the point radio is Mike Raub. We kick off year number seven with more of Janet Barney, especially on what makes her podcast work and why you're the worst was
one of the most successful sitcoms of the past year. Plus actor Jason Schwartzman talks about life in the showbiz family and his newest project on
Amazon called Mozart is a jungle. Let's get to the point. Radio is the biggest success of the past year for actors. Janet Barney has
been her weekly podcast. The JV Club. We talked about the vibe cast, what's made it grow so over the past year and more importantly, what the one factor
is that she feels attributes to success. What makes me comfortable and I think what makes me comfortable is being in a kind of a comfortable
environment. You know, I never set out to go and sit in a studio with headphones on and a screen and a mic. I really wanted to get the best sound I
could and still be able to just like go over someone's house. I mean, I think that's where we're all because when you go, when I go anyway to do podcasts and
that's and it's great, you know, never not funny. I don't go there to talk about my feelings. I go there to make Jimmy laugh because there's nothing better
than making Jimmy Pardo laugh. Um, and, and I'm, I'm, and I'm on and I'm performing and what I'm, what I was interested in with the podcast was take that
off, just be a person. And, and, and I think that's another reason that the format works so well is that when you start talking about your teen years, I
think you give yourself permission to be more honest than if you're talking about the feelings that you're having in this moment. Janet is also part
of the cast of the FX comedy You're the Worst. Another sitcom with characters that are more than just a little flawed. I asked her if this new trend for
what we've called the anti friends is something that she sees growing in TV. That's a great question. I think there's, I think that you're right that
there's something and I don't know the answer to this. I almost wish that I were like a sociology professor because I, I feel like there's something
happening that is probably more evident to someone. It really takes the time out to study it. Um, that there is this sort of, it doesn't mean that you can't
go back and watch old episodes of friends and feel like they're warm and wonderful and silly and great. But I do think that something has happened or is
happening where right now people are not as interested in a live studio audience or, you know, a laugh track, although there are shows that do, I mean, you know,
Big Bang Theory is the bigger show in the world. Um, but I think for sort of alt comedy people, um, who do get drawn to that kind of edgy stuff, there is
this kind of interest in, you know, show me people who are as messed up as I feel like I am. And let me just get in their world and enjoy that and sort of
be embarrassed about the same stuff that happens to me. It's happening to them. You can hear Janet plenty in the episodes of Legend of Korra that are pretty
easy to find online right now. She'll also be part of the F.S. Sketch Fest, which takes place January 22nd to February 8th. Get information on that at F.S.
Sketch Fest dot com. And of course there's the JV Club, which you can pick up on Nerdist or find more at JanetVarnie dot com. 2014, not the one away
quietly. Here's the latest in pop culture. One of the end of the year list we look the most forward to is the top 10 most pirated shows over the past 12
months. And this year it includes some familiar names and a few new ones as well. The top 10 list includes things like Suits, South Park, Vikings,
Grey's Anatomy, Arrow and more. Gotham debuted at number five for its first year. At the top of the list, well, the number three most pirated show, Big
Bang Theory. Walking Dead moves up from number three last year to number two this year. And still at the top is a show that was downloaded the most over the
past 12 months is Game of Thrones. Meanwhile, when we move over to the list of the top 10 most pirated films of the year, all the familiar names are there,
including X-Men Days of Future Past, Thor Dark World, and Captain America Winter Soldier. In the top five, it includes The Hobbit Desolation of Smog at
number five. Down from last year's Unexpected Journey, which was the number one most pirated movie in 2013. Also in the top three, RoboCop, Frozen at number
two, and the most pirated movie of the year is Wolf of Wall Street. One of the biggest stories over the holiday, of course, was the wave of
disappointment felt by a number of people who may have got Xboxes or Playstations for the holiday, ended up not being able to get online due to a hacking
situation with both the PlayStation and the Xbox Live network. It was allegedly credited to a group called the Lizard Squad who came forth
yesterday with a representative who said they did it to prove that these particular companies are not safe from hacking, and they need to spend some of their,
in their words, massive profits toward getting better security systems for both networks. Despite the fact that no one has seen the first season yet,
Thunderbirds are go or getting a second season. That was announced with a teaser clip that was put over the internet the past few days. Again, right now the first
season has not debuted. In fact, there are still no plans for any source in the U.S. to carry the show at this time. Keep in mind the term, Altered States, it's a
new line of titles from Dynamite Entertainment. It takes some of their more popular characters and put them in different situations, alternate
realities, if you will. There'll be four one shots to begin the process, and they include Red Sonya, Vamporella, The Shadow, and Doc Savage. And they'll all
premiere from Dynamite with one shot issues in comic stores in March. So when people go to their on-demand channel on their cable system, what are they demanding?
Well, the guys at Comcast have released a list of some of the most viewed series on their on-demand system. And the top five include The Walking Dead,
Modern Family, True Blood, Big Bang Theory, and The Game of Thrones. Also, according to Comcast, the biggest Christmas !

The best Christmas! The best Christmas! The more I read it, the more it just seemed like this is something that would be fun to watch and actually for years I would just tell people I wish there was a show about classical music.
I wish there was a show about classical music because it would be really fun. People would like it. And I just never thought I could be the one that could maybe try to make it. And it wasn't until recently when my cousin Roman and I got together and he was like, we can do it.
And I was like, Roman, you don't have any experience in television and I don't know watch any television like this is a terrible team. And he's like, that's why we should do it. So that was began the journey. Jason also appears in Mozart in the Jungle which is streaming right now on Amazon Prime.
And you can also catch him in Big Eyes in theaters right now as well. That does it for the podcast and for 2014 for us, Hard to Believe. We're already into year number seven and part of that is due in credit of course to great friends at ComicMix.com like Mike Gold and Glenn Hauman, our friends at michaeldavisworld.com including Todiana, David and of course Michael himself and so many others along the way
of help make this thing work week after week. Once the holiday is gone, we'll start the new year back with our regular twice a week schedule and of course in all the usual places like ComicMix.com, michaeldavisworld.com, give the point at radio.com and of course at the iTunes podcast directory. For social media you find us at The Point Radio on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
Have a safe and happy new year and we'll see you right back here in just a few days.
