The Point Radio Hey, I'm Mike Raub, the story of Mary, Queen of Scots, before that thing with the axe. It is rain on the CW when we talk to the cast and the creators on what that show's all about. Plus, if you like Thor, you're gonna love Netflix. And there were still blockbuster stories around? Let's get to The Point. This is The Point, The Point Radio, get The Point Radio.

It's a new look at a familiar and somewhat tragic historical figure. Rain on the CW network brings us the story of Mary, Queen of Scots, as reimagined by co-creator Laurie McCarthy. It's a fantastical reimagining of Mary, Queen of Scots. It's a sort of a blended tone of political intrigue and romance and a little historical drama and some horror elements as well. So dealing with a character that has sort of a finite conclusion, was that difficult? She dies in her 40s. I mean, so, you know, by 16th century standards, she lived actually quite a while, you know, particularly for a queen whose head was on the chopping block in many ways. I think she had a good run of it.

I asked Laurie why this character appealed to her. I felt like she was sort of a parentless child in many ways. She was crowned at six days old. She was engaged at six months old. By the time she was six years old, she'd been engaged three times and she'd been shipped off to France. So I love the notion of sort of a girl without a country whose entire life is devoted to her country. She was more or less raised in France. She had an arranged marriage that file accounts wound up being a pretty happy marriage.

And, you know, and I love to speak to that. I love that you know that it's going to end badly for her and that she marries a lot. She has terrible taste in men after her first marriage. She's drawn to the wrong guy. So that seemed great. Actress Adelaide Kane plays Mary and she told me she loves playing a period character. Yeah, I mean, it's great. It's been good fun just from like a work point of view. The cast is awesome. My sets are amazing. The costumes are great. I've been having a really great time.

There's a lot of responsibility playing an actual historical figure, but there's a little less pressure considering how much historical creative license we're taking. It's more historical fiction than anything, which is great. We are keeping some of the major historical milestones like the marriage for Francis, King Henry's eventual death. They're sending the throne. Francis' eventual death. That doesn't come on for many seasons yet, we hope. It's been really great. I did a lot of research on her as a woman and as a person, and I did a lot of research into the history because I wanted to be informed going in. But I mean, it's meeting that middle ground of her as a person, how she's written, and you know, our show run is creative vision, and then bringing my own creative vision to the character as well.

So kind of blend it all three. You got to take it with a grain of salt because I can't beat her, you know, that I'm doing the best that I can. And hopefully people enjoy it. So why did she take this role? I am half Scottish myself. I'm Scottish on both sides of my family. So that, of course, is a bit of a draw for me. I just read the pilot and I really liked it. I really related to her, to her sense of being out of place. I went through a lot of that in primary school and high school. Like if you didn't get real weird and started reading comics and really terrible skin. And I just I sort of understood her on a level that she's stronger than I ever was at her age and she's more determined.

The stakes are so high and I don't know, I just I just love that she has so much responsibility in how determined she is to do the best she can. And how she's just so kind of not moralistic, but she holds herself to a high standard and those around her as well. And at the same time, she's a very compassionate character. She's stubborn and short-tempered and impulsive and can be naive to the point of stupidity. But I like that she's flawed. She's a real person. So I know it made sense to me and I just thought I'd give it a go. Obviously, it was a big change from Adelaide's previous TV work.

It's a big change. It's a really big change. I was very nervous about it at first. I'm still very nervous about it. Me on the poster with the boys and it's a will see how it goes. I'm very aware that I'm glaringly in the spotlight for this show. And I think I'm going to stop going on the Internet because, you know, you don't go on the Internet to look for good things. You look for people to cut you down because at heart, most actors are incredibly insecure, which is tragic considering our occupation. But going from Teen Wolf to something like this, I loved my time on Teen Wolf. It's a fantastic show.

You know, Jeff's amazing. All over the class. I'm incredible to walk with. I'm still really good friends with most of them. I'm super fun and really active. I miss the jeans. I miss wearing jeans and flats. I'm not going to lie. And I do miss some of the stunt work, but it's such a completely different role. And as an actor, I want to do different things. And it's nice to be a lady for once instead of, you know, kicking the crap out of people and being thrown against walls and empathetic. And then there's dealing with those costumes. The costumes very much inform the character.

I find the costume is a very large element for me performance wise. It definitely helps me create a character in much the same way that a set and the people around me do. There are a lot of elements involved in like fully bringing a character to life. In our case, we have corsets and we wear heels and things like that because we do have a modern take on the wardrobe. Great. And the dresses are so it gives you a new awareness of yourself and how you move and how you carry yourself. The corset helps so much with like posture. It pulls you up right. And that changes how you gesture and how you walk and how you talk and how you breathe.

And yeah, just that self-awareness is really important for those costumes. Otherwise, you're going to rip out of him. You got to be careful of those skirts. You got to watch where you sit and where you step and your proximity to other people. There's a distance that you need. Otherwise, you're going to step on someone's skirts. One of the boys is going to step on my skirts. And they're so expensive and they need to they need to travel throughout the two weeks that we're shooting. So it's very interesting. I don't know how how they did it.

We're not even properly corseted as a purely kind of, I suppose, acting tools. They don't really pull us in that much. They do a little bit and it's great because they give us structure and we don't have to worry about how much we eat for lunch. Which is great. But yeah, I think I think our costuming is an integral part of building characters that we play on the show. And I'm so grateful to Meredith for the amazing way she's she's put together our costuming. Laurie told me to expect even more of the supernatural element in the series.

Yeah, it'll be a thread through the series. There's definitely an undercurrent to it. And there's mythology. And it's, you know, I'm I'm not really using the term supernatural. We may wind up being some more supernatural elements. But right now, I feel like there's the superstitions of the time lend to so much of the horror elements of the show and the end that there's, you know, the way I always describe it is that they're people believe there's a thing in the woods that demands human sacrifice. There's going to be human sacrifice, whether there's a thing in the woods that's asking for it or not.

And I think there's there's a barbarism to the times that is a nice balance to, you know, the incredibly privileged lives that these people live inside the castle. So we're leaning into both. Big news for Marvel fans on the tail end of Thor doing big box office. We finally got the details on that Netflix deal. And are you ready for this? It includes 13 episode runs of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. Plus, a four episode Defenders miniseries all will be produced by Netflix. You'll start to see them in 2015.

And there's rumors there might even be more added to this list as well sometime over the next few months. Start the casting rumors now. The new season getting a lot of buzz. So it's pretty obvious that Fox would renew American Horror Story for a fourth season. The network has ordered up another run of 13 episodes that will begin next fall on the network.

News broke this week about Blockbuster closing their final stores, which prompted a lot of people to really wonder if they even thought Blockbuster was still open in any capacity. They were. They had three hundred stores in the U.S. and a distribution center. And those will all be closed by the beginning of the new year. Pretty much ending an era over the past couple of years. A lot of the broadcast media use Twitter as a secondary source for commentary for live television episodes or movie broadcasts.

Now there's a new app that might be giving Twitter a little bit of a challenge. It's called TV Talk. And it's pretty much the same basic thing, allowing listeners to provide their own insights on television episodes. I heart radio is going to carry it as well, which gives it a big push. And if you'd like to pick up the app to see what it's like, it's available free for Apple and Android devices in your app store.

While those run burgundy ads for the Dodge Durango seem to be working, Dodge reports that they've had a 59 percent surge in auto sales for the model since the ads have been on at about seven million hits on YouTube. By the way, here's a twist. Will Ferrell did not get paid for doing those. It's all part of the promotional campaign for the movie, which opens in early December. The CW has grabbed under the DC character for development.

This time, it's our man. No word yet on exactly which incarnation of the character it will be. Some of the folks involved with the pilot will be those who did the Ironside revival for NBC as well a few months back. And if the project gets going, it'll be the third DC Bay show on the CW with Arrow running its second season right now. And of course, the proposed Flash series, which will be spinning out of Arrow sometime over the next few weeks.

In addition, today's a future pass. It looks like Hugh Jackman is not done with the Wolverine. There will be another Wolverine movie, at least that's what Fox hopes so. They're in negotiations right now with James Mangold to direct the project. He did the last movie as well, which, as you know, did not do that great here in the US, but had tremendous box office success overseas and low production costs, too.

By the way, the movie overall made about 400 million dollars worldwide. That's it for right now, but in the days to come, we go behind the scenes for the NBC series Revolution.
