Pro Se Productions, a leading Publisher of New Pulp, announces its latest volume today, a debut novel from a long time contributor to Pro Se’s award winning magazine line.
“Science Fiction,” Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions stated, “is definitely a cornerstone of Pulp Fiction, both Classic and New. Â It’s an area, though, that Pro Se really hasn’t gotten into until recently with some entries in our magazines. Â ‘Savior’ by Don Thomas is our first novel jumping nose first into that genre and we’re really proud of that. Â And it’s a vein of Science Fiction that’s somewhat popular lately, apocalyptic virus takes on the world and a small portion of the population rises to combat it. Â But it’s also different, too, in that Don exposes what happens when that small section of humanity becomes heroes of almost cosmic proportions in the eyes of the world and at what costs this takes place.”

UPDATE: Round 5 voting is over… Vote in the Final Four Now!
Round 5… and we’re down to the Elite 8!
Even heavier voting this time around, with the highest contestants getting nearly 12,000 votes. Voting has gotten so passionate that some folks are resorting to YouTube videos to spread the word.
In upset news, last year’s winner Erfworld got knocked out in Round 4, along with two contenders from Blind Ferret Entertainment. And with this being the deciding round to see who wins the $50 gift card from Amazon for picking the Final Four, we expect even more passionate arguing this time around.
Round 5 starts right now, and ends this Saturday night, March 31, at 11:59 PM, Eastern Daylight Time. We’re down to four contests, and none of them get easier… we hear the howls of agony in the comments threads over who to choose starting already. Go vote!

And now we’re down to the top 32!
Even heavier voting this time around, with the least voted contest getting 2800 votes, and the highest over 7500. We think we’ve knocked out most of the server problems, and thank you for your patience.
Round 3 starts right now, and ends this Saturday night at 11:59 PM, Eastern Daylight Time. We’re down to 16 contests, and it only gets tougher from here… so vote already!

UPDATE: Round 2 voting is closed! Round 3 voting is open right now!
128 webcomics are down to 64, and the battles continue!
The last round of voting was much more than we anticipated, with almost each of the contests getting more votes than last year’s final round. The server started to have problems, compounded with what we think might have been bot attacks to affect some voting. We took the weekend to try and get things right, and we think we’re ready for the next round. (And yes, we’re trying to figure out what remedy, if any, we should apply.)
Round starts right now, and ends this Wednesday at 11:59 PM, Eastern Daylight Time. We’re down to 32 contests, so go vote already!

TIPPIN’ HANCOCK’S HAT-Reviews of All Things Pulp by Tommy Hancock
FROM A WATERY GRAVE
by Guido Henkel
Published by Thunder Peak Publishing
2010
A tragic shipwreck, all hands and a horde of treasure lost a century ago off the English Coast literally returns to haunt the countryside and entice Supernatural Investigator Jason Dark and his partner Siu Lin to investigate! Â Throw in another consulting detective, a rather ominous Asian crimelord, pirate ghosts, cursed gold coins, and an invisible wall of death and you have the sixth Jason Dark Adventure from Guido Henkel-FROM A WATERY GRAVE!
The midpoint of the Dark series, this sixth novella is definitely a step up from its predecessor. Â It veers back toward the first four books from Henkel, shimmers with a bit of the same imagination, glistens with a hint of tight plotting and decent pacing. Â The most fascinating part of this story was the care Henkel gave to the doomed crew of the sunken ship, both as they died and when they returned as ghosts. Â These ‘monsters’, though there was more tragedy than terror attached to them, were wonderfully realized and intriguing, much more so than most of the human cast around them.
One of the aspects of this book, however, that was extremely laborious was the name dropping. Â Henkel had, until FROM A WATERY GRAVE, rather creatively peopled the Dark stories with hints and glimpses of famous historic and literary characters, particularly a handful associated with London’s best known Consulting Detective from the Victorian Era. Â In FROM A WATERY GRAVE, however, the subtlety that Henkel wielded so masterfully in the earlier tales is completely gone and some of the references and inclusions of famous characters are ham handed and seem to be inserted simply for effect. Â One completely makes no sense at all and adds nothing to the story. Â Â I am definitely a fan of tales that ‘cross over’ characters from other works, but I had become such a fan of Henkel’s silken approach to it in previous books that the way it was handled in this one disappointed me.
THREE OUT OF FIVE TIPS OF THE HAT- There’s a progression back toward the greatness that Dark 1-4 possessed and I truly hope later volumes return to that with gusto!
