're a Mercy fan or you know someone who is. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has already roared into its second season with the new direction that will not only lead it into the Marvel movies in the upcoming spring, but also into the Agent Carter series that will fill in the gap between the fall and winter run of the show. It all begins with a new pace that was set at the end of the last season as explained by executive producer Jeff Bell. In the middle of it all is actor Clark Gregg as Agent Colson, who's still enjoying himself.

I had so much fun, especially in the back half of season one, you know, with the crossover with Captain America and Nick Fury showing up in my hour of need and handing me my beautiful destroyer gun and letting me blow away a bunch of evil super soldiers. I mean I could have died on the spot right there and then to be two days later in my own room in the bus being made director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I was kind of like, this was just Favreau offering me three lines in Iron Man. So how did it become this?

So where does he start off this year? Time has passed. Everyone in the world seems to want to arrest Bill Folsom. Shields on the run. He made me the president of a country that no longer exists. And now we've got to rebuild it and make it better and not so riddled with evil traitors. And the only way to do that seems to be to make some new friends, to root out some good old friends, and to do it all using kind of back alley, brass knuckles tactics that seem reminiscent of Cold War espionage. After being a part of probably some of the biggest movie franchises in film history, I ask Clark, have you ever thought about directing?

You know, I would love to do that. I'm fascinated by watching it. The directors they've got are so amazing at what they pull off in terms of stunts, visual effects, acting, guest cast, and eight days is just insane. And it only seems to be getting bigger this year. I watch the episodes as they come get made and I think, how could I possibly do this and still do my job? As we said, as the season rolls on, it'll all dovetail into the other Marvel projects set for the first of the year and the spring of 2015. Jeff Bell and showrunner Jeff Loeb explain that.

Yo, Guardians is right now. And then May 1st is Avengers. And that will be about two or three weeks before we end. And so we love it. Fantastic. If something would be really cool, if something tied together, it would be cool. I don't know. We also have one of the greatest things in the world, which is we have two series now that could maybe possibly tie together. War on shield on the way.
