REINAGEL EPIC NOVELLA NOW APPEARING IN PRO SE PRESENTS #3!
And Available soon from www.pulpbookstore.com
PULP ARK, the official New Pulp Convention, debuted in Batesville, Arkansas on May 13-15, 2011. Due to the initial success of the format and comments made by both guests and attendees, PULP ARK decided to offer its programming, from panels to classrooms to rather unique programming aspects, such as a live action play in the midst of the show, to other Conventions and Shows. PULP ARK announces that the first convention that will host New Pulp Traveling Con Programming is the Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention (www.memphiscfc.com) October 14-16, 2011 in Memphis, Tennessee!
This plan, according to Tommy Hancock, PULP ARK Founder and Coordinator was not restricted to Pulp themed shows. “As a matter of fact,” Hancock reports, “the original discussions that prompted this among Pulp Ark guests, many of them creators in both Pulps and Comics as well as other mediums, focused on offering this unique programming to Non Pulp Shows, like Comic and Fantasy conventions, old time radio conventions, genre specific shows, and so on. So we’re extremely excited to be a part of the Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention and so far they’re as excited as we are to have us!”
The line up for NEW PULP Programming is a stellar one. Hancock, listed as PULP GUEST OF HONOR on the con’s site states that the real talent are those who are coming with him. “Super Hero Pulp author extraordinaire Van Plexico and Author of Pulp Epics Wayne Reinagel will be there to do panels and take part in the programming. Also, Erwin K. Roberts of Planetary Stories and Pulp Spirit, among others, as well as Don Thomas, author, and Pete Cooper, artist of Pro Se Productions will be there to work their wondrous magic. This will be a weekend of panels, classrooms, plays, theater, and most of all camaraderie.”
For the schedule of New Pulp Panels as well as all the other goodness that will be at the Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention, check out the website at www.memphiscfc.com! Come out and see what NEW PULP has to do with Comics and Fantasy! You might be surprised and actually learn something!
Pro Se Productions, Publisher of New Pulp books, anthologies, and magazines, announces today that the October issue of its magazine, PRO SE PRESENTS, will be a special issue featuring the novella, THE HUNTER ISLAND ADVENTURE by well known New Pulp author Wayne Reinagel.
Never before in print, THE HUNTER ISLAND ADVENTURE features characters from Reinagel’s INFINITE HORIZONS Universe and his PULP HEROES trilogy. “Infinite Horizons,” according to Reinagel, “explores the secret lives and revealing the unrecorded adventures of the greatest heroes and villains to ever walk the Earth.
“In the worlds of Infinite Horizons, the question is explored, what if the Victorian and Pulp era adventures actually occurred in our universe. And taking into account all of the events that have happened since that time, how would this have altered the pulp heroes from the 30’s and 40’s? The answers to these questions are presented in the first trilogy of Infinite Horizons novels entitled Pulp Heroes.
PRESS RELEASE
Pro Se Productions, an up and coming leader in the New Pulp Movement and publisher of New Pulp Magazines, books, and collections, announces today a partnership with Broken Sea Audio Productions, a leading name in New Pulp Audio. Both companies have brought their impressive talents and abilities together to produce the first ever Pro Se Press Audio Magazines!
“There’s something,” says Tommy Hancock, Partner and EIC of Pro Se Productions, “about these fantastic New Pulp short stories that just screams to be expressed beyond print. When you’re reading words written by Ron Fortier, James Palmer, and Van Plexico or in the middle of a Sovereign City scene penned by Barry Reese or Derrick Ferguson or even marveling to the new talents of people like Nancy Hansen, Ken Janssens, Lee Houston, Jr., Megan Smith and more, you can hear the voices in your head. Likewise, the extremely talented crew at Broken Sea Audio Productions, led by Paul Mannering, have this fantastic art of bringing to life stories, some with characters we all know and others with brand new New Pulp creations. The actors and readers at BrokenSea breathe voice into pen and ink and make it leap off the page and into a whole new level of imagination. Because of this, the partnership of these two fantastic groups as well as the merging of the work they do is a great next step in the evolution of New Pulp.”
Hancock also says that plans for both future Audio Mags as well as Audio Books of Pro Se’s line of novels and collections are definitely in process and will be announced in the near future.
Priced at $7.50 per issue, each magazine is over 4 to 6 hours of New Pulp Audiobook entertainment. Each magazine is read by a single reader, but the readers provide various voices and show a tremendous control of emotion and tone in each story, adding to the power and pleasure of listening to each tale. This combined with the wonderful work of Broken Sea Producer Chris Barnes makes Pro Se’s line of New Pulp Audio Mags a definite must have for any fan of Action/Adventure/Heroic/Genre Fiction.

Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions and member of the New Pulp Movement announced today that the first ever tale of THE PULPTRESS, 21st Century Pulp Heroine and spokesperson for Pro Se and New Pulp, would be available for anyone interested for FREE for a period of one week.
“The Pulptress,” Hancock said in his statement, “is a concept and a figure that has already drawn much interest since her debut two weeks ago at Pulp Ark. But she’s more than that. She is just a hint at all that New Pulp has to offer any reader, from the uninitiated person to the avid, obsessed Pulp fan. There’s a vibrance, an excitement to The Pulptress that draws directly from the vibrant exciting pace and and action that New Pulp is rifled with. And to celebrate that connection as well as to put a little more New Pulp out there, we’d like to offer this first tale of The Pulptress for free to any takers for a limited time. And New Pulp fans take note-There is a special guest star in this first tale that many New Pulpsters may recognize.”
The tale, written by Hancock, is one of a collection that is being written and will be printed by Pro Se Productions when complete. Other writers currently participating in this collection include Derrick Ferguson, Robin Bailey, Ron Fortier, and Barry Reese.
In order to get your free copy, email Hancock at proseproductions@earthlink.net between now and Sunday, June 5th, 2011 and the story will be emailed to you directly.
“This is an opportunity,” Hancock pointed out, “to introduce your friends who may know nothing of New Pulp to the Movement and get others interested in the heroic fiction some of today’s best writers are producing!”

AP: That brings up a good final question. Where is home? Who are you when you hang up the mask on the hook beside your fedora? Who are you when you’re not The Pulptress?
“So many conventions,” Hancock continued, “that have or should have aspects related to New Pulp already exist. Comic conventions, old time radio and new audio drama shows, genre specific gatherings like Horror, Western, etc., the list is probably endless. Instead of adding a whole roster of NEW PULP Cons to that, Pro Se Productions now offers NEW PULP CON PROGRAMMING PACKAGES. Essentially what this means is Pro Se Productions will provide any interested convention or show with Pulp related programming. These packages will range from a single one hour session to a full blown multiday experience, including panels, classrooms, interactive theater drama, and other special events. Although this is New Pulp programming, panels and classrooms will also include sessions on classic Pulp as well because without those at the beginning, there would not be a New Pulp Movement today.”

After the final panel ended for the day, most of the stalwart band of PULP ARKers, guests and fans alike, went out for a nice, large dinner at Colton’s Steak House. The table filled with over thirty guests went from one wall of their largest room to the other. As had quickly become the norm, great fun and camaraderie was had by all.
Following that, PULP ARK continued with the presentation of the first annual PULP ARK Awards! These awards covered ten categories and had been voted on after nominations were taken late last year. Nine of the awards were voted on by anyone who made a nomination in just one of the nine categories. The Lifetime Achievement Award was chosen by a hand selected committee of ten, who each made three initial nominations, then the top three of those were voted on to determine the winner.

Following the award, the first annual PULP ARK Art Auction was held. Three artists contributed pieces-Rob Davis of Airship 27 and Pete Cooper and Dalton Carpenter of Pro Se Productions. Although the bidding was quick, there were a few heated wars amongst fans for some of the available pieces, but everyone enjoyed themselves and it must be noted 80% of the proceeds went back to the artist! This will be an event that will continue at PULP ARK!

A major announcement, or actuall revelation was made during the Awards and Auction. The mysterious masked lady that had been seen frequently since Pulp Ark started, at one point in her standard striped shirt, suspenders, skirt, and fedora and at another in a rather stylish cowgirl outfit, was on hand to give out the awards. Her identity was revealed by Tommy Hancock to be that of THE PULPTRESS! Hancock explained that this Pulp Heroine for the 21st Century would be promoting Pro Se Productions but equally as important would be the spokesmodel for the New Pulp Movement as well. The applause and pictures being snapped around the room signalled that this announcement was a positive one. The Pulptress, still shrouded in mystery, was very pleased to be a part of all the activity and vowed to promote New Pulp along with her never ending battle against Evil. You can now join The Pulptress’s page on Facebook! Just search for The Pulptress and she’ll be there!

Even though the first ever PULP ARK Creators Conference/Fan Convention didn’t officially open its doors until 12 Noon Friday, a few stalwart individuals made their appearance in the humble little burg of Batesville the night prior. Bobby Nash, writer and Conventioneer extraordinaire was the first to appear at 151 West Main Street, formerly the Batesville Grand Opera House, currently the Cinnamon Stick Restaurant and Coffee Shoppe. Not long after Bobby came Dr. Art Sippo, one half of the Book Cave Podcast duo and author of SUN KOH: HEIR OF ATLANTIS. Art actually stayed until the set up and rehearsal for…well, that’ll come in a bit…

Following set up on Thursday night and meeting up with Joe Gentile from Moonstone and Nancy Hansen, Ken Janssens, and Lee Houston Jr. from Pro Se Productions, all grew quiet until the following morning. Other faces showed up at the Comfort Suites for breakfast on Friday, including Rob Davis and Ron Fortier with Airship 27 Productions and veteran author Barry Reese and his fantastic family. Good conversation was had by all, basically the how-are-yous and get-to-knows…then it was off to the venue!

Wayne Skiver of Age of Adventure getting ready for business!
For those who did not come, even pictures won’t do much justice to how awesomely cool the building we held PULP ARK in was. Originally built in the 1880s, much of the original woodwork and such is still there, but its not a pristine glowing artifice. It’s a cool, old building with an awesome below ground room. Lovingly called ‘the dungeon’ by PULP ARKers this weekend, this room was originally the dressing rooms and props area for the Opera House and the walls are the exposed original stone. Also, the lighting is low and the air is just slightly musty, so it gave a great ‘cavern’ feel to the room, easily everyone’s favorite part of the venue.

Wayne Reinagel’s epic table for his epic tales!
Once set up was done that morning, we’d added Scott and Patrick Cranford, Scott being a writer with Age of Adventure, and Ric Croxton, the other half of the Book Cave, and unlocked and opened at 12 Noon. Although business was slow from a ‘fan’ standpoint, some selling took place between those of us that made up the ‘Pulp crowd’ as well as people curious as to just what a ‘Pulp Ark’ was. The biggest plus of the day…and of the entire weekend actually…was the opportunity to meet people most of us had never physically met before and the resulting fellowship. Not to mention the ideas…ohhh, the ideas that blossomed.

Most of our other guests and such ventured in in the late evening, including Derrick Ferguson with Pulpwork Press, Carol Fuller Samelson, Bob Kennedy, Van Plexico with White Rocket Books, Wayne Reinagel with Knightraven Studios, writer Terry Alexander, artist Pete Cooper, Pulp Dealer David White, Springfield Comics’ Ron Hamilton, and Megan Smith, writer for Pro Se Productions.

OK, so Domino Lady on the right… But who is that masked adventuress with her? hmmmm…
Also, PULP ARK had a couple of visitors on this first day, visitors of the female AND masked variety. One was very familiar to most Pulp fans in her black DOMINO mask and her LADY like dress and cape. The other, however, was a mystery for much of the convention….one that revealed its bubbly, actiony adventury self later…
The official programming began at 4:30 PM with…well, that’ll wait until the next report, now won’t it? Not long, kiddoes, not long!
