We mentioned on Wednesday that Amber Benson would macarena on YouTube if enough people commented on her book at Amazon. But would she actually do it?

After seeing this trailer for her next film, which will be out on DVD on the 28th, I’m convinced she’ll do anything.

(REALLY Not Safe For Work. You’ll probably laugh hard enough that your coworkers will come over and take a look, and then the jig will be up.)

Let’s Rebuild Len Wein’s Comic Book Collection!

Earlier this month, my friends Len Wein and Chris Valada lost a pretty good sized chunk of their house and belongings in a fire. They’re moving (today, I think) into a rental home for what might be a year while their regular dwelling is rebuilt. Insurance is paying for most of the reconstruction but there are things that just plain weren’t covered. One was Len’s book collection, most notably his shelves of comic books he’s written over the years.

The loss in that category is not primarily financial. Some of Len’s comics — like the ones in which he co-created Swamp Thing or Wolverine or Human Target — go these days for hefty bucks but many do not. They’re sitting in the bargain boxes at comic shops or in collectors’ piles of duplicates. The big problem here is the time it would take to track down all the issues of everything. Len has enough other things to do, just to rearrange his life these days. So some of his friends decided to take that chore off his shoulders.

In that spirit was born The "Let’s Rebuild Len Wein’s Comic Book Collection" Project. The goal is to…well, you can probably figure out the goal. Go to that page. Read about it. See what you can send. And please spread the word.

Just a quick note: the list that’s currently up at the site is only of books that Len wrote, none that he edited. We expect there will be a modified master list shortly, even if we have to compile it ourselves.

What do you do when you’re NASA and comedian Stephen Colbert wins your contest to name the new wing for the International Space Station? You name an orbital exercise machine after him.

NASA will name an orbital exercise machine after comedian Stephen Colbert.

The Combined Operational Load Bearing External Resistance Treadmill, or COLBERT, is expected to keep astronauts in shape.

With the help of a legion of fans, Colbert got the most votes in the space agency’s online poll soliciting names for Node 3, which will be called Tranquility after the Sea of Tranquility, where Apollo 11 landed on the moon.

Astronaut Sunita "Suni" Williams revealed NASA’s decision on "The Colbert Report," which aired on Comedy Central on Tuesday.

Barry Allen was rushed yesterday and couldn’t be reached for comment.

Movesto datum releasum!

The release date for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is on the move again as Warner Bros. has shifted the HP6 release date to Wednesday, July 15, 2009 from Friday, July 17. The move should please those of you who have already waited an extra 8+ months for the movie, which had originally been set to release in November 21, 2008. 

The new Wednesday release date for HP6 shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, given that Warner Bros. released Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on Wednesday, July 11, 2007.

Okay, I have a favor to ask. If you have read the book I’m shilling (selling, pimping, whatever the Hell you wanna call it), would you post a review of it up on Amazon ? I don’t care if you loved Death’s Daughter or hated it. Just post your thoughts; any and all. It would be very helpful and if I get 85 reviews going over at Amazon (not all by the same person) then I will post a video of me up on You Tube doing the Macarena.

You don’t believe? Just try me. I do a nasty Macarena.

Well, how can we not promote that?

If we get a hundred reviews, maybe we can get the book’s editor, Ginger Ginjer Buchanan, to do a Macarena too.

Oh yes. We know where to find you, Ginger Ginjer . And ve haff ways of making you dance.

(Look, it’s not like I can guarantee getting any of Amber’s co-stars from Buffy The Vampire Slayer to do it. But I can find Ginger Ginjer.)

UPDATE: But apparently, I can’t spell Ginjer. Dang spellcheckers. I forgot that Ginjer uses her own name as a proofreader test.

Last Tuesday, Warner Bros. Animation unveiled its new cartoon billboard (the first new one in 15 years) at an event hosted by Mario Lopez on the Warner Bros. Studios lot.

This is actually a pretty big deal in Hollywood politics, and signals just how important the stable of DC characters are to Warner Bros. and their future.

The event was well attended. From left to right: Sam Register (Executive Vice President, Creative Affairs, Warner Bros. Animation), Warner Bros. Television President Peter Roth, “Teen Titans” producer Glen Murakami, “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” producer James Tucker, Julie Newmar (Catwoman from original “Batman” TV series), legendary animation producer Bruce Timm, Diedrich Bader (voice of Batman in “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”) and voice director Andrea Romano.

Scarlett Johansson writes in the Huffington Post about the work involved in preparing for Iron Man 2, but in a healthy way, because she "would be absolutely mortified to discover that some 15-year-old girl in Kansas City read one of these "articles" and decided she wasn’t going to eat for a couple of weeks so she too could "crash diet" and look like Scarlett Johansson."

Since dedicating myself to getting into "superhero shape," several articles regarding my weight have been brought to my attention. Claims have been made that I’ve been on a strict workout routine regulated by co-stars, whipped into shape by trainers I’ve never met, eating sprouted grains I can’t pronounce and ultimately losing 14 pounds off my 5’3" frame. Losing 14 pounds out of necessity in order to live a healthier life is a huge victory. I’m a petite person to begin with, so the idea of my losing this amount of weight is utter lunacy. If I were to lose 14 pounds, I’d have to part with both arms. And a foot. I’m frustrated with the irresponsibility of tabloid media who sell the public ideas about what we should look like and how we should get there.

I’m someone who has always publicly advocated for a healthy body image and the idea that the media would maintain that I have lost an impossible amount of weight by some sort of "crash diet" or miracle workout is ludicrous. I believe it’s reckless and dangerous for these publications to sell the story that these are acceptable ways to looking like a "movie star." It’s great to get tips on how to lead a healthier lifestyle, but I don’t want some imaginary account of "How She Did It!" I get into and stay in shape by eating a proper diet and maintaining a healthy amount of exercise. The press should be held accountable for the false ideals they sell to their readers regarding body image — that’s the real weight of the issue.

She also notes, "There is no magic wand to wave over oneself to look good in a latex catsuit." Unless, of course, you’re drawing it.

Shout! Factory, the happy folks behind, well, lots of DVD collections (I’m fond of Greg The Bunny myself) has signed a multi-year deal with Hasbro to release DVDs of several animated properties based on the toymaker’s product lines, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Included in the deal are episodes of the 1980s animated Transformers and G.I. Joe TV series , and the direct-to-DVD animated movie My Little Pony: Twinkle Wish Adventure.  The Transformers: The Complete First Season  25th Anniversary Edition releases June 16, 2009.  For those of you about to check your calendars, that is a week before Paramount and DreamWorks release Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on June 24.

According to ICv2, Shout Factory plans to release improved versions of the episodes that were previously released on DVD by Rhino, and to complete the GI Joe run, which was only partially completed by Rhino. The episodes will have remastered video and a new stereo soundtrack created from the original audio.  Extras will include a printable script, rare PSAs, toy commercials, concept art, a limited edition Autobot magnet, and the featurette “Triplechanger:  From Toy to Comic to Screen:  The Origins of the Transformers.”

And of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t point to the wonderful comics currently coming out from IDW.
