Following up on our earlier piece, services have been announce for this Friday, March 30th, at the Plaza Jewish Community Chapel at 630 Amsterdam Ave., cross street 91st, phone number 212-769-4400. Burial will follow at the Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn.
David Honigsberg, the only science fiction and country music writing rabbi (and as such, the epitome of the sort of cross-culture we cover at ComicMix), died suddenly at his home yesterday. He was 48.
Honigsberg contributed a story, "Sambatyon", to the 1994 anthology The Ultimate Silver Surfer. He wrote other science fiction stories over the years, and contributed knowledge of Jewish religion, history, and Kaballah as a consultant to numerous science fiction writers over the years, and was instrumental in writing the first Klingon Jewish wedding ceremony in the Star Trek story, Creative Couplings. He was also active in the science fiction community, both as a speaker on panels and also presiding over numerous weddings of fans.
He is survived by his wife, Alexandra, who has our deepest sympathies. Funds are being raised for his funeral expenses here, and services information will be posted when we have it.
Imagi, the Hong Kong based animation house, has had a heck of a weekend, with TMNT opening at #1 in America.
But, as the saying goes, that was yesterday. What have they done for us today?
Wonder no further. Via IESB, we learn that Imagi’s next film project is a full length version of Gatchaman, or as we called it when we watched it on television in the 70’s, Battle of the Planets. Yes, Battle of the Planets! G-Force, five incredible young people with superpowers! And watching over them from Center Neptune, 7-Zark-7! Watching, warning against surprise attacks by alien galaxies from beyond space! G-Force! Fearless young orphans, protecting Earth’s entire galaxy! Always five, acting as one. Dedicated! Inseparable! Invincible!

Okay, it says that this is theoretically an opinion column, but really, this is all fact.
Friday night, while I was escorting a number of actresses from the annual Destinies Mystery Guest show at I-Con, we were forced to go through a crowd of LARPers to exit the building.
The smell was, shall we say, pungent. And that’s being polite. I’ve smelled better rotten meat and curdled milk. The comments between us after we could breathe again were savage.
Guys, I hate to have to say this, but clearly I must because some of you aren’t getting the message:
ATTRACTIVE WOMEN ARE LAUGHING AT YOU BECAUSE OF THE WAY YOU SMELL. FOR GOD’S SAKE, BATHE REGULARLY AND WASH YOUR LEOTARDS.

Yeah, I knew Holsten’s. A mom and pop ice cream parlor, the kind they don’t make any more, the kind where they still sell jellied candies behind glass counters and you can still get an decent egg cream with your patty melt.
She told me to get there if I had any hope of seeing the thing go down. I hung up the phone and left.
When I got there, I knew it was bad. A crowd had already formed — they’d heard shooting and came out to watch the gory mess. People are the same all over. (more…)

"Over at ComicMix, it’s been teased and speculated that co-owner Mike Gold and partners will be rolling out a “Phase 2 for the site. Given that Gold is the founder of First Comics, properties and creators associated with that line has been part of that speculation. Today Glenn Hauman pulls a tease…. Eclipse was of course the OTHER early 80s indie comics company that published many fondly remembered books like the original ZOT! and Miracleman and all that kind of stuff. Dean Mullaney was the publisher, the same Dean Mullaney who has now reappeared in comics editing comic strip reprints for IDW. Is is all a coincidence? Or a tease? Or just something to fill column space?"
Heidi, while I’m always happy to tease you and give you plenty of inches to fill holes in your column, you missed a few other possibilities why I used the word eclipse:
Quoting Tim Curry as Cardinal Richelieu: "But really, Your Majesty, why stop there. I have heard much more festive variations. I make oaths with pagan gods, seduce the queen in her own chamber, teach pigs to dance and horses to fly, and keep the moon carefully hidden within the folds of my robe. Have I forgotten anything?"
There are already plenty of hints out there in various places, all waiting for a good prowler to scout about on the internet and find the nuggets of truth in all the verbal crossfire on the internet and solve the whodunit – in fact, I’ll give you a hint and suggest you research our tech ace. And while we are on the crest of a new wave in comics and being coy is in our DNA, gents like us would never do something like that just to get a surge in traffic, and only a cynical man would say such a thing. After all, we have a particular, shall we say, image we want to present.
So just keep reading ComicMix, and all the ms. tree and twisted tales will be brought to light. And Heidi – my, you’re a psychic girl, but what you’re hoping for would take a miracle, man.

The title really says it all: IESB.net has posted 30 new images from Stardust, which as we know is adapted from the graphic novel by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess, and will be in theaters real soon now.
While filming Iron Man, director Jon Favreau is taking a bit of time to update his MySpace page. If you go there, Favreau will tell you that the first week of photography was "extremely challenging," but went off "without a hitch." He goes on to praise the efforts put forth by his cast and crew, saying "Robert Downey was definitely the right choice."
