Pulp Ark 2013, the official New Pulp Creators’ Conference and Convention, created and sponsored by Pro Se Productions, a Publisher of Heroic Fiction, tales of multiple genres, and New Pulp, announced today one of its many fantastic guests already making plans to attend the third annual event in its new location, Springdale, Arkansas, April 26-28th!

“It’s a big year for us,” Tommy Hancock, Founder and Organizer of Pulp Ark stated.  “We’re moving, expanding, bringing in old friends and new favorites, so we want any and all news we have to go out as often as it can, to keep Pulp Ark in the forefront of everyone’s mind.  And this guest is definitely news.”

Crime fiction and New Pulp writer Gary Phillips has written short stories for Moonstone’s Kolchak: The Night Stalker Casebook, the Avenger Chronicles and the Green Hornet Casefiles.  His most current novel is Warlord of Willow Ridgewhich Booklist said of the work, “Phillips is a veteran crime novelist who creates a plausible postapocalyptic scenario in which the safety of middle-class America can dissolve in a moment. Exciting, violent, and entertaining.”  He has also written essays for the Robert B. Parker tribute book, In Pursuit of Spenser and for The Wire: Race, Class, and Genre, as well is the creator behind the popular detective character Nate Hollis, first seen at Vertigo and most recently in the Moonstone collection Angeltown.  Currently with Tommy Hancock and Pro Se Press, Philips is co-editing and contributing to Black Pulp, pulp stories featuring black main characters, and editing and contributing to a themed linked anthology of short stories, Night of the Insurgents, showcasing America’s super spy before Bauer and Bourne, Jimmy Christopher, Operator 5, for Moonstone. 


Phillips will be a guest at Pulp Ark 2013, participating in Panels as well as visiting with fans, interacting with other creators, and finding all the action there is to be had at Pulp Ark 2013!

Pro Se Productions, a leading publisher of Heroic and Action/Adventure Fiction as well as the Founder and organizer of Pulp Ark, a writer’s conference/convention that began in Batesville, AR in 2011 announces today the dates for the third annual event, PULP ARK 2013 as well as a change of venue.
Pulp Ark is a Writer’s Conference/Convention focused on ‘Pulp’ fiction.  Although defined narrowly by many, Pulp Ark promotes Pulp Fiction as multi genre multi medium storytelling that typically involves action, adventure, larger than life heroes and villains, and a strong focus on both plot and characterization.  “Pulp,” Hancock said, “began as a medium in which many great writers told a lot of wonderful stories and readers could pick ’em up a 100 or more pages at a time for a dime.  Although it’s no longer that necessarily, the sensibilities of Pulp storytelling, the style, the methodology, all the stuff fans have remembered and enjoyed for over 80 years about those kinds of tales, all of that is still around and available from all sorts of authors, artists, performers and companies.  That is what Pulp Ark is all about.”
“Pulp Ark 2013,” stated Tommy Hancock, Pulp Ark Organizer, “will take place in a new facility and a new town, but remains in Arkansas!  Batesville, Arkansas (the site of the first two Pulp Ark conventions) has been nothing but a positive experience for Pulp Ark and the success we’ve had there, particularly in 2012, is one of the myriad reasons we decided to make a move.  Pulp Ark 2012 cemented for us the fact that not only would we have faithful vendors and guests willing to return for another go around or two, but that we also had a concept that appealed to fans of all ages and genres and mediums.  With that, the decision was either to grow or not.   Part of the decision to grow was whether or not to stay in Batesville.  Several factors, most notably partnering with an excellent facility that truly will take Pulp Ark to another level, led us to decide that the home of Pulp Ark 2013 would be Springdale, Arkansas.”
Springdale is in Washington County located in Northwest Arkansas.  Considered part of the Fayetteville Metropolitan Area, Springdale is one town of several that are considered a piece of one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country.  With over 500,000 residents in and near Springdale, Pro Se believes that not only will this increase fan attendance and interest in the Writer’s Conference/Convention that blends every genre and medium possible together, but will also attract both the loyal guests and vendors from the first two years of Pulp Ark as well as a whole host of new participants on that side of the table.
“Pulp Ark is a wonderfully unique creature in a lot of ways,” Hancock stated.  “We definitely enjoy having that small town, almost family type feel for what we do, but we also have a truly kaleidoscopic reach with all the genres and creators that fall into our umbrella.  Prose, comics, audio, cosplay, even music, all of that and more contributes to what Pulp is.  Classic, new, and even Pulp yet to come all has a home at our convention and it was time to move Pulp Ark to a place where it…and all its wonderful supporters…could truly spread their wings.”

PRO SE TAKES THE WORLD BY STORM WITH ONLINE PROMO PARTY!

Pro Se Productions, a publishing company known for adventure, action, crime, fantasy, super heroes, New Pulp, and original stories featuring Classic characters, announces the beginning of a partnership with a new internet platform that will bring a brand new experience to Pro Se Fans, literally bringing a convention like activity into the homes of anyone wanting to find out more about Pro Se.  

On Saturday, October 13th from 1 PM CST to 7 PM CST, Pro Se Productions will be hosting an online Promotional Party spotlighting the entire company.  This event is being done in conjunction with www.shindig.com, a platform designed to host small, medium, and even massive book tours, promotional events, Q & As, or in this case, a gala event focusing on one of the up and coming Publishers of cutting Edge New Pulp fiction today.  Writers, artists, and creators associated with Pro Se will be providing readings, panels, and one on one question and answer sessions online while participants can wander in and out, just like an actual convention, and enjoy the events as they take place.   Also, fans who attend the event at any point in the day can actually enter into private chats with up to four other people and set up their own ‘rooms’ while also participating in the reading/panel/etc. that is taking place.  This allows for hundreds and hundreds of participants to be available.

“This is the ultimate con experience in a sense,” Tommy Hancock, Partner in and EIC of Pro Se Productions stated, “taken and turned into an all Pro Se event.  People can attend panels, go to readings, meet authors and creators, and do it right in front of their computer.  Pro Se is definitely excited about this opportunity, not only because its a neat thing to be able to do, but also because it’s a platform that allows us to reach out not just to our own little conclave of fans who frequent our site, see us at Conventions, and/or buy our books.  This is an opportunity to open the doors of Pro Se up to any and all who have ever read a thriller and enjoyed it, who have ventured into Space and wanted more, who sneered with the villain and celebrated with the hero of some great story. Fight Card scores another main event by bringing New Pulp maven Tommy Hancock into the Fight Card Team.  Hancock will get his shot at a Fight Card title in early 2013, adding another exciting installment to the Fight Card canon.
 
Tommy is a writer, editor, publisher, podcast host, and audio voice actor, but beyond all those things he is first and foremost a fan.  Pulp, comics, movies, TV, old time radio, and new audio drama, Hancock is steeped in all sorts of pop culture up to the brim of his fedora.

Murray noted, “With the growing interest in pulp eBooks, RadioArchives.com is simply doing what it has always done, going back to its Old Time Radio roots: Innovate. Improving the product is something Radio Archives has always striven to do. The new Total Pulp Experience eBooks means that the customer will get everything worthwhile that can be culled from a given magazine. That’s the appeal. Review of “The Thousand-Headed Man” from Doc Savage, Volume 20

As Doc Savage arrives at London’s Croydon airport, a shooting occurs. A thin white man is wounded and cries out for someone named Sen Gat. As Doc comes to his aid, the wounded man throws him a small package and asks him to keep it safe. Inside the package is a strange black waxy stick. From that point on, Doc and his men are under assault by the oriental mastermind Sen Gat and his cronies who are trying to steal that black stick. There are actually several of them and Sen Gat wants them all. The battle rages in London and the body count rises. Doc and his men meet the lovely and resourceful Lucile Copeland whose father Calvin Copeland was lost on an expedition to Indochina seeking the legendary monster known as “The Thousand-Headed Man.” Lucile believes that Sen Gat knows where her father is and that he too is seeking the “Thousand-Headed Man.” Somehow the black sticks are part of the key to this mystery.
 
Doc and his men accompany Miss Copeland on an airplane expedition to the depths of Indochina following a chain of horribly carved pagodas all leading to the mysterious lair of the Thousand Headed Man. Along the way, they encounter the scions of an ancient lost cult millennia old and its strange rustling weapon that can incapacitate or kill. At the same time Sen Gat and his band of criminals are in pursuit using the deadly weapons of modern times. Caught between the forces of Aulden and contemporary evil, can Doc Savage and his men survive let alone prevail?
 
“The Thousand-Headed Man” was originally published in July 1934. It has remained one of the perennial favorites in the Doc Savage canon. The story includes exotic locales, a wily oriental villain, lost civilizations, mysterious means of death, and a central mystery the solution of which is the denouement of the story. All the things that make up the true pulp adventure novel we all know and love are here along with the skillful writing of Lester Dent at his best.
 
It is no wonder that “The Thousand-Headed Man” had been chosen in 1966 to be the first story adapted in a series of Doc Savage movies that would have starred Chuck Connors. Mr. Connors actually went on the late night Johnny Carson show to announce the planned series. There was even a comic book from Gold-Key based on this story as a tie in to the movie. Sadly the film never came to pass. But the story was adapted into a radio play that was broadcast on NPR in the late 1980s the recording of which is currently available from Radio Archives.

I recently purchased your download editions of several shows including your set of the Mercury Theater on the Air. I was highly impressed by the quality of these shows, especially Mercury Theater as I’ve only ever heard fair to poor sounding copies of those shows. Also, one request I would love to make assuming that it’s possible, would be a collection of remastered episodes of Flash Gordon. The copies that have been available and floating around for years have been, in my opinion, barely listenable do the poor sound quality and this is a series that I think would greatly benefit from your work.
