The point, the point. Hey, hello, it's Mike Raub. Welcome to The Point, where all parts of pop culture come together. The new action thriller getaway has Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez doing most of the action inside the front seat of a car.

Now, now, now, come on, keep it clean. I'll tell you what that really means coming up. In the meantime, what about that show in practical jokers? Why doesn't somebody just punch those guys? We'll find out. Let's get to The Point.

This is The Point, The Point radio, get The Point radio. The new action thriller getaway, starring Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez, has a little bit of a difference to it. Director Courtney Solomon set it up so most of the action takes place inside a fast-moving car. I talked to Selena about how she handled that. We actually liked being in the car.

I think what was good, though, is we actually ran it a lot before we got in the car, so we could actually physically walk around and do the scene over and over again. So it kind of seemed fresh, and then we get in the car because it kind of got too much sometimes doing it over and over again. So we'd step out and do it, too, which was nice. Ethan agrees. There were a few challenges here.

What Selena was saying is true, too. It's really rare in an action movie that we could do. We would do takes of 10 pages of dialogue because, you know, we're always in the same place. It's not like we… the set, in a way, never changed. You know, we were always in this car, and the background changed, and the speed changed, and all that other stuff.

But it's rare that an action movie, you could do that kind of level of scenes. That was fun. And some drawbacks? There's something about the repetition and the constancy of the environment, you know, that actually can wear down your creativity. You know, it really is… if you're shooting a scene in this room, and then tomorrow you're shooting one in Central Park, or whatever, each day is different. But being up all night in Bulgaria, driving the same car, you know, it's difficult to maintain, to try to maintain your excitement, enthusiasm, and to navigate, all that.

But we had fun. It was pretty… the truth is, considering watching the movie, it was really simple and fun. Selena's role is that of the kid, a streetwise punk who's a little different from the way she is in real life. Well, I think it was really fun for me to pretend to know about cars and technology, because I know nothing about that. So I did actually get to learn a lot about it. As far as having one in my real life, I mean, I don't know. It's funny.

I stole, like, a chapstick when I was seven at a store. Getaway is Selena's first role as the principal female star in a movie. So was that exciting or nerve-racking? I was… yeah, I was actually nervous. But what helped was Courtney and Ethan and myself. We actually got to rehearse a lot. So he made me feel comfortable instantly. And I have, actually, sheets still of notes that he would say out loud. And I would just write them all down from what Courtney said to what Ethan would say.

And by the time we got on set, I was really comfortable. And they were great to me. So… What got Ethan involved in this project? I just thought it's very difficult to make any kind of action movie that might be unique or worth watching. And there was something so simple about the idea of making a whole movie about one car chase.

It had a simplicity to it that I thought made it unique and fun. And one that I would be interested to see. And that's usually my barometer. And it was also one that… a lot of action movies, it doesn't matter who plays the part. It really just doesn't matter who plays the part. You know, insert 50-year-old male, insert 27-year-old female. You know, it's so much about the explosions and things like that.

But in this movie, I thought that whoever the actors were would have an opportunity to make an impact on the film. And so it became more interesting to me because of that. And for Selena to come on board. I've been wanting to do different things from starting with Spring Breakers and then doing some other fun roles. And I wanted to do an action movie. So the opportunity to be able to be a tomboy that knows about all this kind of stuff

that I don't know about. I got to dye my hair black. I asked Courtney if I could dye it black. And she just gave me an opportunity to kind of be someone else. And obviously being able to work with Ethan. So a lot of fans want to know, where does all this leave her music career? Well, I'm actually on tour. So I'm in the middle of music at the moment. I constantly find myself… I'm a woman, so I change my mind all the time.

So one day I want to just do acting and just that. And then one day I just want to do music and just that. So it kind of changes, but this is my last record for a while. I'm going to tour it and then just kind of get into acting for a really long period of time, hopefully. Ethan Hawke, Selena Gomez in Getaway in theaters right now. The flight radio. Check out the latest in pop culture. A trend for the after show talk show is continuing now with Sons of Anarchy with a new show called Anarchy Afterward that will follow episodes of Sons once it premieres.

Next month on the FX Network. There are some differences here between this and Talking Dead and Talking Bad. The shows that are attached to both Walking Dead and Breaking Bad. Anarchy Afterward will not be on the regular FX Network. Instead, it'll be streamed live on the network's website and it also won't be on after every episode. The talk show will air three times after the premiere, episode five and after the season finale at the end of the year. Could there be another spawn movie? Well, according to creator, Tom McFarlane, it's going to take place and sooner than we think. McFarlane said he's been contacted to do a script by the end of the year and he feels that shooting could begin as early as 2014 with a film that would not only be shot quickly, but also would be more of a horror movie than a superhero film.

First, he was Jackie Robinson and now actor Chadwick Bosman has another autobiography on his list and that will be to portray the godfather of soul, James Brown, in a new film that will be handled by the director from The Help. The project has been around for a while. Brown himself was involved with it until his death in late 2006. The film covers Brown's life both in and out of the music industry. Ropers are that NBC is out to court both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to once again host the Golden Globes after last year's very successful gig. Unlike Ricky Gervais, the ladies did not have the option to come back again, but the NBC wants to change that and a decision should be announced sometime over the next few weeks. Lately Zarab is coming to television, well at least an updated version of it. Fox has ordered scripts for a prime time soap that is a take on the original classic.

It's done by Rob Thomas who you know of course from Veronica Mars. And the plot involves a lawyer running a legal exoneration program fighting to evade the consequences of his own unjust conviction years before. Looks like the financially strapped city of Detroit and other parts of Michigan will get a role in the movies this year. They'll be portraying parts of Gotham City and Metropolis in Superman Batman when it begins production early in 2014. The whole thing will bring about $131 million in revenue to the state and hire at least over 400 local workers. It's probably could only happen here in America. Four guys, best friends since high school who like to play pranks on each other took it to a new level by bringing it to a hidden camera reality show.

That's in Practical Jokers now in its third season on TruTV. And as you'd imagine with four guys playing around sometimes the alliances between them shift. As Brian Murray explained. Well it's hard because you can't, there's no one person doing any one thing. It's like it's kind of like like a show lost. We're like Sawyer one week is stealing everybody's guns and all the medication and then the next week he's hanging out with them. You know what I mean? It's like your alliances just have to shift within seconds. You know what I mean? It's you against the world. And the enemy of my enemy is my friend and stuff like that. I just like getting sound so that's my always my main thing. But you know.

So how do they avoid getting the public involved but not upset? I mean I think that we try really really hard to not do things on a push people off. Like we really want it to be on us not the other people. And even if you see that that family that Joe was scatting and clicking the thing. Like the husband was laughing you know. If he was angry Joe would have stopped the media. That's like our main rule. It has to be on us it can't be on the other people. So you know we're going to pull it out. If you've seen the show you know that each one ends with a punishment which are sometimes pretty outrageous.

The punishments are I don't get shocked at because they're set up and we're just slamming home. You know what I mean? There's nothing you can do about it. But all the individual bits that lead up to the punishment. I'm always shocked. Like as good as you think people are going to be the public they're they're they're surprised. It is so funny and people are so clever and witty. And it's just like I always get surprised with that. You know what I mean? And it sucks because like the nature of our show is people have to sign the beyond or else they're blaring. And we don't like putting blares on because comedies and reactions and stuff like that. So it's horrible when something goes so well and then a person's like I don't want to be on TV.

These situations was particularly hard on cast member James Murray and he explained. You know we went to high school together with the guys and I and the practical jokers. That's how we met. And we became best friends. So this punishment they took me back to our old high school when senior federal high school called the General School Assembly with 600 students and some of our teachers from 20 years ago were still there like they started their career. They're ending their career. You know our old teachers are there. They brought my ex girlfriend from high school there. And they strapped me to a lie detector test in front of the whole school and the guys wrote the questions. So like the first question was do you watch your back.

Which are my hairy Italians sat now and yes I watched my back. I just didn't want to better get it. They asked me if I had a crush on my high school Spanish teacher Miss Lonsa which I did and she was there and never told her obviously it was it was really mortifying. Brian says that most of the folks who get sucked into the show seem to take it in stride. The punishments are I don't get shocked out because this set up and we're just slamming home. You know what I mean. There's nothing you can do about it. But all the individual kids that lead up to the punishment I'm always shocked.

Really I mean again it goes back to what we're doing to them and we're good at reading people.

So we will stop if a person shows the first sign of being like annoyed we'll be like all right unless it's funny and then we'll keep going. But really it's more of a matter of like just two things that aren't going to just be like that. People like I don't want to have no interest in making people like me. Like I have an interest in making my friends really uncomfortable. Because the more uncomfortable they are the funnier the show is. And as for the guy's favorite bits well Murray had this one.

The strip high five we did a challenge we did a punishment last season where Joe and I got punishes two way punishment. The challenge is very simple. You got to stand in uni square. You were next to each other and as strangers walk by you had to try to high five them. For every person that did not high five you that rejected the high five you got to take off an article of clothing. And the punishment didn't end until one of us was naked. I had no clue how it was going to work out. We were debating it the whole time. We were like is this going to work? Is anybody going to high five us?

What's going to happen? Is it going to be boring? And it was it worked and it was terrifying and that was my bare ass on TV. Practical Jokers also is in the comic book business as well. Green Arrow. Green Lantern. Justice League. Justice League Dark.

Justice League Dark and Superman. All with special covers. And all with standard editions too. Just in case you're interested more in the story than you are the Glitz. Also from DC first issue of the new Batman Black and White series. And another interesting series DC versus Masters of the Universe. It's kind of something you dreamed about when you were 10 right?

First issue with that with a couple of different covers out this week as well. And of course Forever Evil begins as a series with the first issue of that too. From DC this week. IDW gives you a chance to catch up on the X-Files Season 10 series with a third printing of number one and number two this week. A good ending to look for from Image Comics is Love Stories to Die For.

That has a couple of different covers. And there's a new Walking Dead hardcover too this week from Image. That's number nine. Age of Ultron is collected in a hardcover from Marvel this week. And not quite up to the splice of Forever Evil but Marvel's new X-Men crossover begins with X-Men Battle of the Atom number one.
