The Point Radio. Hey, it's Mike Raub. Have you got caught up in The Heroes Reborn yet? Well, if not, some of the cast is here to talk about just why you should be watching. And it's been 25 years on TV for Jerry Springer.
We'll blow out the candles on the birthday cake and find out exactly what he has planned for the future coming up. Let's get to The Point. This is The Point. The Point Radio.
Get The Point Radio. The title of the show says it all. Heroes Reborn brings back the NBC series of half a decade ago with a lot of familiar faces and some new ones, including Gatlin Green. I play Emily and she is the sweet girl next door who gets mixed in some rollercoaster
craziness. So she meets Tommy at school, played by Robbie Kaye. And they just kind of, they immediately have some sort of connection and she's like wants to help him along with, because she knows he has a secret. And so they're kind of going around through that together.
And so there's some weight that you have to carry around when you have a secret and she gets involved in all of that. And she's kind of the moral support and she gets, like I said, she gets involved in some chaos. So she has some possible pig buttery that happens to him.
Cancellation to rebirth. For the returning characters, it's been an interesting ride. Actor Greg Grundberg walks us between then and now. I'll tell you what happened. I was at a hotel with my wife and I'm like, she goes, what's going to happen with the
show? This is before we got taken off, right? And we're sitting there and I go, oh, no, it's going to be, I don't know, we'll see. We've got another year, we'll wrap it up this year, whatever. Tim calls and he goes, all right, so it's not going to be another year.
Probably be not 13 episodes. We do that. Okay. 10 minutes later, not a joke. All right, so it's going to be six episodes.
We'll do six and then we'll do that, right? Get another call. Three. I think we're going to wrap it up in three. I'm like, Tim, are you kidding me?
Don't call back. This will be the last. And then a friend of mine from DC, I told you this, calls and says, dude, I'm so sorry. I was like, what are you talking about? He's not in the business at all.
But everybody is so, you know, can find out information or whatever. And that's how I found out. So he can say all he wants. The rug was pulled out from under us. And yet that rug is magical and came back and found us.
And now we're on another journey together. And I think creatively, it was a good thing that we didn't wrap up the story because Tim was able creatively to just pick up where we left off and say, OK, what happens five years later? Everybody knows that there are these evos, these long evos now and heroes out there.
And then we get blamed for something that we didn't do. And we basically get hunted. So it's cool. And my character is doing something you never would expect him to do. And he's in a place that hopefully they'll justify why he's doing what he's doing over
the next few episodes. Along with Greg, Jack Coleman also returns to the series and he told us that, well, this is not the original show. It's a very different world. It's not people discover.
It's not Matt Parkland going, oh, my God, I'm hearing people's thoughts. What's going on? He can now not only hear people's thoughts, but he can implant thoughts and make them do certain things and trap them in their own nightmares. So many people's powers have evolved.
The cat is out of the bag, but it's a much more dangerous, paranoid world for those people who have abilities than it was when we first discovered Matt Parkland doing this. And then he's a sort of a player fixing to hurt shoulder or Peter Levitating. And your character, I would say, HRG is not as cut and dry, even though you're always sympathetic yet surprisingly working for the bad guys.
So I was the face of evil for the first four episodes. For the first four episodes, yes. But then all of a sudden it was like, wait a minute, the face of evil that I want to hug. Well, you know what's interesting, and it's actually really true in life, is that proximity
to somebody with abilities or to somebody who is a minority of some kind tends to open your heart and open your mind. And living with Claire and loving his daughter, Claire, has done that to him. And he's just not, he doesn't look at it from a clinical company first perspective. He's much more affected by her life and her feelings and opened his mind to the whole
other world. Another new addition to the cast is Dylan Bruce, who is pretty close mouthed about his part. What I can tell you, I'm having so much fun. I live in a lot of places each and every day.
And I've never been able to do the kind of stuff I'm doing on Heroes of Dawn on any other show that I've ever been on. And I've been on Arrow or from Black, two similar genre shows, but this is just on a whole new level. It's insane.
It's going to be really cool. And it's aesthetically beautiful. And the direction that they're going with the show is great. The writing is really good. And I'm going to be able to do it in a different way.
And I'm going to be able to do it in a different way. And I'm going to be able to do it in a different way. And I'm going to be able to do it in a different way. And I'm going to be able to do it in a different way. And I'm going to be able to do it in a different way.

The new series, which of course is written by Warren Ellis, debuts in comic stores in November, just a couple of days before the new Bond film, Spectre opens in theaters. It may not have taken place in a coffee shop in a galaxy far, far away, but actually it's going to happen right here for us.

And it's going to be a very special show for the movie. And it's going to be a very special show for the movie. And it's going to be a very special show for the movie. So we sat down to reminisce a little bit. And I asked him if he had any idea in the beginning where all this was going to go.
Oh, no idea at all. In fact, it wasn't even my full-time job. I was anchoring the news at the time. And this would just be a side activity. And in fact, my first contract was only for six weeks.
So we've had a few extensions and renewal since. But, yeah, no, I had no idea. And I still can't explain it. So what has made this work? I mean, the show's just so silly.
It's got a niche. And I guess the niche is so outrageous that nobody follows it. So it's kind of like we've got the market to ourselves. And I think that's probably right. I think it's the personality of the guests that come on the show.
It's so outrageous that it's hard not to watch. No one's watching the show because of me. They're watching because of the activities on the show. And as I said, the personality of the guests. And it seems to work.
But I can't really tell you other than that why. I'm just happy it does. I mean, I don't do anything. I mean, all I do is say, you did what? Come on out.
We'll be right back. And if you can do those three lines, you can be a talk show host. So television's definitely changed over the past two and a half decades. And I was curious as to whether Jerry's show had evolved with TV or had TV evolved around Jerry's show. I think it probably was the perfect storm or the imperfect storm.
We came around at a time when American television was primarily, if not exclusively, upper middle class white. And everything you saw on television reflected that segment of our society. Even if you look at the sitcoms, it was Seinfeld, Frasier, Friends, all these well scrubbed, looking upper middle income white people. And all of a sudden, our show came along. And suddenly, the people on it weren't necessarily white or weren't necessarily wealthy.
And they didn't speak the Queen's English. And it has always been a part of society, but we never saw it on television. If you were a minority, you were designated to some side network, or you had to be a doctor living in the suburbs like Cosby. So our show showed a different side of life. And I think that was the initial shock value.
But today, with technology, with the internet, with Facebook, with Twitter, what do you see on our show that the kids aren't showing on their own Facebook accounts? Every single day. That's much more salacious. So I don't think our show is shocking anymore. As if a daily talk show wasn't enough, Jerry's been involved with some other projects as well, including the series Tabloid and something new he just started.
For Tabloid? Well, I've taped the ones that, you know, I've already taped them. And it's about, you know, that show we show some of the most well-known or crazy crimes that have been committed over the last 30 years or so. And we delve into the backstories of them. But I'm also doing, I do the live tour of The Price is Right.
And casinos and theaters around the country. So I'm on the road with that pretty much at the time. And I also now have a new podcast. And you get the podcast, you can get it on iTunes or whatever. You just go to Jerry Springer dot com.
Jerry Springer dot com and hit podcast. It's a half-hour weekly podcast where we call it Tales, Tunes, and Tom Fluhrie. You know, we tell jokes and stories and we play music. But the music we play is original music because it's done live at a folk music coffee shop. People bring in their guitars, their banjos, their fiddles, and they come up from the cold minds of Kentucky from Appalachia and they play their music about their lives.
And then a little bit of it is political. I do a little bit of a political rant in the middle of the show. And I do that live every Tuesday night from Ludlow, Kentucky. And that's a lot of fun to do. And it lets me air my political views and also listen to some great music.
He also began a partnership with the WWE this season and he hopes that'll continue. It could be. I enjoy doing that. We've got the same audience, frankly. The demographics of our audience are pretty similar to the demographics of the WWE.
And, you know, the same stuff happens in our show except the fighters aren't that good. So over the years, any one particular episode that remains his favorite? Well, it's all stupid. But, well, I guess one that is memorable, even though it's not necessarily representative of our show, is the guy who married his horse. But you'll be happy to know I came out against it.
And we did a follow-up show because the horse left it. Wow. Yeah, and we always run that show around the time of the Kentucky Derby because we like to get horse lovers to watch our show. The Jerry Springer Show airs daily around the country to find out how you can see it in your area, check your local listings. And don't forget Jerry's new podcast available right now on iTunes.
